Updated 07/11/2025 | Published 05/16/2011

Question:

Does the bar itself LOCKS to a certain length.. Say for example:I understand that the maximum length is 31-1/2 and i want to lock it at 22length....can I lock the bar/tube?

The Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar, # Y02531, does not have a locking feature. It will remain at the length you set it to and will not extend or retract because it will be clamped around the seat and handle bars posts on a bike.

I recommend a locking cable to secure the bike to the rack. You can use Yakima Cable Lock, # Y07233. I have included links to the installation details and a video review of the adapter bar for you to view.

That's not true It does not lock I bought it that does not have a locking mechanism to keep it from telescoping in or out. I'm returning it. nobody else should buy it until you make it so that it is locked in place. It actually It does NOT secure properly around the seat post in handlebar post and therefore it needs a center locking mechanism

@That I am a little confused, in Michael's answer it states, "It will remain at the length you set it to and will not extend or retract because it will be clamped around the seat and handle bars posts on a bike." He doesn't state that the actual bar itself locks into place, instead he tried to explain how it will stay in place. We do not actually make the product, Yakima does. I do understand what you are saying, and it would be nice if they added a feature like that.
