To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at Glacier Cable snow tire chains. Part number PW2029C.These tire chains are going to help you get additional traction in light snow and icy conditions. You'll install these on your drive axle, so you'll want to verify if your vehicle's front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive. They feature a laddered pattern with spring rollers. The ladder pattern's going to be great for getting traction on starting, acceleration, but they're going to be a lot smoother than your V-bars and other types. So it's going to help reduce road noise and vibration. These are an entry level cable style snow tire chain.

These are going to be great for occasional use, and they're particularly nice in areas where you're required to have safety chains, so you can just keep a set in your trunk just for emergencies.Included with your tire chains, you're going to get a carrying case that'll also allow you to store your chains in a nice compact bag and place it in your vehicle. Included in your bag you get a quantity of two chains so you can have one for each side. They'll meet Department of Transportation's specifications in all states. They're easy to install with the locking mechanism here. This allows you to install it a little bit looser, and then adjust that tension easily. This makes for a much easier and quicker install that will require you not to pull forward so many times and readjust it.Included in your bag you'll get some additional plastic links here, so if you need to add more or if one happens to fall off down the road, you can always replace them. Now it is recommended to use a rubber tensioner to help keep your tire chains secure and center to your tire. And that completes our look at Glacier Cable's snow tire chains. Part number PW2029C..

GMC Yukon XL

Had these JIC for all 4 tires on my Yukon XL for a cross country trip up and downALCAN to Alaska. Very easy to install, one tire at a time cause the car rolls on them if your too hard on brakes positioning them. 377746

2013 Ford F-150

I haven't used my chains in snow yet, but I installed them on the tires of my F-150 and they fit perfectly. I also found them to be very easy to install. When I go for a ski trip this winter, it will be great to know that I don't have to be overly worried about the weather. I'll also comment that the chains came in a handy carrying case that will easily fit under the seat. Exactly what I was needing. 100038

Due to rough winters here in midwest I sold the two wheel drive truck that used these chains. Bought 4 wheel drive that does not use chains.

Still have not had an opportunity to use them they were purchased to use on a trip to Colorado in the winter. Fortunately we didn’t have to use them.

2018 GMC Yukon

Used these for our 2015 Yukon with 20 in wheels on a 2018 ski trip. Were great in the snow. Easy to put on, although it took a few times to get good at it. Unfortunately I used them on our way down and then drove 7 hours home and left in the garbage bag overnight. After pulling them out, they had completely rusted because of the humidity (ocean air). So I get to buy another set. 603237

2013 Ford F-150

Excellent price, fast shipping. And we just fitted the chains today. They really do fit our 4x4 2013 F-150 with limited clearance in the rear. Sure good to have them in the truck now in case of a bad winter situation. 110098

2014 Ford Expedition

While not as aggressive as all-link chains I found this design to provide good traction in snow and moderate icing conditions. Chains are light weight, easy to mount, and store in compact container when not in use. Design provides extra measure of protection for brake, suspension, and body components where clearances are reduced by tire/wheel size or custom modifications. There isn't a lot of excitement when it comes to tire chains and adjusters unless it is when you need them and you don't have them, or you have them and they don't fit, or you have them and they don't work. With etrailer I managed to miss ALL the excitement! As always I received excellent sales and shipping service to get me the correct chains and adjusters in time for an unscheduled trip, they fit to a "T", and provided excellent traction with no sidewall wear or impact with body or brake components. I always marvel at finding the best service for truck and trailer equipment half way across the country rather than in my own backyard. 336791

They fit good here at home in the gravel driveway. I'll have to wait until we get to Colorado on our hunting trip to actually determine how they do in the snow and mud.The main objective was clearance on the front tires and that seems to be OK so far. 304922

Easily installed. I practiced installing them before my trip to lake Tahoe. Thankfully, I didn't need to use them, but I felt secure knowing they were in my truck. I gave only four stars because they were not used. When I do use them, I will revisit this review and rate accordingly. 343193

These chains appear to be what I need, I will be traveling from the deep south to the Tetons in February and just might have a need for chains on a very seldom basis. These chains appear to be much easier to put on and take off, and the price is very good. I do want to commend etrailer.com customer service (Bridget A). I called to try to correct an error I made on my online order and she was excellent in correcting my problem - - thank you Bridget. 65041

I still have the chains in the bag, but they have never been on my tires. I was really glad to not have to use them, but have them ready for the next trip to the snow for just in case.

I couldn't get my motor home back from repair because of deep snow so looked around for chains and settled on these cable chains. If it wasn't for the -25 wind chill making my fingers numb installing would have been easy. The only problem was one lever lock wouldn't stay closed. I can cure that but hope to never use them again. Great product! 330499

- PW2028C

I am giving this product one star short of "excellent" only because they have not ever been used since purchased - and I hope it stays that way. I do think it's a solid product as I have practiced putting these chains on my SUV just in case I will need them and reasonably priced. Thanks! 582293

2012 Buick Enclave

I bought these for my 2012 Buick Enclave (Lamda platform). These will just barely clear the front strut - by maybe 1/4 of an inch - although that is with a brand new set of tires on the car. They fit very well on the tire, though, so no risk of them coming loose. 65982

2011 Nissan Titan

My truck was stuck in deep snow overnight. I was worried because I am a small lady and have bought chains before, which I returned because they were too difficult for me to put on the truck. These went on in a few minutes, and my truck climbed right out of the snow. THANK YOU! I am seriously considering buying another set so that I have 4. Great product! 233571

- PW2028C

I received my snow chains/cables very quickly, in time for our latest round of bad weather. I test fitted them and they seem a little loose but my tires on have about 1/4 of the tread left. If the tires were new or newer, they would fit better. I tried to put them back in the storage bag they came in and it ripped apart at the seams. So while I think the chains are good quality I can not give them highest marks based on the bag. Customer service gets an A+ 116359

  • Low-Profile S-Class Tire Chains for 2006 Ford F-150 with 265/60-18 Tires
Auto makers often discourage use of tire chains because of potential interference with components in the braking system or other parts within the wheel wells. At the same time many states/regions require use of chains, or at least having a set in the vehicle, or you could receive a summons or be barred access to certain roads. One of my fellow Experts gave this situation the affectionate term "Tire Chain Paradox". The bottom line is that the auto maker cannot force you to brake the...

  • Cable Tire Chain Recommendations for a 2013 Ford F-150 with Tire Size P275/55R20
Yes, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, # PW2028C, are listed as a fit for the P275/55R20 tires on your 2013 Ford F-150. I also recommend picking up a set of the Glacier Rubber Adjusters, part # PW99, because the Glacier cable chains do not include any type of tensioner or adjuster. If you are interested in the cable style chain, I would recommend taking a look at the Titan Cable Tire Chains, # TC2028, as well. For adjusters, you can use part # TCMA2. The Glacier cable chains are...

  • Traction Device Options for a 2013 GMC Sierra with LT265/70/R18 Tires
I do have an option for you but tire chains cannot be used on your 2013 GMC Sierra with LT265/70/R18 tires as you mentioned. Tire chains will extend out past the tread on your tires about 1/2". This creates a problem as they run the risk of interfering with brake lines and other components located outside the frame rail. I recommend using a set of tire cables such as the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW2028C which have a much lower profile in comparison to chains and should not...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited
The # PW2028C Glacier cable snow chains are a fit for the 265/70-16 tire size on your 1997 Toyota 4Runner, but I would definitely recommend getting the rubber adjusters. These chains fit a range of tire sizes but do not have a built-in tightening feature, so the adjusters are required to take up the slack unless your tire size is one of the largest in the range. The # PW100 adjusters fit vehicles with 12 to 16 inch wheels and the # PW99 set fits 16 to 20 inch wheels. Since your 16...

  • Class S Tire Chains for 2015 Ford F-150 with 285/60-20 Size Tires
The only Class S rated snow chains/cables we have available for the larger 285/60-20 tires on your Ford F-150 is with the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC3029. These are low-carbon steel rollers that will allow for better traction in the snow. Please keep in mind though that cable chains like these likely won't give you the type of traction in heavier snow or mud like a traditional tire chain would. The issue is that there just isn't a low clearance/Class S rated set of standard...

  • Using Tire Chains on a 2012 Ford F-150 While Towing a Travel Trailer Through the Colorado Mountains
Cables like # PW2028C provide little traction compared to actual chains. Given that you will be in the mountains and towing a big trailer with your 2012 Ford F-150, I recommend going with actual chains. You can put chains on all 4-Wheels of a 4-Wheel drive vehicle but really you only need them on the main drive wheels which on trucks is usually the rear tires. Having chains on all 4 tires would provide even more traction, especially when turning. You will not need chains on the trailer...

  • Can Tire Chains be Used on the Front Tires of a 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat
I checked the owners manual for the 2015 Ford F-150 and I have some information on the use of tire chains on the truck. The manual says not to use chains/cables on the front tires because of interference with the suspension. It also says that you will need to use Class S rated cables, not chains. The maximum speed with cables on is 30 miles per hour. And you can only use them on the following tire sizes: 245/70-17, 265/70-17, or 265/60-18. If you have 245/70-17 tires you can use cables...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT265/70R18 Tire
For your tire size LT265/70R18 we do have cables that are confirmed to fit. The part # PW2028C that you referenced would be a great choice IF your owners manual says that cables are acceptable. We cannot recommend you go against anything in your owners manual. I attached an install video that shows these being installed on a 2014 Silverado for you to check out as well.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2008 GMC Acadia with 255/60R19 Tires
The tire cables part # PW2028C have been confirmed as a fit for the 255/60R19 you have on your 2008 GMC Acadia. As long as the owners manual of your vehicle does not have any restrictions on tire chain usage these would fit and work great for you.

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains for 2014 Buick Enclave Tire Size P255/60R19
There are numerous options for tire chains for the 2014 Buick Enclave with 255/60-19 tires. I have included a link to the right with all the options for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual first for any specific requirements or recommendations on the use of chains on your vehicle. Out of the options, if you will not be using chains very often I recommend cables # PW2028C that you referenced. Cables are great for infrequent use. You will also want some rubber adjusters #...
