Double-Duty Corrosion Resistance

A close-up view of the etrailer ball mount inserted in the hitch receiver

Most ball mounts have just 1 layer of paint or powder coat to protect them from the outside world. Scratch this away after towing just a couple times, and the raw metal underneath will start to rust before you know it. Some folks take pride in that rusty, worn-in look. After all, rust is proof that you've had plenty of road-worn adventures.

But we prefer something that works hard and looks like it's barely broken a sweat. That's why we added a layer of e-coat underneath the matte black powder coat to give you an extra layer of rust protection. So while others might be driving around with a flaking, rusted-out hitch, yours will be looking great for the long haul.

Quick Tip: As for the hitch ball itself, if you really want to make sure that black nickel stays looking fresh for longer, we suggest greasing it up before you tow.

  • Can Cargo Box and Bike Rack Fit on a Malone LowBed MicroSport Trailer
Hey Tanya, thanks for reaching out! To tow your trailer you'll need a ball mount with a 2" rise and for that I recommend going with the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # e38NR. This gives you a 2-3/4" rise but that will still work for your application. The Malone LowBed MicroSport Trailer # MAL25FR can accommodate the Malone Pilot Trailer Bike Rack # MPG2100, but while the Storage Trunk # MPG481 will physically be able to fit inside the frame of your trailer, I don't believe you'll be able to...

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring for 2025 Toyota Sienna
Hi Greg; we do carry a hitch and wiring for your 2025 Sienna. The best hitch is the etrailer # e56RR. This has a 2" receiver, bolt-on installation, and a matte black powder coat finish. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty. For wiring you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C53VV which has a plug and play installation. You will also need a ball mount like the # e38NR to complete your setup.

  • 2011 Toyota Prius Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Ball Mount Recommendations for Towing a Sailboat
Hey James, thanks for reaching out - I'd be more than happy to help you find the best parts for your 2011 Toyota Prius! I currently own a 2009 Prius so definitely get where you're coming from, and there are 2 main things you'll want to consider when choosing a hitch; ground clearance, and strength. The best hitch to address both of these concerns is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7178 because it has a stronger tongue weight rating than the other options, and it has a...

  • How to Choose Correct Ball Mount Rise/Drop for a 2022 Nissan Rogue with etrailer Hitch Receiver
Thanks for reaching out and your purchase of the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e93ZR for your 2022 Nissan Rogue! To choose the correct ball mount you'll need to figure out the difference between the height of your hitch receiver and your trailer coupler. To measure your hitch receiver height you'll measure from the ground to the top inside of your receiver. When we installed this on a 2021 Rogue we found this height to be 11-3/4". Then for your trailer coupler height you'll need to...

  • Does Curt Hitch for 2025 Toyota Crown Signia Need 4-Way Mounting Bracket
Hey Blaise, with the Curt hitch # C35MJ installed on your 2025 Crown Signia it doesn't have a 4-way bracket built in like you noticed but the Curt kit part # C59236 would actually get stored in the rear cargo area of your vehicle when not in use so a bracket wouldn't be needed. With that said this is a universal style wiring kit and it does require splicing. I am sure we will get a plug and play option at some point but we don't have it quite yet. The Curt ball mount part # C45155 is...

  • Availability of Ball Mount with 4 inch Rise with 2 inch Hitch Ball
Hey Art, we can help but we don't have a ball mount that has the ball pre-installed and torqued in the configuration you are wanting. So you would want to start with a ball mount that has a 4 inch rise like the TowSmart # TS78FR and then add a 2 inch ball to it with the part # 40038 and you'd have what you are looking for.

  • What Hitch and Trailer Wiring do I Need for My 2025 Hyundai Tucson?
Hello Dan, Congrats on the new 2025 Hyundai Tucson! What is your new favorite feature? At this time there is not any "plug-n-play" wiring for the 2025 Hyundai Tucson, I am sure the aftermarket guys are working hard to come up with a wiring harness. The vehicle must have had electrical changes from the 2024 to the 2025, so you will have to check back. If you wanted to splice in a harness, you could go with the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236....

  • Affordable Ball Mount Recommendation for Towing with a 2019 Hyundai Kona
Hey Paul, I recommend using the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e38NR to tow with your 2019 Hyundai Kona because it has a 2-3/4" rise which should help get you in the level range for most trailers. I'm also attaching a helpful article about choosing the correct ball mount height to make sure you get the correct one for your application.

  • Will an Aftermarket Hitch Get in the Way of My Hands Free Tailgate Sensor on 2025 Toyota Rav4?
Hello Hal, Congrats on the new ride! What is your favorite new feature? With any aftermarket hitch there is the possibility that the hands free tailgate sensor will be covered. So if you install B&W Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # BW47BR on your 2025 Toyota RAV4 it is possible to lose full capabilities of your hands free tailgate, in our experience you can usually maneuver your foot to the right or the left of the receiver to have the sensor work. • How Much Can 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Tow
Hey Joe! Don't worry, this is a pretty common question. When it comes to towing you are always limited by the lowest rated component. Trailer hithes are often capable of handling more than the vehicle they're designed for. Even though a hitch like the etrailer # e66AR has a max gross trailer weight of 4,000 lbs you're still limited to the 2,000 lb towing capacity of the vehicle. You will also need wiring # C59236 and a ball mount # e38NR to complete your setup. What kind of trailer...

  • Best Hitch for Towing a Trailer with a 2024 Ford Explorer
Hey Fischer, The best trailer hitch for your 2024 Ford Explorer is the etrailer # e29YR because it has a hidden crosstube and a matte black finish. This means you'll be getting a sleek looking hitch that also does a better job at hiding scratches than the hitches with a standard glossy finish. To wrap up your towing setup I recommend picking up the T-One Wiring # 118599 and the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # e38NR. Whenever Tekonsha wiring is available I always recommend going that route as...

Hey Michael thanks for the question. We do indeed carry ball mounts and bike racks that will work with your 2011 Toyota Prius. I really like how our hitch is the only one that comes in the Matte Black finish. It really gives it that nice OEM look. When it comes to the wiring, it depends on what you’re using it for. • 2023 Subaru Outback Wagon Towing Kit Recommendation for a U-Haul Trailer
Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out to us - I'd be more than happy to help you out! According to the online manual for your 2023 Subaru Outback Wagon, your vehicle can tow up to a 3,500 lb trailer as long as it has brakes - which means you need to go with the 6x12 trailer from U-Haul since it's the only one that comes with surge brakes on it. • Recommended Parts for Trailer Towing with a 2024 Lexus RX 350
Hey Neil, thanks for reaching out to us! The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C29VV is definitely the hitch I recommend for your 2024 Lexus RX 350 for a few reasons; currently it's the only one available for your vehicle, but even if that wasn't the case, it being a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver means you'll have a much wider variety of options to choose from when it comes to accessories than if you have a Class II hitch. This also features a hidden crosstube so it will look pretty sleek...

  • Is OEM or Aftermarket Hitch Better Quality for a 2011 Honda CR-V
Hey Judy, thanks for reaching out! The quality of OEM vs aftermarket hitches is usually pretty comparable. The pricing on what you're looking at seems to be okay, but what you're likely going to see is a pretty big price tag on the labor involved in the installation - that's how they really get you. • Can 2020 Tesla Model 3 Trailer Hitch Hold Motorcycle Rack
Hey Alfred! What kind of motorcycle do you have? At 500 lbs there won't be a hitch that can handle holding your motorcycle on the rear of your Model 3. The highest tongue weight capacity is on the Stealth Hitch # 391TES317T which is maxed at 350 lbs. Even if the hitch could handle the weight of your motorcycle and carrier I doubt the vehicle tongue weight is rated that high. • What Hitch and Wiring do I Need to Tow Jet Ski Trailer with My 2021 Audi Q3 40 TFSI?
Hello Robert, The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # DT68MR is a great option for your 2021 Audi Q3. I do want to mention that this hitch is not compatible with the hands-free tailgate feature, so installing it could cause that function to stop working. This is the case with most hitches across many vehicles. Sometimes, however, customers have found that moving their foot to the side helps them find the “sweet spot” to still activate it. For a hitch that fits your 2024 Honda Odyssey EX-L I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76170. The main reason I would choose this hitch over other options is the concealed crosstube. Not only does this improve clearance, it also gives the hitch a much cleaner look. The only hitch I think is better is the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite # DT76GR, but that comes at a greater cost. This hitch has a completely removable receiver so you have no clearance lost and a factory...

  • How To Determine How Much Rise Or Drop I Need For A Ball Mount?
Hey Darrell, thanks for reaching out. The amount of rise or drop for the ball mount will depend on two things. The height of the hitch on your truck, and the height of the coupler on your trailer. We want the trailer to be level when you are towing, or as close to level as possible. What you can do is park your truck on level ground, and measure from the upper inside edge of your hitch receiver to the ground. Then you can, with the trailer leveled, measure from the center of the ball...
