Question:
Hi I am building a 24foot 12,000 gvwr tandem utility trailer and cant seem to get info on the best Breakaway system to install. Solar backup charging would be excellent but not sure if it would be cost prohibitive... any advice? Thank you!

Hey Scott! Breakaway systems are fairly basic but I would stick with one that at least has a tester on it so you can make sure it is ready to go. The Bright Way Trailer Breakaway Kit with Charger, LED Tester, and 5 Ah Battery # 3802346 is a good option for the tandem axle trailer you're building. None of them come with a solar charger but you can add a simple little charger like the # PTW2997 to keep it topped off.
I see your 2nd question (sorry for the delay we are a bit behind right now) and we don't have any information on the DOT lighting requirements. I would check with local authorities or even see if a local trailer shop is willing to share that with you. We do have lighting kits for trailers over 80" wide like # TL16RK which come with everything you need to meet those requirements but some things can vary state to state.

Thank you for the excellent information and I fully understand how busy things get. I ended up going to a Pennsylvania enhanced inspection station and asking the mechanic to go over the lighting with me and he was more than willing to. He will be the guy inspecting it so it should be correct.
