Swagman Dispatch

The Dispatch lets you carry 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It has padded, ratcheting hooks and sliding wheel cradles with ratcheting straps so you can carry 2 bikes regardless of size, frame design, or suspension or brake style. An integrated lever lets you tilt the upright mast down for rear cargo access, and the low loading height reduces the strain of mounting your bikes for transport. It also has a locking system that secures your bikes to the rack and the rack to your hitch.

Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman Dispatch Ratcheting Hooks

Ratcheting hooks on the upright arm hold 2 bikes of varying sizes firmly by the top tubes. The padded hooks won't scratch or scuff your bike, and built-in locks let you secure the bikes to the rack. You can fold the upright arm when no bikes are on the rack for convenient access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Sliding Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Swagman Dispatch Adjustable Wheel Cradles

Sliding cradles with ratcheting straps hold your bikes in place by the wheels. The cradles easily adjust with hand knobs to accommodate bikes of different lengths.

Folding Design

Swagman Dispatch Folding Design

A spring-loaded lever at the base of the upright mast lets you lower it for access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Hitch Lock and Cable Lock

Hitch Lock And Cable Lock

The locking, threaded hitch pin and 10-mm, braided steel cable secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your hitch receiver. The cable threads through the frames of your bikes and the looped end of the cable fits around the hitch pin to lock your bikes to the rack. The threaded hitch pin also serves as an anti-wobble device to eliminate rattling in the receiver.

Video Transcript for Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Newmar Bay Star Bay Star Motorhome

Today on our 2016 Newmar Bay Star built on an F53 chassis we're going to be doing a test fit of the Swagman Dispatch platform-style 2-bike rack for RVs. That's part number S64684. It's specifically designed for RVs in that it has limited moving parts, so it's going to be a lot more stable here at the rear of your RV. It secures our bikes in three locations. We've got a frame hook going over our top tube putting down pressure on our bike into our front and rear cradles. Then we've got wheel straps. Now let's go ahead and take our bike off.

We'll start by undoing the straps. We'll press in on the little tab and then guide the strap out. Then we can raise up our hooks. We'll use our thumb to press in on the button, raise the front one up, and then the second one. Then we can just take our bike off. We do have one moving part; it's the center mast.

It folds down to the left, and we can stow it there when it's not being used. Or, if you've got it installed on your vehicle, you could use it to grant access to your rear hatch. Now we'll go ahead and give you some measurements. Overall, we've added about 29" to our Bay Star. For our clearance between, we've got about 6-1/2". For our ground clearance here at the very back we're looking at about 26".

Finally, for our ground clearance underneath we've got about 18-1/2". It secures into our receiver tube with an included anti-rattle bolt and lock. The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce a lot of play and rattle from our receiver and our bike rack to make a nice solid ride for our two bikes. The nice thing about the lock is it's going to prevent anyone from removing our bike rack from our receiver. That's going to complete our test fit of the Swagman Dispatch platform-style 2-bike rack for RVs, part number S64684, on our 2016 Newmar Bay Star built on an F53 chassis. Today on our 2016 Newmar Bay Star, built on an F53 chassis, we're going to be doing a test fit of the Yakima LongHaul hanging-style 4-bike rack for RVs. That's part number Y02476. It's specifically designed for RVs in that it has limited moving parts, so it's going to be a lot more stable here at the rear of your RV.

It secures our bikes in three locations. We've got two ZipStrips for our top tube and then one for our seat post tube. The one for our seat post tube is going to be our anti-sway. It's going to help prevent sway in the bike when we're on the road, as well as bike to bike contact and bike to RV contact. Let's go ahead and take it off. We'll squeeze in on the two tabs on the side and then pull out the ZipStrips. Then we can just take our bike off. Now let's go ahead and replace our ZipStrips. It's a perfect time to show you how easy they are to put on. They just slip right in. The only moving part we do have is our dual arms. If you're concerned about clearance here at the rear of your RV, they simply fold down. Or, if you've got it installed on your vehicle, it's ideal for pulling in your garage over night or a tight parking spot. Now we'll give you some measurements. With the arms folded down, we've got about 9" here at the rear. With the arms folded up, we've added about 34" to the rear of our RV. For our space between we're looking at about 5". Finally, for our ground clearance we've got about 18-1/4". It secures into our hitch with an included anti-rattle bolt and lock. The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce all that play and rattle within our receiver and our bike rack to make a nice solid ride for our bikes. The nice thing about the included lock is we don't have to worry about anybody removing our bike rack from our hitch. That's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima LongHaul hanging-style 4-bike rack for RVs, part number Y02476, on our 2016 Newmar Bay Star, built on an F53 chassis. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.

The jury is still out as to whether this rack holds up over time, but I can say that the assembly was simple (good instructions) and the mount seems very robust for two bikes. When mounted on the hitch on my trailer, the rack left plenty of clearance for the spare tire -- which had been a concern. If the rack holds up, especially when travelling off-pavement, I'd easily bump this to a 5 star. 556081

Excellent well built sturdy platform and easy to use! Simple assembly...I use it on the front of my Yukon XL as I tow a trailer . 360430

When I initially received this product, I discovered that the threads of the bushing in the receiver portion of rack had become damaged from the welding process. This caused the hitch bolt/pin to bind and ultimately shear off in the receiver, (see attached photos). Fortunately, I was able to work with Mr. Dave Bickell and he was able to send me a replacement part before my upcoming vacation. Again, thank you for all your help Dave. This rack has performed flawlessly on the back of a 2007 Winnebago View and has traveled to Acadia National Park in Maine, the White Mountains in New Hampshire and to the Everglades in Florida, (see attached photos). The rack and the bicycles remained perfectly secure in all instances and was subjected to interstate highways, secondary and unimproved alike. The bike rack is somewhat heavy, but, I think it needs to be. Thank you for the great product and the great customer service. 459520

Timely delivery in a sturdy box. All necessary parts included. Item appears to be very sturdy and well built. Nice heavy duty rack. Comes with very sturdy cable for securing and locking. This is going to, perfectly, meet our needs! Getting ready to install; very pleased thus far. 518871

Sent back the Swagman 2 bike rack because it was too flimsy and the bikes banged together. Bought the hitch-mounted rack and there is no comparison. Great quality and heavy duty. The wheel cradles and the ratchet-down frame holders make it a great carrier. Katie M was more than gracious in taking the first Swagman back and getting the second to me' 273651

I needed a Heavy duty bike rack that fits my RV and doesn't scratch up the bikes. This one works great and no scratches. I like the etrailer symbols that identify if the rack would work with an RV. I went in and out of several driveways (mine is steep) and the rack did not drag like my old crappy one did. I'm happy with this rack. 377459

Rack was easy to assemble, despite the terse instructions (no parts list, no mention of 3 different sized bolts and which to use at each step, no mention that holes were cut square on one side for the head of the carriage bolts). Someone who hasn't done much assembly could be very confused. It took a lot of experimentation to determine if we'd be able load our 2 bikes (one comfort bike with angled top tube, one short wheelbase recumbent). After about an hour, we found an arrangement that worked. The rack is quite sturdy and heavy. We haven't traveled with the rack yet, but we are pleased with the construction and think it will work well. When we leaned on the installed rack there was no wobble whatsoever. The bikes were solidly held in position. We can't open the rear doors on our Sprinter van because of interference from the wheel cradles. We plan to remove the small screws placed near the ends of the bars to prevent the cradles from coming off, then come up with another system to secure them that allows for easy removal. 392298

We use this bike rack on our 2016 Winnebago Navion motor home. I found assembly very straightforward. It has shown highly satisfactory performance and stability on bumpy roads. It is easy to get our bikes off and back on. We are very satisfied, and feel this is an excellent product, worth the price we paid. We also greatly appreciated the quick shipping! 275329

I have put this bike rack together. It appears to be perfect. I just received it a couple days ago and have not used it yet. The first Swagman i ordered did not lock to your receiver. Also it was not compatible with RVs. This one appears to be the perfect fit also I believe it will fit in both a 2in receiver on a fifth wheel ,and a 2 1/2 inch receiver which is what I need 546737

Had to switch the J-hooks to accommodate my wife's small bicycle but both bikes were well secured. I was impressed by the quality - just wish the J hooks were also adjustable like the tire supports are! We use this on the rear of our 26 ft. Class C Phoenix Cruiser RV motorhome. 401017

The reason for this purchase was to find a bike platform rack that would work on both a 2017 Subaru Outback (mounted on 2" Class III EcoHitch) and a 2012 Roadtrek Popular 190 RV. The Subaru was not an issue, but the Roadtrek required a minimum of 14" clearance from hitch pin hole to the forward most point on the rack in order to clear an aft mounted (left side) spare tire. This rack fits the bill. The rack is much heavier than I though it would be, but I finally figured out how to carry it from one vehicle to another. Initially, installing the bikes is not as easy was it looks. However, after trying several different options and adjusting the wheel cradles properly, the bikes fit just right without any contact with each other or the spare tire housing. I have not driven the vehicles with the bikes yet, but I am very satisfied with the fit and stability of the rack. 446361

- S64684
by:

The assembly was straight forward and not to difficult. I have not used the rack yet but do have some concerns about the ground clearance on the back of the motor home. Hopeful it will not be a issue with gutters when leaving parking lots. 431347

With a ground clearance issue on this bike rack I recommend part # D210
Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs
$46.13
. The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount will not reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch and will give you a rise of 3-9/16. Just be careful not to exceed the 750 lb tongue weight capacity on the receiver portion of the ball mount.

Wow! We have a 17’ Casita and Decided to seek professional assistance in finding the right bike rack. After speaking with a great representative a few days ago, our bike rack arrived today. My husband and I put it together in less than 45 minutes! The bikes were pretty easy to put on and take off. More importantly, this is a very sturdy rack and the bikes seem quite stable! 505338

I have to park my 5th wheel in a space restricted space and I knew I would have to remove the bike rack after every trip. So, I began looking for the lightest weight, RV approved Swagman bike rack I could find that had the weight rating I needed for my heavy bikes. I have other Swagman products and feel like they offer good quality for a reasonable price. I considered the Swagman Traveler XCS (S64664), but my bikes were right at the upper weight limit for the Traveler, so I called Swagman. They said they had seen some failures of the wheel loops above the weight limit; so I went with the Swagman Dispatch (S64684). I'm glad I did. It's well made and seems conservatively rated. Easy to put together. It weighs 53 lbs, but is not really cumbersome to load since there is a lot to grab onto when it is unfolded. If you can pick up and load the bikes, then you shouldn't have any problem with the hitch. I especially like the threaded hitch pin that eliminates hitch wobble. The rack is easy to assemble. The ratcheting hooks work well, but took me a while to figure out the bike orientation/hook orientation/wheel position that worked the best for the rack. Good clearance between the bikes and camper and good ground clearance between the ground and the rack. This rack is solid as a rock and I don't see any movement while traveling. Pictures are with the anti theft cable in place. 425717

This Swagman bike rack assembled in a few minutes. The bike rack provides extremely stable support of our bikes on the back of our 5th wheel camper. I have full confidence that the bikes are secure and safe. I am very pleased with these components and would recommend for any camper installation. Installation on back bumper required moving the spare tire to the left of center to mount the bike rack to the back bumper of the camper using the Swagman 2" clamp on trailer hitch receiver (S64025). The Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack extends to provide ample room for the spare tire and clearance for the bikes. Because of the design of my wife's step through bike frame we had to add the Swagman bike frame adaptor (64005) to hold the bike in the vertical position. 353937

I have an extremely low trailer (a 1966 Aristocrat LoLiner to be exact) and I was concerned about finding the right bike rack that wouldn't scrape on the ground when we drive in and out of driveways. This model turned out to be perfect- even when put on a very old, low, rickety old trailer! It is very easy to put the bikes on, we have both a large men's mountain bike and a small women's road bike, both went on in a snap. My favorite feature is the lock system that is included which locks the bikes to the hitch and the hitch to the receiver. I would absolutely recommend this product. Thank you to the staff member at etrailer who advised me of the perfect trailer-rated rack! 659356

Rare to find a product that exceeds expectations. Swagman bike rack is such a product. Probably have had 5 different bike racks over the years and none worked for us. Swagman holds bikes steady, hasnt deteriorated and would buy again. 642301

We found this bike rack to be easy to assemble. It appears to be very sturdy, which also means it is pretty heavy and somewhat difficult to move from one vehicle to a another by myself. We haven't used it on our travel trailer yet, but anticipate that it will be just what we needed. 628072

customer service informed me well after the order was placed that the unit was back ordered... turned out nearly a month or so...not great to but ok. then when the order did arrived, the box had been opened and was in very rough shape.. ie moisture damage, holes and major disintegration and had been repacked. amazingly all parts seem to be there, though some in less than brand new condition. after all, the unit went together fine(very straightforward assembly) and seems sturdy as one would expect for an rv approved platform rack and the cosmetic damage isn't worth the hassle of correcting. 566798

We just got back from a 3,200 mile 31 day trip hauling two fairly heavy bikes. This bike rack locks down like a pitbull on a rabbit. With the ratchet top hooks and the lower wheel straps there is zero bike movement and getting the bikes on and off is a snap -literally. On top of that the threaded draw bar pin keeps bouncing to a minimum. Yes it's expensive. But I always say "You don't always get what you pay for, but you don't get what you don't pay for" I'd buy it again without a doubt. 494617

I bought the Swagman Dispatch after asking for help choosing the best rack for my Navion RV. I am glad I didn't go to my local bike shop and purchase a regular hitch-mount rack! I had no idea it needed to be RV rated for extra torque. Thank you so much for the quick response. It arrived yesterday and we'll mount it for our trip from NY to MT. We bought new mountain bikes and the ladder rack just doesn't cut it...don't want to bang up my new ride! 394501

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Why is the Swagman XC Not Okay to Use With an RV
  • The reason why some bike racks and cargo carriers are rated for use at the rear of an RV or Trailer and others are not has to do with the fact that the ride is a lot more rough. Since there is more distance from the rear axle to the trailer hitch receiver on an RV or Trailer as opposed to a passenger vehicle, there is a lot more play. Because of this, manufacturers will test and approve which bike racks or cargo carriers can be used at the back of an RV or Trailer. The Swagman XC 2-Bike...

  • Recommended 2-Bike Platform Style Hitch Bike Rack for Use on 30-Foot Trailer
  • You are correct that any bike rack that will be used on the back of a trailer or other RV must be strong enough to withstand the extra vertical and lateral stress forces found at the back of such vehicles. There are extra stresses on RVs due to the greater distance between the rear axle and the hitch tube; this greater distance translates into more leverage applied to the rack, and so RV racks are built to be extra-sturdy. • Only certain bike racks are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer but the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z bike rack is not one of them. Generally, any rack that can fold or tilt, with few exceptions, won't be rated for this applications. The reason is that there is significantly more movement at the back of an RV or trailer due to the distance from the rear axle to the end of the vehicle/trailer and/or because the suspension is not as effective in many cases as a passenger vehicle. • Thule's hitch-mounted Doubletrack Pro Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack # TH9054 will fit into either 1-1/4-inch or 2-inch hitches. Your 2016 BMW X1 can be fitted with the 2-inch Class III type which will provide a substantial weight-carrying capacity, plenty for the weight of this rack and your two loaded bikes. The hitch I recommend for your X1 (if it does not already have one) is the less-costly option, Draw-Tite # 76018. Installation of this hitch on an X1 is shown in the linked video which...

  • Carrying Bikes at the Front of a Travel Trailer
  • You could use the Swagman Straddler # S80503 if you want to. However you have to stay within the capacity of the Straddler which is 100 pounds. That means the combined weight of the bike rack you use and the bikes cannot exceed 100 pounds. The Swagman Dispatch # S64684 weighs about 51 pounds by itself meaning the combined weight of the bikes cannot exceed 49 pounds. You could instead go with Swagman rack # S64663 which weighs about 30 pounds. You would not use the hitch part that comes...

  • Recommended RV And Front Hitch Mounted Bike Rack
  • If you are looking for a 2 bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # S64684. This rack holds bikes at the wheels as well as at the frame for a very controlled ride. This rack is designed for RV use, so it is sturdy and it comes with an anti-rattle hitch lock and cable to secure your investment. If you are looking for more bikes or a hanging rack option, I recommend the Yakima LongHaul 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Silver # Y02476. This is a heavy...

  • Recommended 2-Bike Hitch Rack for SUV and Sprinter RV
  • Hitch bike racks rated for RV use typically do not offer a tilt function as they need to be as strong as possible to withstand the stresses found at the rear of an RV. A hinged tilting mechanism would tend to weaken the overall rack structure. But some of our available RV racks do disassemble or fold for more convenient storage and vehicle access. For instance, the Swagman Escapee 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64693, which includes locks both for the rack and for your two bikes, features solid...

  • Can Swagman Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack # S64663 be Mounted Below RV Bumper
  • I spoke with my contact at Swagman about the possibility of mounting the bumper bracket for the Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack # S64663 so that the receiver is below the RV bumper. He said that while they have heard of customers doing this, they do not recommend it as the bracket has not been tested in this manner. If you have a 4 inch square bumper on your RV then another option is to first mount the Buyers Products RV Universal Receiver Hitch # 3371804060, which has been tested and rated...

  • RV Bike Rack Recommendation for Use When Flat Towing Vehicle
  • At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. The Swagman Dispatch part # S64684 is a great RV approved bike...

  • How to Carry Electric Bike and Cruiser Bike on Trailer or RV
  • We do have a great selection of RV/trailer approved bike racks available, however the Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier # LA-102 that you referenced isn't going to be your best option. This particular rack features a weight capacity of just 25 pounds per bike, which likely falls under the weight for both your electric and standard cruiser bike. For your two bikes, I instead recommend going with a hitch-mounted rack that will provide stronger support for your investments. If you are putting...

  • Recommended Front Mounted Bike Rack For Ford E450 Van Chassis
  • We do offer several types of bike carriers designed and rated for use on the front of an RV, including the platform style such as the Swagman Dispatch # S64684. This carrier features a folding upright mast that allows you access to the vehicle cargo area when the rack is unloaded. All RV-rated bike racks for 2-inch hitches are shown on the linked page. The Swagman Dispatch # S64684 is a great choice for an RV rack. It includes locks for both the rack itself and your loaded bikes; its...

  • Bike Rack for a 2017 Winnebago ERA 70M with Offset Spare Tire
  • I have a recommendation for you, however the Yakima LongHaul, part # Y02476 will not be a good pick for your application. I've attached a video review of the Yakima LongHaul that shows its installation a little clearer. The Yakima Longhaul only sits 11-1/2 inches away from the hitch pin hole, so its unlikely it will clear your spare tire if its furthest point is 15-1/2 inches. Additionally, its never recommended to exceed the per-bike weight capacity of any bike rack, especially on...

  • Best Bike Rack to Use with a Class C Motorhome and a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • The Thule Doubletrack, part # TH9054 is not rated for RV use. Most racks that are folding, tilting or are rated for a Class 1 hitch aren't sturdy enough to take the increased forces that occur on the back of an RV. Instead, I recommend the Swagman Escapee, part # S64693 or Dispatch, part # S64684. Both are platform racks rated for use with an RV, and have a few differences that may matter to you depending on the type of bikes you have. The Escapee is a newer rack with a 60lb...

  • Recommended Bike Cover for Use on a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • The bike bag that will work with the Yakima TwoTimer # Y02468 is the Swagman Horizontal Style 2 Bike Bag # S82006. I spoke with my contact at Swagman who said that this is compatible with typical platform-style bike racks like the TwoTimer. This bag is actually only rated for use behind RVs (not passenger vehicles) so it is perfect for your 5th wheel camper. Please not that although the bike bag is rated for use behind a 5th wheel trailer, the TwoTimer is not. Yakima has not approved...

  • Swagman Bike Rack for an RV Towing Setup
  • Bike racks like the Swagman XC, part # S64650 that are not rated for RV use are generally can't handle the increased sway and rock that an RV experiences. This is largely caused by the distance between the rear axle and the trailer hitch. RV Rated racks tend to be built with sturdier designs and heavier materials to be able to withstand this sway. Many of them will not have tilt or fold away features on them to help withstand this motion. I recommend avoiding the use of the dual-hitch...

  • Best Platform Bike Rack for an RV Trailer
  • Your two best options for a platform rack are the Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike rack, part # S64684 and the Swagman Escapee 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # S64693. Both of these racks are rated for RV use and are wheel mount racks. They both also include integrated hitch and cable locks for the bikes, increasing the security of the rack. The Swagman Dispatch is unique for an RV rack as it can fold up behind the RV and this saves space when parking the RV between trips or if you need to run...

  • Recommended Bike Rack For RoadTrek Zion RV With Double Rear Doors
  • RV compatible bike racks do not have the ability to tilt for cargo access and the Thule Roadway you mentioned is not an RV-rated bike rack. They have to be more durable because of the location on the back of an RV, so the features like tilt are not a viable option. Your best option for access is to use a platform rack and remove the bikes. For this I recommend the Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # S64684 that has a folding mast where the bikes are held by the frame...

  • Replacement Frame Hook for Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack
  • The only option we have for you to replace the long frame hook on your Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack part # S64684 is to use the Replacement Long and Short Hooks part # SP428. This option does however come with locks so it will be like adding a new feature to your bike rack. Unfortunately, we don't offer the standard long hook separately from the above kit.

  • Bike Rack Compatibility with Motorhome While Flat Towing a 2015 Kia Soul
  • The Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64684 will be about 33 inches from the hitch pin hole to the farthest point of the rack. You will need to measure your tow bar to see how much actual clearance that will give you for turning clearance. This rack does have a shank rise of 6-1/4 inches, so that will possibly help with hood clearance as well. I recommend using a shank like the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 10" Drop/Rise...

  • Best 2-Bike Platform Bike Racks for 5th Wheel Trailer
  • The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 # HR200Z can be used on any passenger vehicle and on a motorhome, but not on a travel trailer or 5th wheel. The reason why some bike racks should not be used on 5th wheels is that there is extra motion at the hitch on such vehicles. There is typically a much greater distance from the rear axle to the hitch on a 5th wheel trailer than on a passenger vehicle. This extra distance translates into more motion at the hitch as the trailer moves around on the...

  • Solution for Carrying Hitch Bike Rack and Flat Towing Vehicle
  • Roadmaster makes the dual hitch adapter part # RM-077-4 which gives you two hitch openings. The one on the top for carrying a bike rack and the one below for flat towing a vehicle. I attached a picture of the adapter being used on an RV like yours with a tow bar and bike rack installed. For a bike rack you'll need an RV approved bike rack like the Swagman Dispatch part # S64684 which would be a great solution.
