Question:
I will be traveling to Pagosa Springs Colorado in December in a 2019 Subaru Forester AWD. The owners manual says class S is ok on front wheels only. Will these chains work in light to heavy snow, and...do I need 2 sets for front and back or only 1 set for the front? Is there another product that is better suited? Thanks

I have a great option for you but the tire chains that use cables, like item # TC343DC, are only good for a one time use. They are pretty cheap and are a way to check the box and say you have tire chains when the law requires it.
For a set of chains that are Class S compatible and will fit the 225/60R17 tires on your 2019 Subaru Forester I recommend the Konig Tire Chains item # TH01221104. The diamond pattern chains provide more chain contact, which ultimately leads to better traction and they also provide a bit less rough of a ride than ladder pattern chains, so they're overall a good option.
They are pretty easy to install as well. I do recommend practicing before you get to the side of the road in snowy conditions and actually need them. I have linked a review video below so you can see the process.
As far as only using chains on only the front axle you'll have to check with the local area laws but you should only be required to have chains on the drive axle.
