Will Kwikee Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The electric steps from Kwikee install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Kwikee In and Out

The Kwikee electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-7/8" wide and 14-5/8" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 24-3/4" wide to 37-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

Outriggers for RV Steps

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Kwikee Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays mounting bracket widths in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

These steps will be a perfect match to the original and will be installing them soon. Looking to to replacing the bent up, unrepairable and unsafe steps. Thank you ETRAILER for your expertise.

Robert C.

The steps have been working flawlessly and we love the automatic stow feature when going into gear. Great product!

Great fit, heavy, have a jack and maybe a helping hand or two.

Etrailer was easy to shop online, great price and fast shipping I ordered my kwikee step on Sunday and it was at my house on Tuesday. The installation was easy remove and replace using a small jack to hold the step in position. I did have an issue with the wire going to the motor, the retainer clip somehow was broken on arrival and would not hold the connector to the motor but a zip tie took care of that problem. The steps did not come with new magnetic switch so will have to order one separately the one on my rv was not working. Overall great shopping experience. Will shop here in the future.

The steps have worked perfectly and the installation was straight forward. The steps arrived fast and in like new condition. I look forward to doing business with your company in the future.

Bolt-on replacement. Some splicing required, mostly because whoever installed the last one added some unnecessary lights.

A challenge to lift into place, but I used a hydraulic auto jack to assist.

Only problem, the high current shutoff feature (when current increases, the control system shuts off the motor because increased current should mean the step reached the end of its travel) stops the steps prematurely. I'm hoping that as the steps wear in, this will stop happening. Until then, I need to provide a slight force upward when the steps retract to get them all the way up.

As a follow-up, no change. Step works but still stops prematurely.

After injury and age, getting in and out of a leveled RV is one high step. Having these steps reliably and sturdily come out each and very time needed is a big deal. I installed this on an older RV and for folks that have older RV's please note; the micro-switches in the the door frame are opposite of what are needed for today's control logic. As a result, I added a "Reversing relay" to create the proper signal from the door to have the steps operate as designed.

Salesperson was outstanding

I ordered electric steps in Feb and it was April 5th when I opened the box only to find that it was broken during shipping . I called that day and sent pics of the damage . etrailer said they would send replacement and it arrived today . I've never had such quick response. I want to thank you guys for handling this for me and I'll recommend yall to everyone that I can . Thanks again

I am 78 years old and removed the old step and installed the new one in about 4 hours. I have a 93 Safari that is in great shape and this makes it better.

Easy to find and order. Received in a very timely manner. Very happy with the product.

Good product, it was sometime before I had time to install it but all went well. It is such a relief knowing it is safe to step up or down. Thanks

After one year it has performed perfectly. I installed it myself as a complete unit

Super job guys . I will order again from yall .

Install went great. A direct bolt on for a 2005 Jayco Greyhawk 31SS.

The product came quickly and was just as advertised. Very HAPPY!!

  • Will the MORryde StepAbove Work With a Tiny Home That Has An Inward Opening Door?
Yes, however you won't be able to keep them installed when traveling since the MORryde StepAbove RV Steps for 21-3/4" to 22-1/4" Wide Doorways # MR86RR stows inside when not in-use. These steps would have to be unattached and stored somewhere else anytime you were going to move your home, and then re-attached whenever you arrived. If that doesn't bother you at all, then yes these'll work just fine with your tiny home and would serve as a great upgrade to any current step-situation. I...

You shouldn't need to replace the entire step assembly of your CoachStep, replacement parts should do the trick for you. As for the current replacement step, since CoachStep was discontinued some time ago, there isn't a specific replacement for these steps, you would need to measure the mounting bracket width and entry height. The 2-step unit that fits most closely is the Lippert # LC3726892 model. It is 25-7/8" wide so there would be a one inch gap on each side. Then it is designed for an entry height of 17-1/4" where as you have a 14-1/2" entry height. With that in mind, instead of having 6 to 8 inches from the bottom step to the ground,...
