LED tester lets you easily check the battery's charge. Built-in charger pulls just enough power from your vehicle when your trailer is hooked up to make sure your breakaway battery stays charged and ready to go in case a disconnect ever occurs.

Features:

  • Makes sure your trailer safely stops if it ever separates from your vehicle
    • Activates your trailer's electric brakes if the trailer disconnects from the tow vehicle
  • Automatically charges battery with the built-in charger when connected to your vehicle
    • Won't overcharge your battery
  • Lets you test battery status with the push of a button
  • Mounts on the outside of your trailer's frame
    • Side-loading case allows easy access to the battery
    • Switch installs on your trailer's frame with self-tapping screws (sold separately)
  • Protects battery from rain and debris with durable, plastic case
    • Lid can be secured with padlock (sold separately) to deter battery theft
    • Wiring diagram is printed on the battery box lid
    • Rubber O-ring in the lid helps keep water out of the box
    • Drain holes in the bottom of the box help with venting and letting condensation drain
  • Kit includes breakaway switch, charger, 5-amp-hour battery, battery box, wiring, and wire loom

Specs:

  • Application: single-axle or tandem-axle trailers with electric braking systems
  • Breakaway cable length: 4'
  • Charger amperage: 1 amp
  • Battery:
    • Voltage: 12V
    • Type: Lead-acid
    • Capacity: 5 amp-hours
  • Battery box dimensions: 3-3/4" long x 6" wide x 5" tall
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Note: A breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a GTW of at least 3,000 lbs.

The integrated charger keeps the included battery charged and ready to go. At any time, if you would like to see what the state of the rechargeable battery is, just push the green button and LEDs will light up to indicate the battery's status. If it's green, it means the battery is fully charged. Yellow shows it's currently charging, and red indicates a low battery.

Quick Tips:

  • When you store your trailer, be sure to keep the pin plugged into the breakaway switch. If the pin's removed for an extended period of time, dirt and moisture can get into the switch and cause corrosion that could keep it from activating when you need it.
  • A breakaway system needs to be able to apply the trailer brakes fully for at least 15 minutes. In general, the heavier your trailer, the higher amperage battery you'll need for the breakaway.

Quality product and easy installation.

by:

Came fast very easy to install works great. Buy this its nice set up.

by:

Just installed the trailer brake emergency battery and break-away switch. Straightforward and simple. Brake electrical system working properly. Simple install, but understand the battery box has to be mounted to something upright with wire clearance underneath. I made a couple of simple L brackets from aluminum stock leaving about 1/2" of clearance.

The products look exceptional and I’m looking forward to the upgrades to my trailer.

by:

Top notch as always

by:

Quick delivery

by:

etrailer as always delivers on time!!!!

by:

Only complaint with front opening kit: when you open the door to access the battery, it pulls any blue/white/red wires that runs through he corrugated exterior tubing with it. Meaning you will need to plan for the subtraction of the wires when making exterior connections to Rv box.

by:

Better Quality than expected!

by:

Cables are bit short

by:

Excellent costumers service,I definitely recommend etrailer company for your trailer accessories and more

by:

Easy to mount and wire up.

by:

by:

It sat thru our Minnesota winter and the battery was just fine this spring. Hooked on and it performed like new.

by:

Works well and installs easily. This same model came installed on a new trailer and the cover over the test button disintegrated after about 3 years. This let water into the circuit board. Hopefully the latest production of these will last longer.

by:

its fine had some rough shipping one of the mounting trans was broke off but was able to epoxy back on.

by:

Alex T nailed it... Perfect match for my single axle travel trailer. Easy to install works like a champ.

by:

Looks like a nice unit and definitely an improvement over my 1984 Teshonka unit that does not have a charger. Haven't installed it yet, still working on other brake parts but will add the review when in operation. Shipping was fast and price reasonable - thanks!

So far Ive made 2 round trips with my rebuilt trailer and the Bright Way Breakaway Kit is doing great. Ive never had the trailer become separated from my E450, but Im sure the Kit would operate as it should. I installed it inside the triangular area of the trailer tongue, next to the wiring harness junction box and am very pleased by the quality. The battery gets charged as needed through the hot wire of the Fords harness. Very nice product and highly recommended! Just dont know how to add a photo....

by:

Good price and fast shipping.

by:

Super easy to hook up. Nice long wires works right away fast shipping.

by:

The customer service is the best I have seen in a very long time!! A breath of fresh air!! I did receive my order in great time!!

by:

The battery was dead straight out of the box

by:

Great product! It was exactly what I ordered and exactly what I needed. Thank u etrailer

  • Troubleshooting Door of Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit Not Able to Fully Open
The front cover of the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346 is supposed to swing out like you mentioned. I attached pictures that show the door open. I'd be willing to bet the hinge on the left side of the door isn't fully seated which is causing the issue. Check to see if you can pop the hinge back onto the posts of the section of the hinge that is attached to the housing. I also attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Replacement Breakaway Switch for a Airstream Trailer
Hey Edward, welcome back! To replace the Bragman/Conntek 12VDC Break-away switch that came with your 2019 Airstream Serenity 30, I recommend the Replacement Breakaway Switch item # 3802348. The Replacement Breakaway Switch item # 3802348 has the same wiring configuration so it's going to splice right in to your trailer's electrical system where your old one currently is. It's got an identical mounting bracket too so it'll be a pretty easy swap out. If you need the full battery pack,...

  • Which Wire is 12V Power on Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger
Hi Noah; the blue wire on the # 3802346 is actually for the switch. The red wire is the 12V power marked (+) Truck Battery on the wiring diagram below. As long as you don't have some kind of large power draw or use the light for a long period of time that should be fine. The battery has a 5 Ah capacity which isn't a lot but will be enough for a small LED strip. I would find out the details of the LED light and how much power it draws so you know just how long you can run it on the battery....

Hey Jared, The Hopkins Engager Trailer Breakaway Kit w/Charger # 20099 has a small enough mounting pattern to fit your 3" tall trailer tongue. The mounting holes are spaced 1-1/2" center to center vertically and 5-1/2" center to center horizontally. There's six mounting holes but using four would be enough to secure it to the tongue. The Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger, LED Tester, and 5 Ah Battery # 3802346 is a good option for the tandem axle trailer you're building. To be able to run the same 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern for your Jeep Wrangler on the M105A2 trailer you are going to have to cut off your current spindles to have 2 Spindles # TRU77FR installed.
