  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter

Specs:

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 10-1/2" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

We've had it for a year in our 2008 TrailBlazer 2WD with 4.2L inline 6 cylinder. I think it's about the largest that would fit and we got it for a towing our 21' expandable camping trailer that can be about 4,500 lbs. max. Works great, although I added another install kit to be sure I had enough hose and the extra brackets and connection adapters. I did not want to use the mounting parts that poke through the radiator and A/C condenser fins, so I got the Derale kit with brackets and hose in an affordable kit together, part # D13006.

This cooler has been a blessing. I had the cooler installed on my 2000 Ford Expedition, at the time the truck had 109xxxmiles on it, after towing my first camper home and sweating from the heat of the transmission, it was obvious we needed a fix. What a night and day difference this cooler made on keeping the transmission cool. Before the cooler you could feel the heat from the transmission through the floor board on a flat interstate tow. With the cooler, recently my OD off stopped working in the middle of the West Virginia mountain rang (9% grades) while towing my camper and the transmission never even got close to as hot as it did on the way home from the first time when I picked up our camper. I couldn't have made an accurate choice on what to get without etrailer's sales staff and informative videos. The cooler gives us the confidence on any terrain we come across. We are happy campers, the Truck now has 145,xxx miles on it and has a very cool transmission.

Installed on 2009 GMC Yukon with 5.3L engine. Install video was for my exact year and model, but 1 part was incorrect. Not sure if GM changed the design, but I had 4 bolts, 2 on each side where front facia connects to front fenders in front of wheels. Video showed clips, but mine had bolts. All 4 bolts were rusted and I broke them all. Was able to remove one after I broke it, but others had to be drilled and tapped. This by far was the hardest part of this job and easily spent 2+ hours just fixing this. Other steps of installation were pretty easy. Before trans temp reached 230 degrees on a sunny 90 degree day pulling my 6000lb travel trailer. With cooler installed saw around 205 degrees so this unit helped, but was hoping for around 180 to 190. Both experiences were up and down slow incline hills in W. Wisconsin. This can be pretty grueling towing conditions. Not mountains, but still pretty tough. Trans fluid has only about 10K on it now, SUV has 75K. I have yet to replace trans filter, hoping this improves the cooling capability. Overall fairly happy, but as I said was hoping for cooler temps.

by:

Hardly any difference in flat land driving temps. Perhaps 5°to 10° cooler is all. Pulling my 10K camper any grade at all and temps still climbed. Mountain passes on any day over 80° , the trany still gets over 200° quickly. On the plus side the cooler seems to recoupe quicker than the stock one. 2009 Chevy gasser .

A normal operating temperature for your transmission fluid is between 175-225 degrees F. Adding a transmission cooler effects every vehicle differently based on a number of conditions - such as if youre towing, how heavy a load youre carrying, the outside temps, etc. From what youre describing it sounds like the results youre seeing are keeping your transmission running within that normal range. Even while towing close to your max capacity over the mountains on a warm summer day, your transmission fluid is still at the sweet spot of 200 degrees F.

by:

Overall, for the price, this is a good transmission cooler. Installation for straight-forward following instructions and videos provided. I have noticed at least 20 degree temperature decrease while hauling my 5500lb camper.

All is well after a year of use. Still going strong. I regularly drain and refill transmission fluid. Transmission fluid looks red still.

by:

I received the cooler on time and in fine condition. The factory box was well packed and all items were enclosed. I mounted the cooler using flat aluminum bar stock so I could leave a one inch space between the cooler and the front of the A/C condenser as I feel this will give me maximum transmission oil cooling. I used this product to replace a tube and fin cooler which was not doing the job even when not towing my trailers. I have not towed with this cooler yet but due to its construction I feel it will greatly reduce my transmission oil temperatures.

I have been towing my inboard boat all summer and the cooler is doing a great job which I can tell because I have a transmission temperature gauge. The hottest it ever gets is 205 degrees when going uphill.

by:

I bought this because the transmission temp in my 2013 Avalanche was hitting 220 when towing a boat. Which seems high. After researching I found that transmissions in those models are ok up to a maximum of 275 degrees (which seems crazy but it is rated that high from chevy. There’s a website called Silverado.com that has a lot of info ). I installed this product and it worked really well. Easy install with the video if you have mechanical ability. Dropped temps by about 30 degrees. Still working great no problems. Only concern I have is that the transmission temp stays pretty low in the winter. It’s working well though. I would highly recommend this product. Good products, good service!

still working great! I would highly recommend . I have had no issues and would use this product again. I am in Indiana and the trans temp can stay around 120 in the winter but I have had no issues.

Item arrived promptly and well packaged. Installed the cooler on my 2001 silvarado z71 5.3L on a warm Redding California afternoon 105f. It only took about 1/2 hour to install it inline with my stock cooler. Promptly the next day I pulled around my utility trailer loaded down with a 8x12 wood shed, outside temp on my mirror was reading 117f. Two hours of pulling and pushing and the shed was in place. It was hot I was hot truck was not even with the AC on full. The next punishment will be pulling the 25' camper kids dog and all essential beverages over the mountains in the heat to the coast.

Hey Mike could you specify where and how you mounted the second cooler please? Having trouble figuring that out!

TannerI mounted the cooler on the passenger side of the radiator using the stock transmission cooler mount and the headlight mount. The cooler was mounted sideways and all the way to the top of the compartment i dry fit it and made sure the plastic radiator cover would still snap into place as well as the hood closed with no issue before installing it inline with my stock cooler. Tight fit but it works and works well.

How much extra Transmission fluid did you have to add after the transmission was at normal operating temp?

by:

Installed this in my 2008 Avalanche, utilizing the following kit:
D13504 - This cooler
D13002 - Mounts
D13003 - Extra hose
D13035 - GM adapter

Everything went well, took the longest time just figuring how I wanted it mounted in the front to make me happy, second to the time spent was of course removing the front fascia of the car. Once I got it in place the only extra things I needed were some P-clips for hose mounting, some split loom and zip ties(my necessity to prevent chafing ever). The GM adapter went in fine, was a bit leery of how 'loose' it felt even after being clipped in, it does move in and out about a 1/4" but this is normal and no leaks present, just make sure the clip retains the adapter. Pushing the new hose on the old hard line that went to the radiator is a bit of a bear, use lube on all your hose barbed ends to ensure easy insertion. Also when mounting the cooler, some screws were attached to the bracing of the car, pre-drilling those holes with a small bit helps tremendously, rather than risk trying to drive a self tapper in with force, slipping and putting a hole in your condenser.
After install, transmission is running about 30-40 degrees cooler in normal city driving, will test to see how it does with a tow load. Under towing I would get up to just shy of 220 degrees in the Florida heat, hoping to see it stay below 190 under load.

After a year still keeping things cool, have had absolutely zero issues, put about 5,000 miles on since the install. Have taken our camper around and this has kept everything under 200 degrees even when towing up grade, as well as when the transmission unlocking the converter adding all that heat to the fluid. So Id say worth it, everyone should do this even on a lightly used truck that doesnt tow necessarily, its a cheap way to save the wear on your transmission and everything below 200 degrees is a good thing.

by:

Everything was included to do this simple upgrade. This was the perfect size for my application. The included hose was the perfect amount but, I would have been more comfortable if I had more.

by:

Fits and works excellent made my own brackets to fit across

by:

I’ve had the Timbren suspension enhancement system for a year now on my ‘99 Dodge 1500 4x4. I purchased this product because I had to tow my bumper pull three horse trailer from South Carolina to N. Central Montana. With a camper top, the bed loaded and the trailer loaded the truck sagged really bad. With the Timbrens on the sag went away completely. Making for a much safer less stressful experience while towing.

by:

The installation was not too bad. Make sure you order the correct adapter. The adapter it comes with is universal so I had to order a GM adapter after I started the installation. It mounted really clean on my 2014 Silverado. Worth the money for late model GM’S to keep the transmission heat down.

by:

Went together easy, works as advertised. Mounted front and center for most efficient cooling capacity and it does the trick. Dropped my trans temp by 40F without a trailer. Have yet to put it to the test with a heavy trailer long distances.

by:

I installed this trans cooler on my 2009 Yukon. The installation video really made it much easier. I just pulled my boat under the same conditions I had prior to the install and I am very pleased with the results. Prior to mod, my trans temp got up to 204 degrees. With cooler, it was 160-165.

by:

Quality product and a great installation video on youtube by etrialer. Dropped the trans temps an avg of 30 degrees on my 11 yukon. Make sure to watch the video and order each part number listed for an easy install!

by:

It didn’t come with the proper fitting to make with work my application which it said it was compatible with . I had to order the correct fitting to make it work . I called customer support and they told me to cut off my factory line and use a compression fitting .. then I talked to a second person and they told me the fitting number I needed to do it correctly .

Great value for the price and free shipping, package arrived on schedule, was packed extremely well, (I would know, retired Postal mail carrier), Derale 13504 transmission cooler was exactly what was described should work well for me to tow a 3500lb travel trailer with my 2008 GMC Acadia. Will be installing the cooler this week. This definitely should keep my transmission from over heating, it's rated somewhete at 22500 GVW. My vehicle and travel trailer CGVW is approximately 9000 lbs.

The Derale 13504 has kept my transmission from over heating, have towed my travel trailer over 3600 miles no problems with transmission over heating in my 2008 Acadia SLT. Will be installing a auxiliary fan in front of my radiator to assist when in towing this summer. .

Hello Gang, I have a 2013 Chevy suburban and tow a 7K plus travel trailer. While we were towing to Colorado near Cripple Creek the temps were low 90's and my trans spiked at 230. Had to pull over to let it cool down. Now keep in mind my suburban does not have a HD trans cooler just the stock radiator cooler. Fast forward one year now my stock trans line is starting to leak from the rubber hose so it's time to change. Decided to order the larger trans cooler might not have been the best idea as it's larger then where I wanted to put it. So after taking off the front bumper, headlights misc brackets and lots of bolts I was able to get it up behind the "A" frame bracket in front of the radiator. Make sure if you go this route to put the rubber hoses and clamps on before installing because you will not be able to install the hose after. The bracket the holds the hood latch has openings that just happen to line up with the inside bolt holes on the cooler. Hoses facing down You will need to cut the bottom of the plastic out of the way to route the hoses under the frame. Cutting the original trans cooler line was easy and the rubber hose was long enough to make both connections so I did not need the adapter. If I used the adapter the rubber hose would be too short. On the bottom I used the foam pads between the cooler and the frame and secured it with heavy duty Zip ties. Can't wait to test it out this summer. I forgot to take pictures of the final install but did take one picture showing the "A" frame in the middle of the radiator. It fit's perfectly behind it.

2009 GMC Yukon XL towing a 7,800lb travel trailer from California to South Carolina.....
I don't believe the Yukon would have made this journey if it wasn't for the additional transmission cooler and engine oil cooler. Dragging the travel trailer through the mountains during the heat of the summer was taxing. However, my transmission never got above 190 F when it was over 100 F outside. Before installing the oil cooler AND transmission cooler, my engine temp would go to the 1-2 o'clock position and transmission temp would get up to 210 F. Highly recommend this product.

I recently had the chance to use the Derale 8000 series transmission cooler during my last camping trip and was very impressed. I have a 2001 7.3 Powerstroke with 4" exhaust, S&B intake, gauges and a DP Tuner (60hp tow). I pull a 10,000 pound 5th wheel around Colorado. It seems like every where I pull in Colorado is up hill. It was common to see my transmission temp easily and quickly reaching 210-220 when towing mountain passes. Just before my last trip I installed the Derale cooler and the highest trans temp I saw was 190 at the top of Wilkerson Pass. What is more impressive was how quickly the temp dropped as I came out of the pass. For most of my trip my trans temp stayed around 180. While pulling in the city I saw temps around 200 which I assume was due to stop and go driving and not having the constant airflow through the cooler.

I installed the cooler right behind the stock front grill to the vertical post with self tapping screws (the grill still fits perfectly). I then used two thin strips of metal that I got from the hardware store and secured them to the cooler and to the second vertical post. I wanted the cooler in the front of my truck to get maximum airflow. I then spray painted the metal strips black just for looks. I did have to buy an additional 4' of hose due to the location where I mounted the cooler. The optional instal kit was simple. The adaptors screwed in my radiator with no problem at all. Once I decided to mount the cooler the entire project was quick and simple.

by:

I installed the cooler last weekend in my 2008 Silverado. I've included some
pictures.
I made a strap to support the upper portion of the cooler and thru bolted
the lower to the existing bracket.
The hood bracket lower bolts had to be cut down to 1/4" length so they would
not contact the cooler.
The lower mount bolts had to be spaced to give the hood mount weld nuts
clearance.
Now to see how it does with a trailer and the Pacific Northwest hills.

Well constructed. Could use more hose for the install. I had to buy another length to install it. In the photo you can see I fabricated brackets for it so it would be able to get better airflow. Not noticing a real big difference in cooling but I’m anxious to see how it goes when I tow my 29 ft. TT with my 17 Suburban with a 5.3 ltr. I’ve been towing without one with no issues but any help in extending the life of the tranny is worth it.

Excellent. Keeps the tranny temp about 30 degrees cooler around 190 with the engine at 210when towing my tt. No leaks and works as it should.

by:

I installed this on my Toyota 1996 T-100 3.4: I picked up a piece of universal hangar strap, 2-8mmX1.25 bolts & lockwashers at building supply; 3 gal tranny fluid (flushing system including torque converter), 4' extra hose & extra clamps @ auto supply. I first mounted flange to central member with a couple screws; then bent 17-1/2" of the strap to pass the AC line ( the holes for the two bolts actually lined up to the two factory threaded holes available!!PTL). From there it's almost a done deal; hookup the cooler to the return side out of the radiator and let a half gallon at a time pump out till you get new fluid: then make up your return hose to the steel return line. It's oversize but this is FLA and it pulls. Heat is death to transmission fluid; and then the transmission! Good project.

Temps are down
15 to 25 degrees on test drive, No trailer. 105* heat index city, highway, a.c running
75mph 169-171* (factory 185*+)
55mph 165*
City stops 159*-163*
Idle after drive for 10 min in Sun 149*

Trimmed factory grill mount and welded on tabs, to put back in factory location (no picture of finished grill mount by itself) used factory holes on upper grill hood latch assembly. Only fault is u need to remove trans cooler to unbolt grill mount, but it's just a grill mount.

A year later all is perfect. Reworked my hose connections just to make it better. I haul my race car and gear so maybe 6000lbs my trans Temps have not seen over 190* maybe running 85mph up hill in 3rd gear for extended time it might hit 195* for a short time then after up shift it cools right back down on a hot humid summer day I plan to put a full aluminum radiator in to help just that much more.

  • 2001 F350 7.3 Powerstroke Best Auxiliary Transmission Cooler D13105 vs D13504
Hi Bill, if you are looking for the most cooling between those two, I would go with the Derale part # D13504. Even though the part # D13105 has a larger face area, the D13504 is a plate and fin style cooler, and that design is generally more efficient at pulling heat out of the fluid than a tube and fin cooler of similar size. So if your goal is to keep temps steadier on long grades while towing your 12K fifth wheel, the D13504 is the better choice. Since you are keeping the factory cooler...

  • Transmission Cooler for 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
It's definitely not abnormal for your transmission fluid to heat up while towing, especially when you're going up hills that force the truck to work a lot harder. To help with this adding a transmission cooler like you mentioned is a great idea. For your 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD I highly recommend the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan # D13960. This cooler will do a great job of improving the performance and function of your transmission with its reversible tornado...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation For 2008 GMC Sierra w/ 6.0L Engine For Towing
We can get your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD set up with a new auxiliary transmission cooler to get the lowest temperature possible when towing, and you're right that a smaller cooler won't provide the best temperature control. Because you cannot over-cool fluids, the rule of thumb with transmission coolers is that size matters so I recommend a large cooler from Derale, and you'll also need fittings: - Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504 - Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter...

  • Installing Derale Transmission Cooler to Replace OEM Cooler on 2007 Nissan Frontier SE
The Derale transmission coolers we sell are designed more as a supplemental cooler that is meant to augment the factory transmission cooler portion of the radiator, not replace it entirely. If you are experiencing the common problem with the radiator leaking causing the engine coolant contaminating the transmission fluid, your best bet really would be to have the original radiator replaced. I did a Google search using the keywords Nissan Radiator Problem and found that Nissan has extended...

  • Does Derale Transmission Cooler D13504 Fit 2015 GMC Yukon SLT
Hey Rob, we have confirmed with Derale that the transmission cooler part # D13504 does fit your 2015 GMC Yukon. You will also want the hose fitting adapter part # D13035 to make the install a bit easier as well. Will you be doing some towing?

  • Engine Oil & Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2011 Dodge Durango
The two coolers could easily fit together. Main reason is that the oil cooler kit part # D15450 that you referenced can be remote mounted basically anywhere since it comes with it's own fan. The transmission cooler part # D13504 would then need to mount in front of the radiator and fit easily.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2002 Chevy 2500HD Silverado with 4L80E
For the 4L80E transmission that is in your 2002 Chevy 2500HD Silverado we have supplemental transmission coolers that would work great in conjunction with the factory cooler or as a stand alone cooler if you are looking to bypass the factory cooler. The best option I could recommend for you would be a stacked plate style cooler like the part # D13403. This is the most efficient style of transmission cooler on the market that would work great for you. You would want to install the cooler...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 4.3L V6 Engine
In order to reduce the transmission fluid temperatures in your 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, I recommend using a transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504. Generally speaking, the best transmission cooler for you will be the largest one you have space available for in front of your radiator/condenser behind the grill. As long as you have 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep of space in this location, the transmission cooler will work well for...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2007 GMC Yukon Denali
The transmission cooler part # D13504 would be exactly what you need. This is a large cooler that would work well for your 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. I attached an install video that shows it being installed in a very similar 2009 Yukon as yours. Your engine temperature doesn't really seem that bad at all. But the transmission cooler will help slightly with that since it will allow the factory transmission cooler to run cooler as well which is connected to the radiator. Also the transmission...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500
No, it does not matter Brian. The Derale Series 8000 Plate & Fin Cooler item # D13504 uses a non-directional design. You can connect the transmission hoses to either of the two inlets, and fluid can flow in either direction without any impact it's performance. The Derale Series 8000 Plate & Fin Cooler item # D13504 is exactly what you need for a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. It's going to work with the V6 4.3L engine and the 5.3L or 6.2L V8 engine models. The cooler itself measures 11" wide...

  • Can An Auxiliary Transmission Cooler Be Installed On a 2020 Ford F-150 with10R80 Transmission
It is possible to install an auxiliary transmission cooler on a 2020 Ford F-150 with 10R80 Transmission. That said, the factory transmission cooler isn't where it normally would be, in front of the radiator. It's under the actual transmission so if you could find a way to splice into the lines here and run them to the front then you could install one like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler part # D13504.
