Is 210 Degrees to Warm for 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 6.2 liter To Run

Published 10/04/2018

Question:

I think I misstated my question, I meant for the transmission temperature. The tranmission gauge will get up to 210, is that to hot for transmission fluid?

210 degrees is actually very normal for your 2012 GMC Sierra with a 6.2 liter. The engine is designed to run that warm so I wouldn't worry about it at all. Trying to keep it cooler than that will not give you any type of advantage.

I see what you mean now, 210 degrees is a bit warm for a transmission. Keeping it under 200 is ideal. They say at 175 the transmission will last over 100,000 miles, at 200 degrees you get about 80,000 miles, at 225 degrees 40,000 miles, at 250 degrees about 20,000 miles. So your best option is to install a supplemental cooler like the Derale part # D13504. We install this exact cooler on trucks your size and it does a great job keeping the fluid nice and cool. I attached an install video for this cooler on a similar full-size GM SUV for you to check out.
