Are Roller Bunks or Keel Rollers Needed on the CE Smith Boat Trailer Part # CE48810

Question:

Hi. I have just purchased a CE Smith Boat Trailer from etrailer Item # CE48810 and wanted to ask about roller bunks and guide-ons. I will be using the trailer for my Sun Dolphin Pro 120. The boat weights about 230 lbs. empty. While I understand rollers make launching and trailering easier, is that true with a small boat of this size? How about guide-ons, are they helpful for this setup? If yes to roller bunks and guide-ons, any suggestions?

The CE Smith Boat Trailer part # CE48810 comes with guide ons which help to center your boat during loading and to hold the boat during transport so I don't really recommend adding anything additional in regards to this aspect because of the size of the boat. However, if you will be launching your boat at night or in the early mornings I recommend using the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights part # CE27740 which will provide visual targets.

What I do recommend using is a two of the CE Smith Deep V Keel Roller Assembly part # CE10404G which will need to be placed on the center of the first and second cross sections of the frame (see photo). The keel rollers will assist with loading and unloading but perhaps the most beneficial feature for you would be protecting your boat and trailer as this assembly will act as a buffer between the frame and underside of your boat.

Question:

Thanks, Conner. So you are suggesting, I don't get roller bunks, keep the carpeted 5' bunks, and add two two Deep V Keel rollers, and add on the front and back. You mention that the CE48810 comes with guide-ons, but I don't see that in the description; are you referring to the two 5' carpeted bunks as guide-ons? I was considering part # CE27660 bunk style guide-ons for the back. No need for them if I go with your suggestion, or add them too?

Yes, if I were you I would keep the 5' long carpeted guide ons that the trailer came with and add two of the CE Smith Deep V Keel Roller Assembly part # CE10404G. The CE Smith Bunk-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers part # CE27660 are not needed as you already have a longer version of them.
