Bolster-and-swivel-bracket assemblies are typically mounted upright on a boat trailer's crossmembers. They allow a mounted bunk board, which runs from the front of the trailer to the back, to tilt to accommodate and support boat hulls of different sizes. On kayak trailers, these brackets are mounted to the trailer's frame and support bunk boards that run across the trailer.

Galvanized Steel

Steel parts are galvanized by being hot-dipped in zinc after they have been stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mil to 5 mil thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Parts - Roller and Bunk Parts - CE10000G-4 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number CE10000G-4. This is the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies. You're going to get a total of four assemblies. It's going to allow you to install two bunk boards onto your boat trailer. One of the neat things I want to point out is that here on the surface of the bracket it's going to have a dimpled surface. This is going to help prevent the brackets from sliding along the trailer frame. This portion of the bracket is going to make contact with your trailer frame. Your bunk boards are going to get attached to the top right here.

If our trailer frame is running front to back this would go just as shown and then you'd be able to tilt that bunk board as needed in order to fit the whole of the boat. You can see here that it's going to have the elongated mounting slots. These are going to allow as much as three and three-quarters of an inch of height adjustment during the installation. Each bolster bracket is going to install vertically on your boat's trailer frame with the U-bolt kit. Those are going to be sold separately but you can find those right here on our website. At the top of the bracket is going to be a strong swivel bracket. This is going to let you tilt the bunk boards as needed so again it's going to help you fit your particular boat during the loading process.

The hardware to attach the swivel bracket is already included. It's going to be loosely installed. You'll just need to tighten that down. I did not tighten it down because it's a nylon lock nut and I did not want to break that seal. The actual brackets are going to made from 11-gauge galvanized steel so they are designed to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. These are suitable for salt-water exposure. CE Smith is going to make this product fully in the U.S.A.

Again, with this part number you're going to get four bracket assemblies. Two on each side of your trailer. That way you can install two bunk boards to fit your particular application. The overall height that this is going to give us is going to measure about 9 inches. The dimensions of the bolster bracket, we'll take a look at that real quick. Just going to go ahead and move the other ones to the side so we can focus on one right here. Measuring just the long bracket, that's going to give us a length of 8 inches.

These mounting slots, these are going to give us a length of 2-3/4 of an inch each. They're going to give us a width of a half inch and the spacing in between the slots, that's going to measure a half inch as well. When it comes to the swivel bracket, this portion right here is going to give us an overall length of 3-1/2 inches. Overall width is going to measure 1-3/8 of an inch. The overall height is going to measure 2 inches tall. The pre-drilled holes on those brackets are going to have a diameter of 3/8 of an inch. The measurement that we have separating the two center on center, that's going to measure 2-1/2 inches. That's going to do it for today's review of part number CE10000G-4. These are the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies. .

this has happened again. I can't rate a product that should last years the minute it gets in my hand. The pieces LOOK good. The shipping was timely and the price was fair none of which tells me or you how good the product IS. Get back after two years of dunking in fresh and salt water and I'll give an honest review. 546112

so far so good. After a year of dunking in fresh and salt water there is no sign of rust and no cracks in the material. Im pleased and a little surprised they held up so far given the poor quality of a lot of galvanized pieces nowadays. If they hold up this good after two years they have my wholehearted endorsement, for what thats worth.

I'm going out on a limb and giving this 5 stars. The product came quickly and was package exceptionally well if not overly protected. The most important rating with these things is long term durability and only time will tell if the galvanized process holds up but I have no reason to think it won't. 571318

The Bolster Brackets are exactly what I ordered. However, they are galvanized products and come w/zinc plated hardware. This creates a situation where the hardware will rust (& freeze) far before the brackets do as any boater would understand. This renders adjustments to your trailer and/or the replacement of parts a difficult task. Solution: offer the brackets w/galvanized hardware or at least offer the option in something other than "small print." 201895

First off, I want to say that the products that I ordered from etrailer.com were of high quality and were easy to install, and lets not forget about the fast shipping and my favorite - the personal touch added to the email communications where each one is signed by a human (rather than something generic). My project itself entailed replacing the two (original) vertical mount 4' bunks on my boat trailer (see the attached pictures). These were set-up to hold a 15' sailboat. I recently purchased a 12' (plastic) jon boat, and I felt that the jon boat needed better support on the trailer so that it didn't warp or dent. After doing a lot of research, I decided to go with two horizontal mount 6' bunks. They were pre-finished at a cost less than if I were to purchase the individual components (wood, glue, carpet, staples, etc.) and do the assembly work myself. Attaching the hardware and mounting them to the trailer was a snap - see the attached pictures for the finished setup. 126130

  • Looking for 6 Galvanized U-Bolts that are 3 Inches Square with 7/16 or 1/2 Inch Diameter
We have a few different options for you to choose from. The CE Smith U-Bolt, # CE15252A, is zinc-plated and it is 3 inches long x 3-1/8 inches wide x 7/16 inch diameter. This u-bolt was designed to fit around 3 inch trailer frames. We also offer this u-bolt in a set of 2 as part # 7163183UB and with a stainless steel finish which is part # CE15502A. I have attached links to each of these parts below. We do not carry any square u-bolts that are 3 inches wide because they would be more...

You'd really need to base it off the hull design of the boat you plan to tow. I'd use swivel bunk brackets like the part # CE10000G-4 to mount the boards as these allow you to angle the boards to match the shape of your boat's hull. I attached a picture that shows how they typically install on a similar trailer.

  • Recommended U-Bolt to Fasten Bolster Bracket to 3 x 2 Inch Boat Trailer Frame
Since you've got a boat trailer, you'll want to use something that offers a good level of corrosion resistance. We have two different u-bolts that would work for you, one that's zinc plated # CE15252A and one that's stainless steel, part # CE15253A. If you're in a freshwater environment, the zinc plated u-bolt would work fine, but if you're using your boat in saltwater, you might consider the stainless option.

This will allow you to mount them to your 3x3 inch square tube trailer. Thank you for the kind words! I do not think there will be enough of the L bracket to properly support the boards because of the bolt head. You might be able to use alternate, lower profile hardware though obtained from a local auto parts store. The bracket is only 1-3/8 inches wide with the mounting holes centered putting them approximately 11/16 inches in from the edge on center. The CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies, # CE10000G-4, do not come with any mounting hardware. Because the brackets can be used for different size and type bunks they do not include the hardware because it would not cover all applications. The holes that attach the bunk board to the swivel bracket are 3/8 inches in diameter. To attach the brackets to the trailer frame you can use U-bolts such as # CE15283GA-2 which are 3-13/16 inches long, 3-1/16 inches wide, and have a 1/2...

I spoke with my contact at CE Smith, and they said the Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly for Boat Trailers, part # CE10000G-4, do not bear the weight of the boat.
