Video Transcript for Yakima Same Key System Cable Lock Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima Same Key System nine foot cable lock, part number Y07233. The cable itself is a braided steel construction so it's going to be rugged and durable. It has a polyethylene coating so it's not going to harm our deer. Yakima stands behind their product and offers a limited lifetime warranty. One of the best features about the Yakima Same Key System is its ability to be keyed alike to your other Yakima accessories. However, the locking cores are sold separately. You can pick up a matching locking core etrailer.com part number Y07202.

It's a nine foot long cable with a loop on one end and an adjustable bolt all along the cable itself. It's super easy to use. We've got two examples here with us today. We've got the hitch mounted bike rack and we've got a roof mounted bike rack. I'll go ahead and show you a few examples. I'm going to take the loop end, run it through all my wheels, leave the lock out here for now.

Then, I'll come back here, I'll bring it around my bike rack and up through, back down and out towards the front. I'm going to run the loop in through the lock itself, back up, then grab the bolt and put that in place. There, as you can see, we've got all our bikes locked to our bike rack. You can also use it to lock your bike rack to your vehicle. I'll go ahead and show you that. I'll just take the loop end, I'm going to come down through the loop on my receiver, wrap it around my bike rack a few times, bring it through and then secure it to the bolt.

As you can see no one is going to be able to get our bike rack off. Finally, we can just secure our roof mounted bike rack. We can run it underneath our roof rack system, even underneath our side rails, through our bike and then attach it to the bolt. As you can see, not only is it keeping our bike down, it's keeping our bike rack down to our roof rack and our roof rack to our side rails. That's going to complete our look at the Yakima Same Key System nine foot cable lock, part number Y07233.

Ask the Experts about this Yakima Bike Locks

Do you have a question about this Bike Lock?

  • Comparing the Yakima FourTimer Bike Rack # Y02469 with the Swagman Quad 2+2 # S64692
  • Both the Yakima FourTimer # Y02469 and the Swagman Quad 2+2 # S64692 that you referenced are excellent bike racks and would do a great job transporting your bikes. They both have the ability to hold up to 4 bikes that weight 45 lbs each and they are compatible with a 2 inch receiver. They both use the hook to stabilize the bike while it is in the cradles and they also have tilting and folding features. The ability to be adapted to a 2 bike rack is also an option between both of them. Typically...

  • Recommended 4-Bike Platform Rack That Allows 2012 Lexus GX 460 to Open Rear Door
  • Thank you for all the information, it was very helpful. I went to our demo room to take some measurements of the Swagman XTC-4 # S64665 and based on those would not be able to confirm it would allow a 2012 Lexus GX 460 to open the rear door. If you use the attached photo (which shows the Swagman, but not on a Lexus GX 460) as a reference, you can see that at the highest point, the XTC-4 is going to be roughly 28" above the ground on a 2012 Lexus GX 460. Given a margin of error of roughly...

  • Recommended 4 Bike Rack for a Class C Motorhome
  • When looking for a bike rack to use with a motorhome it is extremely important to make sure that the bike rack is approved for use on an RV. You are correct when talking about the extra movement at the rear of an RV. The Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR that you referenced is not rated for use on an RV, but I do have some other options for you. Yakima has their RoadTrip 4 Bike Rack # Y02477 which is very similar to the Hitching Post Pro. It is rated for use on an RV, can carry up to...

  • Comparing the Yakima HalfBack and FullBack Trunk Mount Bike Racks
  • The Yakima HalfBack # Y02635 and FullBack # Y02633 are very similar but there are some key differences. The FullBack has an integrated cable lock and comes with a security strap. Locks are available for the HalfBack but are sold separately. The security strap is # Y02623 and the cable lock is # Y07233 which also requires a lock core # Y07202. Adding these items would make the FullBack the better value. If you are not concerned about locking the bikes to the rack and the rack to the...

  • Recommended 4-Bike Rack for 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon with Draw-Tite Hitch Installed
  • The Malone Pilot 4 Bike Platform Rack # MPG2112-2115 referenced in your question features a distance of 12-1/2 inches from the furthest hitch pin hole to the closest wheel cradle when the rack is folded down for use. This distance though decreases to just 4-1/2 inches when the rack is folded up for storage against the vehicle. This means that on your 2016 Subaru Outback with the Draw-Tite Hitch installed, you won't be able to fold the rack up without it interfering with the rear bumper...

  • Hollywood Racks vs Yakima Trunk Mounted Bike Racks for the 2017 Kia Sorento
  • Between the Yakima HangOut, part # Y02637 and the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top, part # HRF2, I'd recommend spending the same amount you would on the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top on purchasing the security accessories with the Yakima HangOut. The HangOut's fit and ease of installation really stand out to me, especially the rubber coated mounting straps and quick attach bike cradles. These features at this price point make the HangOut an excellent value. This is doubled when you factor...

  • Optional Additions to the Yakima HangOut Trunk Mount Bike Rack on a 2015 Jeep Renegade
  • Let me start by saying the only thing you absolutely need for the Yakima HangOut Bike Rack # Y02637 on a 2015 Jeep Renegade is the HangOut itself. Everything else you mentioned is optional, but will certainly upgrade the rack. The SKS Cable # Y07233 is essentially a cable bike lock that uses Yakima's Same Key System Lock Cores # Y07202. This way all the locks you use with Yakima products use one key instead of having a bunch of keys for a bunch of products. The SKS cores can be keyed...

  • Both the Yakima FourTimer 4 Bike Platform Rack # Y02469 and the RockyMounts SplitRail 4 Bike Platform Rack # RKY1140-4 referenced in your question are great, platform-style bike racks that are compatible with 2 inch hitch receivers and can hold up to 4 bikes. I recommend the Yakima FourTimer # Y02469 for a few reasons. The Yakima carrier has a generous distance of 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when it is folded for storage. This same...

  • According to Yakima, the glass hatch adapters are not needed to install the Yakima HangOut 2 Bike Rack part # Y02637 on your 2012 Volkswagen Eos. Instead, you will need to convert the top two hook straps to anchor mode using the diagram I have attached for you which is also page 4 in the installation manual. • The Draw-Tite Hitch part # 76082 for the 2016 - 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class GLC300 is the best option for the 2019 Mercedes GLC300 because it does provide 2 more inches of ground clearance compared to the other options and 1-1/2 more inches of bumper clearance compared to the other options. I've included our video review of both racks to help you get a feel for each of them. This will be the most cost effective bike rack we have for you that will fit both of your vehicles. Although it is cost effective, it does not lack in quality. • Economic Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • The most economic bike rack type that you can use on your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon is a trunk mount bike rack. It doesn't require any extra equipment like a roof mount or hitch mount bike rack does and it can easily be stored in the rear hatch of your Outback Wagon. Both are 4-bike racks that use Yakima's SuperCush anti-sway cradles and ZipStrip straps.
