Does Derale Series 8000 Require Additional Adapters for 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated 03/28/2026 | Published 03/22/2026

Question:

I have a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, 5.3L V8, 4WD with the factory tow package. VIN is 3GCUKREC7HG330647. I want to order the D13504 and need to know if the included Insta-dapt adapter will work with my transmission cooler lines, or if I need a separate GM-specific adapter. If so, what is the exact part number I need and can I purchase it from you?

Hey Samuel! The factory transmission cooler lines on your 2017 Silverado 1500 use GM’s quick-connect fittings at the radiator, not threaded ports. Because of that, the Insta-dapt radiator adapter that comes with # D13504 will not fit your truck.

Instead, you’ll need the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035. This is designed to work with your factory fittings and lets you install the cooler without modifying your lines.

What are you towing with your Silverado?

Used this cooler with the quick connect on my 2019 Suburban 5.3 with no factory tow package. Works well and the quick connect fit perfectly. The biggest change came from a coolant bypass valve delete done by my transmission shop when doing a rebuild. Trans temps used to run 190+ now running 150-175. The bypass valve makes these 6 speed trans run too hot under load. The derale cooler adds what would have been normal with factory tow package.

Samuel I have had the recommended adapter for a couple of years now on my 17 Suburban LS with the 5.3 and it has worked well. No leaks and snapped right in. And because it has a flared end where you attach the rubber line with a hose clamp there’s no way for it to separate from the adapter.
