LED tester lets you easily check the battery's charge. Built-in charger pulls just enough power from your vehicle when your trailer is hooked up to make sure your breakaway battery stays charged and ready to go in case a disconnect ever occurs.

Features:

  • Makes sure your trailer safely stops if it ever separates from your vehicle
    • Activates your trailer's electric brakes if the trailer disconnects from the tow vehicle
  • Automatically charges battery with the built-in charger when connected to your vehicle
    • Won't overcharge your battery
  • Lets you test battery status with the push of a button
  • Mounts on the outside of your trailer's frame
    • Side-loading case allows easy access to the battery
    • Switch installs on your trailer's frame with self-tapping screws (sold separately)
  • Protects battery from rain and debris with durable, plastic case
    • Lid can be secured with padlock (sold separately) to deter battery theft
    • Wiring diagram is printed on the battery box lid
    • Rubber O-ring in the lid helps keep water out of the box
    • Drain holes in the bottom of the box help with venting and letting condensation drain
  • Kit includes breakaway switch, charger, 5-amp-hour battery, battery box, wiring, and wire loom

Specs:

  • Application: single-axle or tandem-axle trailers with electric braking systems
  • Breakaway cable length: 4'
  • Charger amperage: 1 amp
  • Battery:
    • Voltage: 12V
    • Type: Lead-acid
    • Capacity: 5 amp-hours
  • Battery box dimensions: 3-3/4" long x 6" wide x 5" tall
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Note: A breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a GTW of at least 3,000 lbs.

The integrated charger keeps the included battery charged and ready to go. At any time, if you would like to see what the state of the rechargeable battery is, just push the green button and LEDs will light up to indicate the battery's status. If it's green, it means the battery is fully charged. Yellow shows it's currently charging, and red indicates a low battery.

Quick Tips:

  • When you store your trailer, be sure to keep the pin plugged into the breakaway switch. If the pin's removed for an extended period of time, dirt and moisture can get into the switch and cause corrosion that could keep it from activating when you need it.
  • A breakaway system needs to be able to apply the trailer brakes fully for at least 15 minutes. In general, the heavier your trailer, the higher amperage battery you'll need for the breakaway.

  • What Light Shows up on Bright Way Breakaway Kit # 3802346
Hey David, when the battery of the Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger # 3802346 is fully charged the green light on the display actually lights up. It's the light that says "fully charged".

  • Troubleshooting Door of Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit Not Able to Fully Open
The front cover of the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346 is supposed to swing out like you mentioned. I attached pictures that show the door open. I'd be willing to bet the hinge on the left side of the door isn't fully seated which is causing the issue. Check to see if you can pop the hinge back onto the posts of the section of the hinge that is attached to the housing. I also attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to a Magic Tilt TALS 2244 Trailer
Hey Jeff, thanks for reaching out! From the information you gave me, I'm pretty sure you have 3.5K axles on your trailer so you'll need the following: - etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-35-SA (1 set per axle) - Galvanized Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-G-K (2 per axle) - Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # ET7WK - Breakaway Battery Kit # 3802346 - 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 (to run from the coupler and connect the brake assemblies together) - Heat...

  • Parts Needed To Install 5 On 5-1/2" Bolt Pattern Hubs On a 1987 M105A2 Trailer
To be able to run the same 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern for your Jeep Wrangler on the M105A2 trailer you are going to have to cut off your current spindles to have 2 Spindles # TRU77FR installed. This is the common size spindle found on a 3,500lb axle which will then let you install 2 of the Hub/Drums # AKHD-555-35-EZ-K. With these you will want to install Electric Brakes # 23-468-469 since they are much better on an Overlanding trailer than surge type brakes. We do have a Junction Box # 3430001-JBK...

  • Recommended Breakaway Battery Kit With Charger For A 3" Tall Trailer Tongue
Hey Jared, The Hopkins Engager Trailer Breakaway Kit w/Charger # 20099 has a small enough mounting pattern to fit your 3" tall trailer tongue. The mounting holes are spaced 1-1/2" center to center vertically and 5-1/2" center to center horizontally. There's six mounting holes but using four would be enough to secure it to the tongue. Some self-tapping screws would easily drill into the frame and hold the box, but be careful not to overtighten your screws as all of this breakaway batteries...

  • Looking For A Parts List Needed To Add Electric Brakes To My 6 x 12 Cargo Trailer
Hey Julian, We do not have a full kit with everything needed all together but we do have the parts individually. For brakes I recommend the etrailer self adjusting brake kit # AKEBRK-35-SA. This comes as both a left and right hand so all that you need for one axle. The assemblies come pre assembled so all you need to do is slide them on and bolt them down. When adding brakes you will need to get a hub and drum assembly as well. For that I will need to know what your bolt pattern is on...

  • Recommended Brake Hubs, Assemblies, and Breakaway Kit for a Trailer w/ 6,000 lbs Axles
Hey Chuck, I sure can and thanks for the information! For replacement hubs, you'll need the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly item # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K if you have EZ lube axles or item # AKHD-655-6-K if you have standard axles without a grease zerk behind the dust cap. They are sold individually. These hubs fit spindles with inner bearing item # 25580 and outer bearing item # 15123. It wouldn't hurt to confirm the part numbers off of the bearings in your current hubs. 6,000 lbs axles...

  • Breakaway Kit With Solar Charger for Utility Trailer
Hey Scott! Breakaway systems are fairly basic but I would stick with one that at least has a tester on it so you can make sure it is ready to go. The Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger, LED Tester, and 5 Ah Battery # 3802346 is a good option for the tandem axle trailer you're building. None of them come with a solar charger but you can add a simple little charger like the # PTW2997 to keep it topped off. I see your 2nd question (sorry for the delay we are a bit behind right...

  • Parts Needed To Add Electric Drum Brakes To My Boat Trailer
Hey Brian, For electric brakes on your trailer I recommend the etrailer Electric Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA. This comes as a kit for 1 axle with both assemblies ready to slide onto your axle. those pair well with the Galvanized hub and drum assemblies # AKHD-655-6-G-K. These come with all necessary bearings, races and seals and the galvanized finish is great for marine applications. A good breakaway kit option I recommend is the Bright Way # 3802346 which comes as a full kit with the battery...

  • Parts Needed To Add Brakes To A 2023 Homesteader 6' x 12' Enclosed Trailer
Hey Dillon, The part number you gave me unfortunately doesn't come back to anything I can look up but I can still list out what you'd need to add brakes to your trailer. The first thing you'll want to check is if your axles have a brake mounting flange for the assemblies to bolt to. If it doesn't have one you'll need to either have one welded to each spindle or have the axles replaced. Because these require a specific jig to weld onto the axle it's typically more expensive to weld on...

  • Which Wire is 12V Power on Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger
Hi Noah; the blue wire on the # 3802346 is actually for the switch. The red wire is the 12V power marked (+) Truck Battery on the wiring diagram below. As long as you don't have some kind of large power draw or use the light for a long period of time that should be fine. The battery has a 5 Ah capacity which isn't a lot but will be enough for a small LED strip. I would find out the details of the LED light and how much power it draws so you know just how long you can run it on the battery....

  • What Voltage Will Show on a 12v Battery As It Is Being Charged?
You're not wrong Stubbie. A 12v battery charging will show somewhere around 12.5 volts. If you're only getting 4 volts off of your breakaway battery you most likely need a new one. You can replace yours with the item # 3802346 kit. For now, I recommend charging it with your current one with your Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger item # 20011 and seeing if it gets back up to 12.7 volts. Is your trailer battery connected to your breakaway battery? If so when you reconnect the Trailer...

The 5.2K to 7K etrailer Rust-Resistant Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-7-D are an excellent kit if that's the weight capacity you're needing, and you'll need the following parts to complete an electric brake setup: - 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 - Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 - Breakaway Kit # 3802346 - Junction Box Kit # ET7WK (if you don't...

  • Parts Needed To Add Brakes To 2033 Coastline Aluminum Boat Trailer
Hello Ron, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly help point you in the right direction. There are two routes we can go here. We can set you up with electric brakes. These are more cost effective, but not as durable for boat trailer applications since electricity and water do not mix well. We can also do a hydraulic brake setup. This would be more expensive, but will be much more durable and better suited for marine use. Do you have a preference for the brake type? For starters...

  • Can You Disconnect Alarm on Bright Way BW94FR
Hey Mark, There is not a way to manually disconnect the alarm function from the # BW94FR breakaway, as it is a feature of the unit. I sure can Rodney. The Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles item # 7359765 you were looking at would be a great place to start. This is a 3,500 lbs axle that is 95" long. The 95" is hub face to hub face so the inside edge of your wheels will sit at that measurement. Hello John. Yes, it sounds like the bearing kit for the the 3500 pound axles and the 3700 pound axles are the same. The 3500 pound axles typically use an outer bearing of L44649 with I.D. of 1.063" (1 1/16"), and and inner bearing L68149 with I.D. of 1.378" (1 3/8"), so if those are the bearing sizes you are pulling out of your current hubs then this set up will work great for you.
