Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes.

Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Over-the-Hub Rotor

Kodiak's slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub. It is most often wheel bolt piloted for a loose fit and then held in place by the wheel itself. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.

Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

You folks are awesome on both sides of the house. I got my order and the packaging is the only drawback. Something of this weight really should be shipped in something stronger than a cardboard box.i was missing some pieces of the kits that was handled really nicely by your people on the returns side but boxes are demolished. They sending me a new kit so I can return the kit missing pieces. But I am not disappointed in the product.Keep up the wonderful people you have there.

Installed the K2HR12A11-120DW Kodiak Disc Brake kit 11.35" Rotor-#120 Spindle -12k-ALKO. The kit seems to be really good quality and easy to install, it was installed on a 2011 model PJ trailer and everything fit as it should and the brakes bleed easily also we uploaded pictures of the install. Thanks also to customer service they were really nice and easy to talk with to resolve the shipping issue that we had.

After contradicting information from the trailer manufacturers tag on the trailer, and alot of leg work by the staff at etrailer, we nailed down what was needed, it arrived and assembled the way it should. Thank you Quinn and team!

The part for my Pj Trailer was the right parts. I'm very happy with the Merchandise..

For your AL KO 12k dual wheel axle the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 11.35" Rotor - #120 Spindle - 12K - ALKO # K2HR12A11-120DW that you referenced is correct and comes with everything needed to convert to a disc setup. There isn't a slip on style rotor setup that would convert your current hubs to disc though so this would be only option. • Is a New Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Required When Converting from Drum to Disc Brakes
Yes you will need a new electric over hydraulic actuator to go from drum to disc as the disc brake setups require a higher psi rating. The best option is the HydraStar part # HBA16 as it has the best reputation for reliability and is the fastest reacting as well so it's what we recommend the highest. Since you are going to disc brakes you'll need a flexible line to go from the caliper to the axle since the caliper moves. For that you'd want the part # # T0776500 .

The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 11.35" Rotor - #120 Spindle - 12K - ALKO # K2HR12A11-120DW can indeed be used with 16" wheels. Due to the diameter of the rotor and size of the calipers, this is the smallest wheel they will be able to be used with.
