Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new cable chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile cables can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing cable chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in the cables.

Cross cable connections have a smooth side that goes against the tire

2. Where each cross cable attaches, you'll notice there is a smooth side and one with an edge. Make sure the smooth side faces in to sit against your tire's sidewall as you drape the cables over your tire.

Making connections behind and in front of the wheel

3. On the front of the tire, feed the cable through the connection loop until it's tight, then use the lever to keep the extra cable from flapping as you drive. Repeat this on the backside of the tire.

Rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing cables out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Are The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW2028C Low-Profile
Yes, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PW2028C are "low-profile" (Class S) chains. The manual states that "If the vehicle has LT265/70R17, LT275/65R18, 275/60R20, or 275/50R22 size tires, do not use tire chains. They can damage the vehicle because there is not enough clearance. Tire chains used on a vehicle without the proper amount of clearance can cause damage to the brakes, suspension, or other vehicle parts. The area damaged by the tire chains could cause you to lose control...

I attached an install video that shows how the Glacier Tire Cables part # PW2028C install on a similar 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500 as yours for you to check out. Tire cables like this are a perfect solution for what you described. They'll get you through DOT, in an emergency will work, and are lower priced.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2012 Ford F-350 with Tire Size 275/70R18
For as heavy of a truck as your 2012 Ford F-350 is I would not recommend the use of cable type chains since they wouldn't last very long. I'd rather see you go with the part # TC2533 is a diamond pattern chain that is also pretty easy to install. Diamond patterns provide a smoother ride quality and provide better traction around corners. The ladder style are better for very deep snow.

There are numerous options for tire chains for the 2014 Buick Enclave with 255/60-19 tires. I have included a link to the right with all the options for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual first for any specific requirements or recommendations on the use of chains on your vehicle. Out of the options, if you will not be using chains very often I recommend cables # PW2028C that you referenced. Cables are great for infrequent use. You will also want some rubber adjusters # PW99...

The first step when considering tire chains for any vehicle is a review of the owner's manual to see whether the auto maker has guidance on the subject. I found an online version of the manual for your 2010 Frontier and on page 8-39 it indicates that low-profile S-Class chains can be used, but only on the rear tires. These will help to ensure that the cables stay tight on your tires while you are driving.

When looking for the better quality, durability, and function, chains, like the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2327, will be the better option.
