Features to know about

Better Control When Roads Get Slick: Diagonal Pattern Keeps Traction in the Turns

When snow starts to pile up and the road curves ahead, these diagonal-pattern cable chains keep steady contact with the ground. The continuous V-shape layout gives smoother handling and better grip through turns than old-style ladder cables, so you get more control and stopping power instead of sliding around.

Smooth Ride and Easy Storage: Low-Profile Rollers Stay Quiet

These cables are built with low-profile rollers that wrap tightly around the wire core to keep your ride smooth. You won’t feel the harsh bumping that heavy chains can cause on plowed or patchy roads. They’re lightweight and compact too, so you can stash them in the trunk and forget about them until the weather turns.

Fit Tight Every Time: Included Rubber Tensioners Hold the Cables Secure

There’s no guesswork when it comes to keeping these cables snug. The set includes custom rubber tensioners that clip into place in a star pattern for a firm fit. They keep the cables centered so you don’t have to stop and readjust once you’re moving.

Built to Handle Light Snow: Alloy Steel Construction Adds Strength

Even though these are made for light snow, the alloy steel cables are tough enough for repeated use. The steel resists wear and delivers reliable performance when you need a little extra bite in slippery conditions. That strength means they’ll be ready whenever winter decides to surprise you again.

Made for Tight Clearances: SAE Class S Compatible

If your wheel wells don’t leave much room to spare, these are built to fit. They meet SAE Class S standards for vehicles with limited clearance, giving you safe traction without rubbing or damage. It’s a smart solution for drivers who need snow traction but can’t run bulky chains.

Installing Cable Chains

Step 1 of Titan Chain cable installation showing tire chains laid flat on the ground to check for twists or kinks before installation.

Step 2 of Titan Chain cable installation showing the chain being slid behind the tire and the rear cable ends connected.

Step 3 of Titan Chain cable installation showing connections being made in front of the tire at the top and bottom points.

Step 4 of Titan Chain cable installation showing rubber tensioners attached in a star pattern to tighten and secure the chains on the tire.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Received chains much earlier than I expected. etrailer is great to work with. Got notice when they shipped and confirmation when I received them. Watched their installation video and was able to install my chains easily. They fit perfectly and looking forward to hitting the mountain snow!

by:

These were mounted on a 2017 Fiat 500 Sport. Last February we drove from Quartzsite Arizona thru Santa Fe New Mexico to Denver, Boulder, and then spent 3 weeks in Aspen Colorado before heading west back to Quartzsite. In Aspen it snowed nearly every day and I put the chains on and removed the chains multiple times. By the third cycle I had the installation wired and could install them on the side of the road in a raging blizzard in less than 5-6 minutes - with gloves on. Great product that worked incredibly well. We could have never done the trip without them.

by:

I have not used the product yet but I pulled it out and simulated the installation steps. Product looks solid and of good quality. The instructions contains photos, some of which are difficult to discern the details; a drawing/diagram would be more helpful.

by:

I knew zero about snow chains for my truck. etrailer website gave me all the information I needed to make a buying decision. Then easy ordering, great shipping and perfect follow up. They even showed me how to install my chains!

by:

I haven't used them yet. Price and delivery were good. Previous purchases from etrailer have been very satisfactory.

by:

We ordered these during the recent winter storms in North Carolina. Have never used chains before. Unfortunately, due to USPS delays, by the time we received them, we really didn't need them, but they will be good for peace of mind. I'm sure sometime they will be useful. We practiced putting them on yesterday and found that the tensioner was a lot harder to get on than shown in the video. My husband, who is strong, was barely able to do it, and there's no way I ever could. That's why they got 4 stars instead of 5 from me. But the product seems to be high quality, and I love the carry/storage bag they came in.

by:

Haven't used tire cables yet … but … did install one to check the fit and look. And the thing fit perfectly on my 2019 F150 with 245/70r17 tires. Even look pretty good too! I especially like that the cables can be put on as the truck sets - no need to lay them out and back over them. And the carrying bag is nice - keeps everything together and able to be stored under a seat, in the bed, or wherever. I thought about getting chains with v-bars … but didn't think I needed anything that aggressive - so the tire cables ought to do just fine in deeper snow, packed snow and maybe even on ice.

by:

Perfectly capable tire cables. Helped me get around my iced up city during the North Texas ice storm in late January.

Only two criticisms: 1. The bag came really dirty and dusty, like it’d been sitting in a barn since the 1800s. 2. the included tensioners weren’t long enough to strap to all 5 points across the rim. Luckily I had some 18 in bungee cords that solved this problem.

by:

Looks to be of decent quality. I like the carry bag they come in which is a nice touch. Have not used them yet or put them on my car, so can’t give a full honest review at this time.

by:

Shipping was quick, installation fiddly but doable. Customer service was excellent. Removal is a pain as things wont line up as neatly, but with some practice isn't bad. I got to use the chains in anger this winter and performance was great, I got into and out of places that would have been impassible otherwise, even with true 4x4 and good tires. Recommended for the price point and for occasional use.

by:

Thank you for the proper fit for my tires. Fast and easy service. Great job!!!!!

by:

The instructional videos were great. Price very competitive. Order processing was fast, efficient. Impressed that they follow up.

by:

I have practiced installing the chains and it was a simple procedure. I hope never to need to use them, but they remain at the ready.

by:

I have still not opened those.

by:

I received the exact tire chains that I ordered, and very quickly. The chains are complete and handily packaged, both for shipping and for carrying in my luggage compartment. And while they are an excellent product, I hope never to need them.

by:

Fortunately, I have yet to have used this product! However it arrived in a timely fashion, in fact in a very sturdy box and inside was a bag that held the Snow tire chains, nicely assembled. I'm hoping in the next few days to practice the initial installation to see they operate. In a couple of weeks I am going to Vermont and chances are I will be able to put these snow tire chains to the test

by:

etrailer went above and beyond, getting me my tire chains in only days, when I was expecting it to take a week or more. I got an email immediately letting me know, which was a nice personal touch. The research and purchase process on the website was smooth and fast.

Regarding the chains themselves, I think they are OK for the job. I have non standard size tires (265 35/20) and very little clearance on an Audi A7. So it was difficult to find anything that fit. I had already returned a pair before I bought these. I bought these chains more just as an emergency option since I live around and travel in the mountains. But I hope to never have to put them on. It was a quite a finicky process doing it just at home in my garage, so would be much more difficult out in the snow and cold. But overall they do fit OK and seem like they will do the job in an emergency.

by:

In shopping for a chain cable, I was impressed with the video of Ed demonstrating how easy it was to install your product. That demo inspired me to order from etrailer. The online order system and prompt shipping went smoothly and delivery was on time. The carrying bag for the cables is a quality product, too. The pictorial instructions will help a lot.

by:

Worked well, easy to install, but soon rusted.

by:

Great tire chain used it this thanks giving and after seeing so many cheaper ones and some expensive ones break I was glad I got this make great chains easy to put on and worked great

by:

I've used these chains several times in this winter and it works only on flat roads with light snow. My 2015 Subaru Forester wearing these chains couldn't climb 10 - 20 degrees road with around 3 - 6 inches snow. I was expecting my Subaru could climb that road because it wasn't steep. No issues with clearance. I should have bought diamond pattern chains.

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon with Tire Size 225/60R18
We have similar tire cables to the Titan set you referenced that do fit your tire size of 225/60R18 like with the # PW1046 from Glacier but the # TC343DC would not fit. If you wanted my recommendation though I would go with the Konig Easy Fit chains part # TH04115245 since this provides the ultimate in traction, durability, and ease of install. These literally install in a matter of seconds and don't require you to roll around on the ground at all to install either. Check out the install...

  • Tire Chains for 2017 and 2022 Subaru Outback With 225/65R17 Tires
Hi Roger; all of these are Class S compatible so while clearance varies slightly it will be comparable between the ones you're looking at. If you're looking for something that will work in an emergency, and you are getting these because they're required, the Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC343DC is the best choice. These are actually cables which is why the cost is so low. Most people get cable because they have to have them but really don't intend on using them. If you plan to use them...

Hi Leigh, The Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC1042 are not a fit for your tire size but the Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC343DC are. The owner's manual states not to use tire chains but if you absolutely have to then you'll need class S compatible chains. The # TC343DC are class S compatible but cable-style chains really aren't effective so I'd recommend the Konig Tire Chains # TH01221104 over them if you're going to use any. These are also class S compatible and offer assisted...

  • Should I Get Snow Socks, Cables, Or Chains For My 2022 Subaru Forester?
The ISSE Classic Snow Socks # TCH70 will meet the Department of Transportation requirements in all states, but they will not be very effective if you do end up hitting snow. Due to this, I tend to steer people away from this option and towards one that will get you better traction when you need it most. The Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC343DC will do a much better job than the socks will, but even these are really only intended for one season. With that said, I...

  • Recommended Snow Chains for a 2019 Subaru Forester w/ 225/60R17 Tires
I have a great option for you but the tire chains that use cables, like item # TC343DC, are only good for a one time use. They are pretty cheap and are a way to check the box and say you have tire chains when the law requires it. For a set of chains that are Class S compatible and will fit the 225/60R17 tires on your 2019 Subaru Forester I recommend the Konig Tire Chains item # TH01221104. The diamond pattern chains provide more chain contact, which ultimately leads to better traction...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 2019 Subaru Outback
We do have fits for your 2019 Subaru Outback tires that are size 225/65-17. I did take a look at the owner's manual and while it says tire chains should not be used, it does allow the use of traction devices that are Class S compatible on the front wheels. For this I recommend the Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC343DC because the cables are in a diagonal, V-shaped pattern for the best traction in light snow. I have added a link to a video review of these cables...

According to the owner's manual for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon, tire chains cannot be used on this vehicle due to limited clearance between the tires and vehicle body. However, I do still have options for you. For your 225/65-17 tires, I recommend taking a look at a set of tire cables such as the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains part # TC1042 for ladder style or part # TC343DC for v-style. • Which Snow Tire Chains Will Fit My 2013 Audi A6 Tires?
We do have low-profile snow tire chains for your 2013 Audi A6. You can go with a cable design or a chain design. Cables are lower profile, easier to use, and are less-likely to damage your vehicle if they somehow come undone while driving. Chains on the other hand are thicker and more aggressive for heavier snow and also could potentially cause more damage than cables if they happened to break. That being said, I recommend going with a cable setup, but I will give you options for each style. If...
