Video Transcript for Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be looking at the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack, part number Y02634. The Yakima FullBack 2 carries up to two bikes and secures it with both an integrated cable lock and stabilization straps. This bike rack can carry a wide variety of bikes ranging from road bikes to mountain bikes, to even some kids' bikes and alternate frame bikes. However, in some cases, you may need to use an adapter bar, which is sold separately. The bikes are held into a place at three points. We're going to have two zip strips up at the top here, and one off to the side, which is going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth and making bike-to-bike contact. Zip strips are also very easy to install, just push on the tabs on either side and they can come loose or push back into place. While one side has the integrated cable lock on the end of the arm, the other end of the arm has a bottle opener. The cradles themselves are stationary but have this SuperCush material here so when you sit the frame of your bike in there, it's not going to get scratched up.

The zip strips also have this material, so it's protected on both sides. For those close quarter situations such as parking or putting it in your garage, it has these easy turn dials here, you just pull up and the arms fold down to give you a little more clearance in the back. It also has this central hub dial here, so you can fold it down to your specific vehicle. Always refer to your instructions to know the proper settings for each vehicle. How this actually attached to your vehicle, we're going to have four mounting points. We're going to have these two rubber coated hooks up at the top, labeled as such.

Then we're going to have two hooks labeled bottom at the base of our trunk. In certain instances, you'll have to convert these hooks into anchor points for certain vehicles with glass hatches or other requirements. It also has these convenient rubber strips to hold the excess straps once you tighten the cam-buckles down. To help better protect your vehicle for either the trunk or the windshield of your hatch, it has these two rubber pads at the top, and the base is padded as well where it makes contact with the bumper or the base of your trunk. It should be noted that if you're installing this on some hatch vehicles that you may not be able to use your rear windshield wiper once this is installed. For additional security, it does come with this safety strap, which is optional for your vehicles. It will wrap around your actual bike rack and install in between where the hatch or trunk meets the vehicle.

When you're finished using your bike rack, you can fold it into this position for storage or to put it in your vehicle so it's ready for its next use. First we'll take it onto our slalom course. This will show you the side-to-side action such as making turns or evasive maneuvers. Now we're at the alternating speed bumps. This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps, which simulates going into your driveway or parking lot. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the bike rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs.

One of the first things you want to do is clean off the area where the bike rack is going to sit, which in this case is going to be the base where our hatch meets the bumper and our windshield. We'll set the bottom of our bike rack at the base here where the hatch meets the bumper, get it centered up, then we'll come up to the top here to the center hub and adjust it for our vehicle. You do so like that. We're able to extend this out. If you come to the inside, you can see the numbers, and that's going to be the dial we'll use for this vehicle. We'll get it centered up, then we can start attaching our hooks. Take our hook marked top, put it up in between our hatch and our vehicle. I'm going to make that I position it so that it's not blocking off any of the lights in our rear here. Then come to our strap here, push down the tab, and tighten it up. We'll repeat this for the other top strap. Now we'll move on to the bottom hooks. You can open up the hatch or your trunk to put these in, but for this vehicle I can kind of maneuver it down there into position, and again, we'll take our straps and tighten them into place. We'll repeat this for the other one as well. Take our excess here, just fold it up, and then it has these rubber straps here, and you can push that through to hold that in place. With the bike rack fully installed and secured, next we'll fold out our arms so we can start loading up some bikes. We'll come to the lighter gray dials here, push those up just like we did with the center hub, and that'll lift our arms out. Move on to our zip strips. If you push the tabs in on either side, that'll release them and we'll go ahead and remove all of them as we're going to be installing two bikes on this. A little trick you might want to do here is fold up the anti-sway cradle all the way. That'll make loading a little bit easier for you. I'll load up our first bike. Now we can reinstall our zip strips. Before we install our other bike, I'll install our wheel strap here, it's the buckle strap and it helps keep the front tire in place and from making contact with your vehicle while you drive. Next we'll install our second bike, making sure it's one contact with the pedals to each one. Then we'll install our zip strips. Next we'll take our stabilization strap, wrapping it around the frames of our bikes as well as behind our actual bike rack, back through bike, and back towards the front. Then, just cinch it up, keep the bikes together, we'll tie off that excess as well. Finally, we'll install our integrated cable lock. Wrap it around our front bike, attach it to our locking points, and now we're ready to hit the road. Now that we've shown you how to install it with just the hooks, let's go ahead and show you how to install it with the anchor points as well. We have a vehicle here that does require that, and the first thing we'll do is remove the top strap completely from the cam-buckle. Next you'll see it has this slot at the top of the hook that we'll slide that through like so, and pull it tight. Next, we'll open up the hatch of our vehicle. We'll install these from the inside out, making sure we avoid pinch points such as the hinges. We'll get it started, set those aside. Now we'll get our other strap and do the same. Now we can close our hatch and pull those anchor points tight. Then we'll set them down like so to receive our bike rack. If you're installing this for the bottom part of the trunk as well for the anchor points, it would work the exact same way except you would set them in between here to make sure it doesn't come within the contact of the hatch or the latch point. Next we can install the rest of our bike rack, following all of the instructions and pic guide specifications. Bring your cam-buckle up, and reinstall our straps. Again we'll tie off our excess, then we'll install our bike and we're ready to go. There you have it for the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack, part number Y02634.

Excellent fit (Volvo XC60) and solid construction. And after the learning curve, easy and relatively quick to install. Clearly a lot of thought went into the design of this bike rack. The additional bar (bike frame adapter) for a women’s bike is a must but easy and hassle free. 542404

Everything shipped on time. Easy to open and instructions were easy to follow — it is essential to follow each step! It was a bit heavier than I expected but I had no problems installing it on my own (5’5”, 130lb, healthy). The 2 bikes fit perfectly. I bought a safety strap not realizing that it does come with one. Installed on my 2016 RAV4 LE. Haven’t taken it on the road yet, but I feel confident with the fit and security of the bikes. 646547

I’m very pleased with my new bike rack because it is strong and sturdy, the bikes are far enough away from the car so my car doesn’t get scratched, it has plastic locks which which secure each bike down (3 for each bike), it has a large strap which secures to the bike rack to keep bikes secure and not moving around, and there is an optional strap you can use which attaches the bike rack to the car. 543195

The installation was not that bad given all of the information on the net about installation. This is a very sturdy back rack that stabilizes your bike without damaging your vehicle. It is also easy to remove from your vehicle for storage. I strongly recommend this bike rack especially if you want quality and easy installation. 423455

2017 Toyota RAV4

After buying a 2017 Toyota RAV 4 I was faced with the dilemma of a new bike rack that fit my car without destroying the spoiler on the back hatch. etrailer made it easy to find the correct rack for my car. This rack works perfectly for this car without doing damage to the spoiler. It is heavy duty and I have had so many comments about what a great bike rack it is from people who knew of my concerns about finding a rack for this car. 435926

Comments
Unfortunately not so good. The bike rack did not damage the spoiler but it did scratch, dent and crack the paint on the back of my car. I would not recommend this bike rack at all.

In Yakima's installation instructions, it is noted that many vehicle trunks and liftgates to have large sections of minimally supported metal that may dent under the weight of the bike rack alone, not to mention the addition of bikes. That is why they include vehicle specific fit information, and for your 2017 Toyota RAV4 the fit instructions indicate that the Fullback should have the hub setting should be at position 4, and the upper strap hooks attach at the edge of trunk and hatch door. The lower support frame should rest on the lower portion of the license plate area.

It's not my intent to write a negative review-- rather, simply to say that this bikerack doesn't fit my 2017 RAV4 Here is why: the straps would have to go *over* the spoiler on top of the hatchback door. This is specifically not recommended in the directions for installing the product. Also, for most new bicycles you would need a "bike-bar" accessory to hang each bike in a level position. Once again, mounting a bike in a 'not-level' position is specifically not recommended. I hope to send this one back.... and get a platform rack that attaches to a trailer hitch. 566638

Wish somewhere it had said, that if you have girls bicycles, you need bars for them. Everything else was great! 617373

Comments
We do note this on the products web page. This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar sold separately to mount a childrens, womens, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small childrens bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

etrailer, Thank you for your fantastic service. Very impressed with your website and service from beginning to end. We are very pleased with our new Yakima bike rack and the Malone bike adapters. We had our first outing today and was soooo pleased with how the rack mounted and held our bikes perfectly in place. All down to your great descriptions, videos and car match info. Received as ordered and on schedule. Test mounted on 2015 RAV4 following clear instructions. Note an interface with Yakima web site required to get specific configuration for a vehicle. Mount passed the "yank it test" for the initial fit up. Road test not yet completed - fifth star will depend on that outcome. Note that the mount on the hatch door of the RAV4 will prevent access to the rear cargo compartment without prior removal of the bike rack. 608837

I haven't used the bike rack as much as I expected since I do much of my riding around our community. Still it's handy to have just in case I want to ride on one of the local bike trails. It's good and sturdy, and simple to install on the RAV4. A good value for the money. 478032

2018 Kia Stinger

Bought the Yakima rack for my new 2018 Stinger. I very carefully and correctly attached this rack to my car and transported my bike on a 5 hour trip. The rack (not the bike) seriously blemished the paint on the lower portion of the trunk including chipping the paint. My advice to Stinger owners is to avoid this rack. 634184

Comments
Any time a piece of equipment is mounted to a vehicle and is in direct contact with the painted surface, the possibility exists that the paint could be damaged. There are a few primary reasons why this can happen. 1 Grit or dirt can get caught in between the painted surface and the portion of the rack that touches the vehicle. Be sure that the padded surface of the rack and the portion it touches are completely free of dirt and grit. A good coat of quality car wax in the area can offer additional protection. 2 The rack was installed incorrectly. This doesnt sound like the case here, but its recommended that the instructions be read over several times and followed to the letter. The instructions are written in such a way that the weight of the bikes and the rack are distributed in such a way that is least likely to damage the vehicle. 3 The weight capacity of the rack is exceeded. The rack can carry a total of 70 lbs, with neither bike weighing more than 35 lbs. 4 We recommend removing the rack when its not in use. The safest way to go is to install a hitch and use a hitch mounted bike rack. That way, nothing will be in direct contact with a painted surface.

I have not taken the rack on a trip as yet. A 400-mile trip next week. On the run-through of putting it together, it was fine. Somewhat difficult on my SUV because to put in the bicycle tether to avoid someone running off with the rack, I had to raise to hatch to get it installed. The rack had to already be in place. Was nerve-racking, not knowing what would happen when I opened the automatic hatch. I look forward to using it. Only lost one star because of weight. Rather heavy. That may also mean it is strong though. 726789

This bike rack is awesome. It's universal and fits most cars. I've used it on a Hyundai Sonata, Mercedes C300 & Audi Q3. The only issue I would say would be that sometimes it can be a little cumbersome to put on. I'm not the biggest guy in the world and putting this on my Audi can be a little tougher. It's still an awesome rack though. I also have the adjustable bike rack bar which makes it simple to put on and off the rack. 683807

The difference between the Yakima FullBack, part # Y02634 and the HalfBack, part # Y02636 is that the FullBack is has locks. The Yakima FullBack includes integrated bike and rack locks, which provide improved security as an anti-theft device for the bike and racks over the HalfBack that does not have these locks. Beyond that, they are identical racks. They are available in 3 Bike variations as well, as part # Y02633 for the FullBack and part # Y02635 for the HalfBack.

  • Best 2 Bike Rack for Full Suspension Mountain Bikes on a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
A lot of this depends on if your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a trailer hitch receiver or not. If you don't have a trailer hitch, your best pick for a portable rack will be the Yakima FullBack Trunk Mount Rack, part # Y02634. This rack has integrated bike and rack locks, giving it a lot of security. It can be easily installed and removed, allowing you maximum flexibility. Additionally, the ZipStrip mounting mechanisms help reduce vibration and sway as your bikes ride. If...

  • Recommended Hitch and Hitch Bike and Cargo Carriers for 2018 Mini Countryman
There is a solution for safely transporting two bikes on your Mini Countryman without risk to the bikes or to the car and this consists of installing a hitch and using a hitch-type bike rack. I'll explain why. There are trunk-mount bike racks that are confirmed to fit the 2018 Mini Countryman, and these appear on the page I linked for you. However, they are limited to a 2-bike capacity due to weight concerns. Among them is the Yakima FullBack 2 carrier # Y02634 that you referenced in...

  • Compatibility of Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack on 2018 Volvo XC60
The Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # Y02634 is a confirmed fit from the manufacturer for your 2018 Volvo XC60. This means they physically tested it on your year/make/model of vehicle. Unfortunately we don't have a video of this rack on your vehicle, but we do have a tech note that the weight limit for 2 bikes on your vehicle is 60 lbs and both the upper and lower hooks on the straps must be in stalled in anchor mode on your vehicle. I've attached a photo...

  • Bike Rack for 2019 Mini Cooper Hardtop S
I wish we had a hitch that would fit your vehicle but at this time we do not have any option aside from recommending a trunk mounted bike rack like the Yakima Fullback part # Y02634 which has been confirmed as a fit for your 2019 Mini Cooper Hardtop S and would work well. It comes with locks for the rack to the vehicle and for the bikes to the rack.

  • Recommended Trunk-Mount Bike Rack for 2019 BMW X5
Yes, for your 2019 BMW X5 I highly recommend the Yakima FullBack 2-Bike Rack # Y02634 or the 3-Bike version # Y02633. I verified with Yakima that this is confirmed to fit your X5. This is an excellent trunk-mount carrier that features SuperCush anti-sway cradles and ratcheting straps to hold the bikes at 3 different point for an extremely stable ride and rubber pads on all the contact points to prevent any scratches on the BMW. Integrated locks are also included to help protect your...

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Ford Explorer with Rear Spoiler
You should not put stress or weight on the rear spoiler on your 2016 Ford Explorer and there is only one kind of trunk mount rack that can do that. Take a look at the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top rack # HRF2 for 2 bikes or # HRF2-3 for 3 bikes. These racks have an extra arm piece that moves the straps up and over the spoiler so no weight or stress is put on it. I have included a link to a video showing how it works. The Yakima FullBack, # Y02634, is a great rack but it would put stress...

  • Will Yakima FullBack 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack Fit a 2016 Honda CR-V
If your 2016 Honda CR-V is an LX, SE, or EX then the Yakima FullBack, part # Y02634, is confirmed to fit. However, if you have the Touring or EX-L model it isn't. Instead I recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top, part # HRF2. It's the best trunk mount rack we carry for hatchbacks; especially ones with a spoiler. Whichever rack you use on your Honda you'll probably need a bike frame adapter bar like the Swagan Deluxe, part # 64005, if you're carrying any women's or children's bikes....

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2016 Toyota Prius
Yakima has confirmed the fit of the Yakima Fullback bike rack part # Y02634 on your 2016 Toyota Prius, but if your customer is concerned the best option will be a hitch mounted bike rack as that gives you a very secure mount for a bike rack that doesn't touch any glass or painted surfaces. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Roadway 2 part # TH912XTR. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2015 Mini Countryman
To carry bikes the 2015 Mini Countryman is going to require either a roof rack or a trailer hitch. I recommend using a trailer hitch because it is ultimately less money and it is much easier to load and unload the bikes. For a trailer hitch I recommend # 24934 for your Countryman. This is a Class I trailer hitch so the bike rack needs to be rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. For a compatible bike...

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for 2019 Jeep Cherokee
For your 2019 Jeep Cherokee the trunk bike rack I recommend is the Yakima FullBack 2 # Y02634 because it has a very wide pad where the rack touches the vehicle to distribute the weight of the bikes and rack better and because it is very easy to use. I attached a picture that shows this rack installed on a similar 2019 Jeep Cherokee as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike...

I attached a picture of the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack # Y02634 you mentioned on a 2018 Ford EcoSport like you have. This is a really great trunk rack option we recommend highly. It has locks for the rack and bikes (most don't), is easy to install, and has a wide mounting pad on the lower arm to help spread the weight of the bikes and rack out. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat...

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 Toyota Prius

  • How to Install the Yakima FullBack Bike Rack on a 2012 Acura MDX
The Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack, # Y02634, does not require the glass hatch hooks like Yakima's older bike rack models. Instead, the upper hooks must be changed and installed in anchor mode. To install the top straps in anchor mode, you will want to run the strap through the slot in the hook and then install the strap into the bike rack. This process is outlined in the included instructions on page 4. Please note, the headliner can become deformed or damaged under prolonged contact...

I looked up pictures of your Specialized StumpJumper and it can be used on the Yakima FullBack part # Y02634 that you referenced but you will need to use an adapter bar like the part # UB01. This adapter will attach to the steering stem and the seat post to provide a level attachment for the rack. I attached a review video for the adapter for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Trunk-Mount Bike Carrier for 2016 Ford Edge with Roofline Spoiler
A rear spoiler on a vehicle, whether it is at the roofline as on your Ford Edge or on the trunk as on many small sedans, can make it tougher to fit a trunk-mount bike carrier. Fortunately the smart folks at Yakima created 2- and 3-bike versions of their Fullback locking carrier that will work fine on your car. Both the 2-bike # Y02634 and the 3-bike # Y02633 use a simpler 4-strap attachment system - not 6 like most racks do. This means easier installation as shown in the linked video....

I checked with Yakima and the Fullback 2 part # Y02634 is a confirmed fit and would not damage the spoiler.
