Parts Needed to Add Brakes to a 3.5K Single Axle Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/11/2025

Question:

I have a single axle v-nose I am planning to add brakes to. It has a Dexter 3.5k axle Dex1387518. Mounting plates for brakes are there. 5 on 4.5 205/75/15 wheels/tires. If I want the nev-r-adjust brakes, what hubs go with it?

Hey Michael, thanks for reaching out!

The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-468-469 are an excellent choice, and will pair nicely with the Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ. This hub and drum comes pre-greased to it's less you have to do during the installation as well.

Since you're adding brakes to this trailer for the first time, you'll also need the Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346 as well as 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1, Butt Connectors # DW05745-10, and a Junction Box # e99011 (if you don't already have a 7-Way).

What made you want to add brakes to your trailer?

Hey Michael, how did everything go adding the Nev-R-Adjust brakes and hub and drum assembly to your trailer? Your setup sounds solid for that Dexter axle. Sharing how it turned out could help others planning the same upgrade.
