Every ride starts with the puzzle phase of fitting bikes on the rack. Most racks force a specific order, especially with non-standard bike frames, but the Shifts&Grins adjusts to your setup so you spend less time swapping spots and more time riding.
No more swapping bikes around to make them fit. The Shifts&Grins adapts to any setup, so you don't have to force a perfect order. The ratcheting hooks adjust to grab your bikes by the wheel or frame, while the sliding wheel cradles move independently to match any combination of sizes and styles. Just set, secure, and go.
Reaching your gear shouldn't mean unloading your bikes or wrestling with a clunky mechanism. With the push-button tilt, just tap it with your leg and keep both hands on the rack as it smoothly lowers out of the way. No awkward balancing, no hassle - just quick, easy access to your trunk so you can grab what you need and get back on the road.
Bumpy roads, tight turns, high speeds - none of it matters when your rack holds steady. With a rugged, no-wobble design and an anti-rattle hitch pin, this rack locks in place so you can focus on the ride, not on whether your bikes are shifting behind you.
Installing a bike rack can be a pain - wrestling with a heavy frame, trying to get the hitch pin holes to match up. Not with the Shifts&Grins. The hitch alignment collar guides the shank into place quickly, and the D-shaped anti-rattle hitch pin can be tightened down with one hand, so you can secure the rack in seconds and get on with your ride.
This rack keeps everything secure no matter where you park. The included D-shaped hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch, while the steel cable lock (with vinyl coating) keeps your bikes in place. Plus, for added convenience, they both use the same key.
When the ride's over, the Shifts&Grins practically disappears. The shank folds up flat against the rack, allowing it to stand upright on its own - no extra stands, no awkward angles, just a rack that knows when to step aside. That means no more tripping over a bulky rack in your garage or wrestling to find space for it.
Sometimes, two bikes aren't enough - whether you're bringing friends along or gearing up for a family ride. Adding more bikes shouldn't feel like an installation project. The two-bike add-on (B34FR - sold separately) slides into place and tightens with a simple hand knob - no bolts, no wrenches, no frustration. Expand your rack in seconds and get back to riding.

Hi, everyone. I'm Evangeline, right here at etrailer. Since every bike rack fits every car differently, Today we're focusing in on how the Benton Shifts&Grins Bike Rack fits on a 2019 Nissan Rogue. There's some fun things here to compare, and it's a really good combination if you're looking for a bike rack with a lot of good features and is super sturdy. Now focusing on the Nissan Rogue, you do have to make sure you have a two inch hitch receiver first. You can find a custom fit one for your vehicle right here at etrailer.
And some of the features that I like with how this bike rack interacts with this car is, one example, you can very easily tilt it away. Since it has a button design at the end, I really just used my leg to push in that button as I tilted the bike rack down. And now I have plenty clearance between the hatch door pedals, handlebars, all that stuff. So if you need a, let's say grab your helmets in the back of your car, or you're the type of person that likes to switch out your shoes, you can do all that without having to take your bikes off. Here's another close look at that clearance.
And once that door is closed, you just lift up on the rack and then it snaps into place, ready to drive. Now the Shifts&Grins is definitely gonna be the heavier but really sturdy rack. But a really cool feature to it too is gonna be the versatility for types of bikes it can carry. And it does that because it has three touch points. So there's one and two, which is gonna be the wheel straps.
And I'll just go ahead and take these straps off of each hoop. And then the front strap is something that you don't see as often on similar style bike racks. And that front strap is there because the front hook is adjustable. So that's a different design. So by adjustable, I mean you can secure your bike by the front wheel like you see pretty commonly.
Or you can completely remove this hook, bring us over to the frame, and then frame mounts your bike, which is helpful if you have, let's say, a kids' bike or a bike with fenders. That just adds that little extra versatility for our different types of situations. Now when you're ready to take your bike off, you just push that hook on over to the side. And then now we can grab our bike and go. If you have heavier bikes, since this has a capacity of up to 55 pounds, well, the good thing about the Rogue is that the hitch is on the lower side, so then you're not lifting as high up to get those heavier bikes. So that's definitely gonna be a perk there. And if you looking over at those wheel hoops, you will notice that they've got a little knob at the end. And that knob is there so that you can adjust the cradles if needed for your different wheel bases. Like I said, this can carry a kids' bike. So if you need to push those cradles really close together for those smaller bikes, that is totally an option for you. Now I do suggest that when you are packing up this bike to go ahead and put your hooks on over, and then secure them underneath those cradles just so those hooks aren't bouncing around as you drive around. And the same thing goes for your straps, to secure them and then they're not whipping around. Now you can also move this back into the portable position if there are no bikes on. So let's take some measurements real quick so you can compare the before and after. So with this in the down position, the length this will add to the back of the Rogue, and I like to measure from the bumper, is bumper to the button, 29 and a half inches. So this is something to know if you're driving around town and need to park into a tight spot, this is how much length will be adding. The next measurement I like to go for is ground clearance. And that's gonna be how high up off the ground will this bike rack be. So compare this to where your hitch sits out, and that's 10 and a half inches. But then the end of the rack is now 18 inches. So there's a decent shank or rise so that your higher up off the ground, less likely to bottom out. But where your bike sit now is gonna be at the cradles to the ground, about 22 and a half inches. And that's how high you're gonna have to lift your bikes up to get onto this rack. Helpful to know if you have a heavier electric bike. And I said I'm gonna fold this in for more contact position. So you just press that button, bring this up, and now it's folded up. So to compare to earlier, from the bumper of our Rogue to the bike rack, and it's now 16 inches. So big difference compared to earlier. But there's a cool feature I noticed with a Nissan Rogue, and that is you can open up your hatch with a bike rack in this position, which is really cool, 'cause then what if you have your groceries in your hand You have other bags, things like that. You can still toss them into the hatch, close the door. It comes really close, but it does clear right there. And just as a comparison for us, the bumper, so the closest point on the rack where that door may get closest to is gonna be this handle here, and that sits about eight inches away. So that's just something to be mindful of compared to other bike racks. And this is how your bike rack is gonna look like when you're driving around town. Notice, again, we have that cleared for the door, but also we have full visibility of our window, of our taillights, of our license plate, and of our backup camera. This bike is designed to go into two inch hitch receivers. It locks into place. It has an anti-rattle bolt that takes away the side to side movement. But if you want something that takes away the up and down movements, which is something that may be bothersome for you if you drive around in this position often, check out the etrailer Anti-Rattle Collar, which will reduce that up and down movement. There's also an alignment collar that makes it easier to load this into your hitch receiver. And we have this kit included here at etrailer, which has the hitch lock so it's secured to your car, and the cable lock included. And they're both keyed alike. So if you're parked somewhere and you have your bikes on your bike rack and you wanna make sure everything is secure, that's what this cable lock is for. So with all that being said, if you have two bikes, even if they're different shapes, different sizes, different weights, this is gonna be a really good bike rack for your Nissan Rogue. I love how it interacts with this vehicle. I love how we can open up the hatch door. I think it's a really good fit. Something I do recommend looking into is if you are ever gonna carry more than two bikes, look into the two bike add-on. That's just something you pop onto this end, and then you tighten down a knob underneath, so no tools involved, and suddenly you can now carry four bikes. The downside to that add-on though is just double check your hitch capacity, because things can get a little heavy once you start adding on. But with just a two bike configuration, you've got a really good combination with this car. I think it's gonna be a great option for you and your bikes. So you just saw the Benton Benton Shifts&Grins here on the 2019 Nissan Rogue. My name is Evangeline, and I hope this helped you out.
Excellent design and quite strong. Should last years.
I was looking for a 4-bike rack with the wheel holders and adjustable arms designed to hook on both the frame and wheels if necessary. This rack seemed to fit the bill, and was priced less than the Kuat, Saris, and other name brand racks. It works, but after putting it together and using it for a weekend of camping I'm not sure I would buy it again. This thing is heavy. The online reviews and videos mention that, but I never looked at the actual weight before making the purchase. This thing is 114 lbs. in the 4-bike configuration, and that's without any bikes. Luckily, I installed 4 inch by 4 inch rear camper bumper with thicker steel and re-enforcements to my frame, as well as a heavy duty receiver, or I wouldn't even think about attaching this thing to the rear of a camper. It arrived in two boxes. Both boxes were heavy duty with some pretty thick cardboard inserts, but both racks were scratched up in several places and started to rust immediately. I also noticed after one weekend that the rivets that hold the arm click mechanisms together have already started rusting. I guess they decided to use plain steel rivets. I also noticed that the collar that's designed to stop the unit from sliding in at a certain point was installed backwards from the factory. I flipped it around, adjusted it where I needed it, and tightened the knob. With the weight of the entire unit you can't get the knob tight enough to stay in position when pushing the unit towards the vehicle's receiver hitch, so it's not really worth using. One of the locking arms also had the allen screw at the bottom not fully tightened. These are obviously small issues that were fixable, but does reflect quality control. I do like the latching mechanism that raises and lowers the entire unit. It does feel solid and secure. The click latches and straps that go around the bike wheels feel a bit cheap. I'm not sure how long those will last. I was able to fit two full size mountain bikes, and two smaller kids bikes with no issues, so it does seem to work well with various bike sizes. In all, I'm a bit disappointed in the rack. If it wasn't so much of a hassle, and I hadn't already thrown the packaging away I would probably have sent the rack back for a refund and spent a bit more money on something lighter and a bit better quality.
Everything about this product feels rock solid. So far, my assessment is that this is great value for price!
Just as advertised on Bike Sauce. (YOUT UBE)
It is a little heavier than I thought it would be.
Unfortunately it’s not the products fault. ETrailer can’t seem to be able to handle simple task like filling an order correctly.. 48$cable not included with order. Box for bike rack came in as an order in faith. Only to be left with the same wrong problems as before. Box was received covered in tape and all the factory staples pulled out and folded backwards. This didn’t happen during shipping. It’s obvious that it was shipped in this condition. Then it on you to pack it up take to ups. Hope it make it back to shipper. Then wait and hope that they reciprocate with a refund and all the blame games because it’s a 500$ bike rack.
easy assembly
I am an etrailer employee that tested out the rack. This is a solid rack for the price. I did have a small issue with the hitch aligner working with my OEM ford explorer hitch but I was able to loosen the screws and move the hitch aligner to make it work.
