Video Transcript for Pro Series Q-Slot Hitch Bike Rack Test Course

Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curve or pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action.

This will be like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage or driveway. .

I look forward to my first use of this new rack--so much more convenient that the old one which required hanging our bikes inverted from the wheels. I'm impressed by the thickness of the steel in the main components. The welds seem to be of high quality, too. I plan to supplement the velcro straps with a ratchet strap around our two bikes in the middle, encircling the carrier too and drawing the bikes firmly down into the wheel cradles. It remains to be seen if the "wingnuts" loosen as some have said they did. I oiled them to ensure that they would tighten easily and firmly. I also added "leashes" of nylon cord to the bail pins so they wouldn't be misplaced. The ground clearance is greater than my old rack, and the tilt down feature is great! We do rail trails and the ability to load up and move to the next section of trail so easily and quickly will be excellent. We're older and not having to boost our two bikes up onto the old rack repeatedly will be a great improvement. This rack will fold up for storage in a much smaller space, too. My only negative observation would also explain why some said the bikes rock from side to side, even though the threaded receiver pin works great (although not with the supplied wrench which would not access it with my particular receiver's safety chain loop design.) The square portion of the carriage bolts supplied to attach the shank to the support tube assembly "bottomed" on the shank before the actual bolt head pulled down on the center bracket of the support tube assembly. With the shank firm in the receiver and the hardware tightened firmly, there was still motion between the support tube assembly and the shank so that bicycles would be able to rock slightly. I put a thick flat washer which was larger than the square portion of the carriage bolt head between the carriage bolt head and the support tube assembly, reassembled everything and tightened the hardware and the looseness and motion were gone. (These should either be supplied with different hardware or the top hole in the shank should also be broached square to accomodate the depth of the carriage bolt head's square portion.) With the carriage bolt now able to exert good pressure on the bracket, everything is amazingly rigid. So far I'm very pleased with the product and its design (aside from the one caveat above) and if it works out as well as I expect we'll get much good use and satisfaction from it. You can't go wrong for the price! 431730

Good rack for the price. I saw some of the other reviews regarding the hardware, and tightening the knobs, and I am sure that this will eventually be an issue with this rack since I've had very similar racks from Performance Bike, and the plastic knobs have broken when the insert in the plastic comes loose when you tighten the knobs to the necessary tightness. The solution is to buy some 5/16-18, very wide, steel wing nuts (Zoro G0361094). You need six for a two bike rack. I also have a Thule cargo box where the plastic knobs with a threaded insert have broken, so the problem is not limited just to off-brand products. Check the tightness of the fasteners often since they do tend to loosen from vibration. If you always carry the same bicycles, and don't need to adjust the spacing of the wheel holders then you can put some medium strength thread-lock on the bolts for the wheel tray. The assembly of this rack requires a socket wrench because two of the bolts can't be reached with a regular wrench. The eTrailer SR2901 is the same as the Perfomrance XPORT version of this rack and it has leashes for the pins so they don't get lost., but the pins are different and lock by turning them, rather than by the spring clip that goes over the pin. This rack lacks leashes so I made some from wire and heat shrink tubing. The SR2901 also has plastic anti-rattle shims where the pieces fold. Note that this rack is not suitable for carbon-fiber (CF) frame bicycles because the hooks need to push down hard on the top tubes, and this will damage CF bicycles. For CF bicycles you need to support the bicycle only by the wheels, not the frame, and e-trailer has several hitch racks that are suitable, but they are a lot more expensive. The rack is all steel, so it's pretty heavy. The UPS guy carried the rack and the hitch together and handed them to me and I about keeled over. Don't leave the rack on the car when it is not in use. If someone rear-ends you, even not that hard, the rack transfers the force of the blow through the hitch to the frame or body of the vehicle, your bumper will not be hit. This happened to me many years ago and it caused significant damage, I had to have a new floor welded in. 426396

I never put anything excellent, so good is good. First I will say it was easy to put together 5 minutes maybe. Took longer to get out of box than put together. A 5 year old can do that part. Set up for the bikes was easy. About a minute or so fer each bike. Reason I bought this was because my wife's bike is a step-through and requires a bike beam which I do not like to use. They do fail on rough roads. This should do fine. Looks like the steel is heavy enough and the welds look good. I will still use a bungee strap to secure the bikes. Just don't trust everything. 2 Items I do not like. First is the plastic 1 1/4 to 2 adapter. I believe it will work fine but is it fails I can always buy a metal one for $10. The second is the pin used to secure to the hitch is not the same diameter all the way through. But then this is used to keep vibrations and noise down. Will see how it works over time on rough roads I guess. But over all looks good. 128629

The bike rack fits great. We had to wait a while for a company to make a reese hitch for the 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The bikes ride great just a little wobble. We had a little concern with the heat from the exhaust exiting in the middle of the rack. There is no problem with the heat. We are still able to handle the rack after transporting the bikes at any distance. There was no heat transferred to the bikes at while moving. We still would watch the heat to the bikes if we were caught in a traffic jam for any length of time. 94983

This rack will be used to transport a road bike with a flat top tube and a mountain bike with sloped top tube. When first assembled, the pivots give the impression of being very loose and wobbly. After loading a bike onto the rack and securing it per the instructions, everything becomes very solid and stable. There is very little movement of the rack when driving over broken pavement and uneven roads. The bike is very secure. The wheel hoops are substantial, the straps are robust. The product works well. 221995

I still use the bike rack. It works well and after finally figuring out balance points for the different bikes, im more than satisified with it.

This product is a total waste of money. I used it once and the plastic knobs used to tighten the bikes in place are very shoddy. They broke in my hands when I tried to tighten them. They must be very tight or else the bars that go over the bike frame will pop up and your bike will spill onto the road. After it broke, the bolts were exposed and I could not find a wrench that was skinny enough to loosen it up. I ended up using a vice grip. I had bought extra knobs at a local harward store and they too broke. This product just requires too much strength to tighten everything and be secure. I do not recommend this product to anyone, ever. I am very disappointed as etrailer said I could not return the product of a full refund because I bought it back in June (I first used the rack on October 1) even though I only used it one. So now I am stuck with this rack and have to carry a wrench with me everytime I use it. It also takes a considerable amount of time to use the wrench to loosen and tighten everything. I have to stop driving everynow and then and check the rack and retightening everything. What a pain to deal with. 25234

This rack is so close to good but has some seriously fatal flaws- as mentioned by others, it is impossible to hand tighten the hooks that keep the bikes attached to the rack. I bought a rachet to be able to safely keep my bike on the rack. The fifth time I used the rack the carriage bolt turned in the holder and striped out the holder rendering it worthless. I replaced it with a standard bolt and now have to carry two wrenches to keep my bikes on the rack. The bikes WILL fall off if you don't use a tool to tighten the hooks. At this point i have completely removed all the hardware that came with the rack hooks and replaced it with my own bolt and a series of washers. It does work, but if you're not a diy-er don't even think about buying this rack. The plastic wheels that keep the wheel holders to the rack are also a major pain to tighten. You won't have to do this every time, but when i have to make adjustments there is always cursing involved. Take my advice- spend a few more bucks and get a better quality rack. I've already spent the difference on tools and hardware, and the rack is still a pain to use. 45067

This rack was assembled very quickly and easily (about 15 min, but expect to use your own tools, the ones they included were useless). It fit very snugly in my 1/4 hitch. I have two minor complaints, those being: the vertical post has too much movement, even with the linchpin inserted; the second is that I wish the arms that hold the top rail of the bike down, were curved more. I think they would be more secure if the were a true "J" shape. Great value for the price. I'm very pleased with this rack. 269885

I chose this particular rack because Im cheap. I admit it, I also admit that I do not buy anything without reading reviews first. The reviews for this rack were great so I figured I would give it a shot. etrailer.com were awesome, I purchased a hitch a couple weeks before and they noticed that so they shipped the bike rack the same day as a thank you for being a returning customer. Thank you. Now for the rack. This rack is nice and solid. I expected the wheel chocks to be cheap metal anywhere from 1/4 to 3/8th stock but they ended up being 1/2 which is super nice. For the price and type of rack, this thing is nice. I almost regret not going for the 4 bike setup. If youre like me where reviews and price matter I would 100% suggest this rack to you. I also bought a hitch lock to bring my total up to the $150 free shipping threshold. My only suggestion would be to ship at a reduced rate rather than getting it out a day sooner for return customers. I would rather save a few bucks than receiving it here a day sooner. 53686

So far, so good. I've driven with this holding 27.5 and 24 inch mountain bikes for about 20 miles. The rack was simple to assemble and once I got the trailer hitch installed, it was a piece of cake to put on the car (2014 Fiesta Hatchback). The hatch can be opened without having to move the vertical bar as long as there are no bikes on it. The only issue I have so far are the straps that go over the wheels, they're velcro. I would have preferred the rubber ones but we'll see how these hold up. 222608

This is a great value compared to some of the name brand bike racks. This is a light duty rack and not for use in "off-road situations" according to the manual. It may be best suited for local use verses long-distance vacations, for example. I recommend using a Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap - Bike Rack Strap with Cambuckle Item # 18050 on etrailer.com. I wish I had ordered one of these when I got the rack to save shipping. I use one of these straps on another rack I own - works fine. We first used this new rack without a stabilizer strap and it was fine on the back of a 2015 Subaru Forester with a 2" hitch setup - drove about 25 miles round trip at speeds up to 60 mph. I got this rack for my wife to use with her step-through bike, so that she could just set it on the outside position of the rack. It's advisable to secure the outside bike with a safety cable or similar device should the rack loosen up. The restraining feature adjusts down to the bike frame, then tightens up with a threaded hand knob. 462739

Great produce at an excellent price. All parts needed for assembly included with detailed instructions. Easy assembly. I do have two negatives about the rack. First, due to the design with the different hinges and pins, the rack seems a bit shaky and wobbly going down the road loaded. Despite that, it is very secure and I am comfortable with my bike on this rack. The other negative is that somehow the frame hooks got squeezed together too much somewhere in the manufacturing or packaging process. Right out of the box they would not fit over the upright rail. I had to beat on them with a hammer to open them up to go on. Now that they are on, I love this rack. Would definitely purchase again from etrailer! 38544

This race is very nice and it holds the bike on very nicely. I purchased a rack last week when I got my new bike but had to stop 3 times on the way as it did not hold the bike secure and I thought it was going to fall off. I have no worries with the ps63134 . The hooks were to tight and would not slide on the the up and down bar. I had to spread them just a little to get them on and for them to slide but the wheel loops were also to tight and would not slide on but I could just spread them a little and they work GREAT. I'm very happy and very pleased with this rack it is really the first one I have owned for a hitch mount. My local bike shop has a rack that is similar to yours other than it had teeth like the old bumper jack it might be a step up from yours but it was 279.00 dollars but to be honest I very glad to have found yours and again I'm very happy with it. 35388

Brilliant product! It took me less than 15 minutes to put it together and it is nso easy to put the bikes on. I had a "T" bar type rack but my wife go a new ladies bike and that those not work with the T type rack. It's easy to put on and take off and folds nicely for storage. 138865

Delivery was a day late but no fault of etrailer. The box was also banged up pretty good and I was worried about the condition of the bike rack. The only damage was the plastic cap on the upright tube. The bike carrier is great for the money and will test it out tomorrow. I am going to use additional bungee cords to hold bike to carrier as it seems a bit wobbly. Great company and product but shipping company abused it. See photos below. 422284

This rack is adequate but not excellent. I made two trips to Florida and back, one in 2012 and one in 2013. I used rope and straps to reduce some of the sway and wobble but here is where I particularly recommend the ropes or straps. The tightening knob on the hook that goes down over the crossbar of a bicycle needs be tight but I WOULDNT RELY JUST ON ITS TIGHTNESS to secure the bicycle on the rack especially on a long trip. If you get this rack, I would use ropes or straps to make sure the hook remains in place even if the knob should loosen.

Easy to assemble and install. Appears to be sturdy enough. Wheel straps are a little short for tires/wheels so will need longer. 237835

I really like my new bike rack. Having a RAV 4 has been challenging getting a bike rack that fits well. To add to the challenge, I have a women's comfort bike that is difficult to hang properly. With regular racks, the front wheel hangs too low to the ground and when I would come out of a steep hill the front wheel would drag. I thought it was something I had to live with until I saw this rack. My husband installed it easily and I was on my way without fear that my wheel would drag. It feels very secure and I am not constantly looking in the rear view mirror to see what my bike is doing. Also, free shipping rocks. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. 246931

Pros: It gets the job done. Cons: VERY difficult to get the plastic wingnuts tight enough to prevent slippage of both the wheel cradles and the bike frame holders. I have to use a large adjustable wrench on these. Since I carry the same bike, the wheel cradles only require one instance of that process, but the bike frame holder must be moved up/down each time the bike is unloaded/reloaded. There is also a lot of play at each junction point - at the trailer hitch, and each hinge point of the rack itself. This allows for a lot of overall wobble, but doesn't seem to cause any problems so far. It may be normal for racks of this type. 16570

My newly acquired e-bike is pretty heavy so I can't use my trunk mounted rack on my car. In addition I am not strong enough to lift it onto my current rack. The Q-Slot Platform Style 2 Bike Rack is solid enough to hold my bike secure and also low enough for me to lift it onto the wheel cradles. Most of the time I'll use it for only one bike so I didn't install the parts for a second bike. This makes it easier (lighter) to put into the hitch. In fact, if I get weaker as I get older (I'm 76) I can use a piece of wood for a ramp to wheel my bike onto the rack. I tried it already and it works! This is a great rack for the price. 434194

We love it - very easy to assemble, no issues at all. Holds the bikes well, seems sturdy - great value from what we can tell as we shopped around other places prior to this purchase. We needed one for our motorhome and are pleasantly surprised. We read other reviews (after ordering ours) prior to the arrival, and took into consideration the pros and cons of those we read. Again, we had no issues, easy to follow instructions, very easy to assemble, quick assembly, seems sturdy enough for 2 bikes. Did see slight "wobble" that was mentioned in a couple review, however is easy fix if you feel the need. Again, we are very pleased. 254949

First off, very fast shipping from etrailer.com. Just returned from a 1,300 mile trip. The bike rack worked great. The rack was attached to a factory installed hitch on a 2010 Honda Pilot. The Pilot does not allow much room to insert the hitch pin into the hitch bolt, the included hitch pin was too big and could not be inserted to the hitch bolt. Just go to your local hardware store and buy a smaller hitch pin for 50 cents. We have two cruiser style bikes, mens and ladies, each weighing about 42 pounds. I wish we bought a bike rack years ago, exploring on bikes is a great way to go. 416822

As they say, "you get what you pay for. This is an excellent example. For what I paid, I got a mediocre piece of equipment. I have a 2" receiver, and the adapter is a piece of hard plastic that goes over the bar. I expect that to last a year or two. The entire rack shakes and vibrates more than I should think is acceptable. Do not buy this for long distance travel, I wouldn't. We are using these carriers for short trips, less than 50 miles. All I can say is that I hope this will last until I can save for a Thule, and you definitely get what you pay for, for that carrier! 94280

I received my bike rack in a timely manner/4 days. Using the instruction booklet was very simple with good pictures and not a lot of confusing parts. I really like the fact the I put it all together,by myself in less than an hour,to see how it would look on my vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, that I could lift my bike on myself. Also i could use it for only one bike, and take the rack off easily if didn't need it. I am 71 years old and my bike is a one speed, old Beach Comber, so it worked out just fine and at a great price.!!! Thanks! 220891

Low price, fast ship, easy to put together. A bit heavy compared to other deluxe bike carriers. Great for odd shaped and female bike frames. I would recommend without reservation. This web site gets 5 stars as well. Easy to navigate with great pictures and reviews to make buying decisions with confidence. 2012 corolla, this rack keeps the bike tires high enough to exit steep driveway. Note , I do have to bungee the in board bike pedal in the up position to keep it away from the bumper. 425586

This bike rack is great! We have had it for a year now with no problems. It's easily adjustable and can fold down (when no bikes are on it) to open the back of your vehicle door. We have two different height bikes and both sides adjust individually. The rack is easy on and off. The only minor issue we've had is with the Velcro strip that wraps around the tires to secure it at the bottom. They can wear out but replacements are easy to find and you could really use anything for that. 268240

I received the bike rake on Thursday, and we used it on Saturday. The instructions were clear, the product did exactly what I wanted it to do,,,I can honestly say I would recommend this product, I would recommend the shipper, and the etrailer company. its kinda refreshing to have a company do what they said they would. Well done keep up the good work, hopefully Directv and a few credit card companies can look at this company and take some notes. PEACE out ! 95602

Just what I needed. I use this bike rack to carry my beach cruiser and BMX style bikes with me. It is easy to assemble and easy to install. Loading bikes on-and-off is fairly easy as well. Those are the 'pros'. The only 'con' I have for this rack is that the adjustment knobs have to be turned really hard to get them completely tight to where they wont move, its not impossible just a little tough. But once they are in place you know your bikes are secure. 3933

this is the 2nd bike trailer of this style that I've purchased. I was very happy with the 1st. I lost one knob so I gave it to my brother and bought a new one. Mistake! This is very flimsy metal. Not the same quality at all. I'm always a little scared I'll loose my bike and I have a lightweight bike! Totally nervous to take 2 bikes. It's also really wiggly. I should have kept my old one and replaced the knob with a nut and bolt. 265245

I originally was given a Pro Series Q-Slot Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack and it was a solid piece of equipment. Unfortunately someone rear-ended me with the rack on and bent it, so she paid for a new one. For some reason, the newer one was/is not as solid as the first one. It's a little more flimsy and wobbles more, but it is light weight and easy to use and I would get another one if this one ever needs replacing. 447907

Received my order quickly, very pleased with my purchase. Straight forward instructions and assembled quickly. Took 2 bikes out today, a trek and my cruiser. They are both girls bikes so I had the trek stabilizer turned upside down and used as a hook. Worked great! I did use a couple bungees for insurance, but overall, I am very pleased. Would recommend this product. Also appreciate the friendly customer service. 29925

First of all - the price is great. Also, I selected this bike rack because I cannot lift my bike up very high due to some back issues. And that aspect of the bike rack is perfect also. The only issue I have is that the tongue of the hitch moves somewhat within the hitch itself which makes me nervous as the bikes rock back and forth with it. I use bungees to secure the bikes in just as an additional measure. 287563

Much better than expected....almost no assembly, clear simple instructions and easy to load bikes. Rack folds up into a compact easy to store unit. Have brought from etrailer before and great service as usual! 403817

The two padded v-shaped clamps that hold the bikes down rubbed the paint off my brand new bikes. The first trip I didn't have the clamps snug enough so they rode up leaving a gap. so on the way back I tightened them down more (nothing crazy). I didn't notice the damage until I Got home. The foam that is supposed to protect my paint was worn off. My wife's bike had two worn spots and mine one. 270636

Installed the rack on my Silverado pickup the day I received it. Both of our bikes fit very easily onto it. Construction looks to be heavy duty and although we haven't driven down the road with it yet , I don't expect any problems. I liked having the anti-rattle hitch pin supplied with the unit instead of having to order it separately as some manufacturers require. I believe I made a great buy. 240966

The product is as described. It is built lightly and I would caution anyone to not overload beyond recommended limit of 90 Lbs. It is easily adjusted to adapt to various sized bikes. I did modify the instructions to use two large washers to attach the stem that connects to the receiver. I use this carrier on the front of my truck and it provides good clearance for the bikes and truck. 410308

We love the new bike rack. The last one we had for many years required me to lift both bikes quite high and securing the one that went closest to the vehicle was a real chore. My wife says that even she can load the bikes on the new one. The only thing that is missing is a second hole that would allow me to insert a lock to the hitch receiver so that the nice new rack does not walk off! 177675

Product arrived promptly. Good value for the price and easy to assemble. Only a few negatives. Very wobbly when installed in my trailer hitch (quality hitch Draw Tite), tried tightening everything no help. Maybe an extra strap from unit to safety loop on hitch. (My Plan) The straps for bike tire hold downs not long enough for either of our bikes 18 speed and cruiser style bike. 427685

Bike rack arrived in 2 days. Everything was boxed neatly and required minimal assembly. It is very solid and holds bikes well. It does run a little on the heavy side, but that is to be expected with steel construction. For anyone reading about the bike rack being loose or shaky; it took all of 10 minutes to tighten the nuts out of the box and its ready to go. Would recommend! 432285

Very basic economy product and you certainly get what you pay for. It will get the job done but choosing a better rack to start with is a smarter way to go. Take a look at the Chinook for instance the one that I'm using now they'll certainly see the difference and it's also twice the money. So if you're trying to find a basic bike rack just to get by with this is will do. 466426

Product arrived quickly and in excellent shape. Easy assembly and install. Mounted it on my Bug and put the gravel bike on, seems as sturdy as any other similar that I researched. Was concerned about the velcro wheel straps being a bit light duty (for me) so sewed on 3/4" nylon webbing as additional backing. Looking forward to a road trip trial after it stops raining. 371953

The product is easy to assemble and use. The assembly instructions are a bit off. If you follow the assembly instructions then the bike installation direction needs to be reversed for best results. A tandem will not fit without tinkering. Rack is a bit heavy. It would be nice if it could fold for rear trunk access on a Scion Xb and Xd and similar vehicles. 98004
