Video Transcript for Wheel Stud Installation on a Boat Trailer

Today on This Old Boat Trailer we are going to repair one of the lug bolts in the hub. We are going to replace the wheel stud by using part number 25-53. The first thing we need to do is clean out the threads and we are going to be using a wire brush to do that with and that is part number 814092. Once we have everything cleaned out we will install the new wheel stud. We will use some thread locker to help keep it from coming back out and that is going to be part number LT37643. 00:28

Then we are going to take two regular lug nuts, you can use these off of the existing studs if you want and we will run these two together. Hold one nut in place and then draw the other nut onto it. Lock the two together and it will just run the two nuts together and kind of jam them and then we will take the assembly and we will just thread it in. There is a little ring in the middle of it and run that down until the ring seats into the hub. You want to tighten it down as you would any other wheel bolt or lug nut and once you have it ran down we will simply back off this nut. We have got our wheel stud repaired and we can put the wheel back on. Then we are going to top it off with a new chrome lug nut and that is going to be part number 12CLN. That is it, that will finish our installation of our wheel stud part number 25-53 on This Boat Trailer.

Bought these wheel studs for my snowmobile trailer after some of the nuts were rusted to the studs to the point of backing the studs out of the hub. Worked perfectly for the fix. After new wheels, rims, studs, and nuts the trailer looks great again. 593340

Worked great but could have bought the whole hub ably for less money. 714006

I recently received my order from e-trailer. I ordered a Dexstar wheel, a pair of Kenda tires, a chrome when center cap, lug nuts and screw in studs. I read all the pertinent info supplied as well as check exactly the brands, sizes etc of the parts I was replacing. I was notified by email (from Phyllis) the day following the order placement that their was a shipment delay of the tires, I was supplied with equivalent tire replacements which could have been supplied to keep the order on time or wait a week and get exactly what I originally ordered. I waited and received everything faster then I thought it would have taken. Phyllis kept me updated every couple days on the order progress- so nice! I was a little unsure if the screw in studs would fit but ordered what seemed to be the best match (had to start somewhere & figured I could return if no fit) and studs and lugs fit as stock- exact matches. This was my 2nd order in two years and have had great customer service and better then stock replacement parts, certainly all for a cheaper price then I could ever find in NW Montana! Thank You all at e-trailer! 704771

I bought new rims and tires for my utility trailer and the 20 year old studs in the hubs had the lug nuts seized on them. Once I started loosening my lug nuts the studs backed out with the lug nuts. No where in my city had these type of studs that I needed. I went to this website and found exactly what I needed as replacements. Ordered and received them in a few days. 585015

I tried to get these at my local auto parts store. "Yes sir we'll have them for you this afternoon." On my return trip "Sorry we can't get these." A few days later my order arrived from you. I even ordered a couple of spares just in case. My utility trailer is now back on the road. Thanks for the quick service. 457310

  • Availability of 1/2 Inch Trailer Hub Studs and Trailer Coupler for 2-5/16 Inch Ball
We have only 2 screw-in wheel studs with 1/2 inch diameter. First is # 25-53. It has an overall length of 2 inches, the lug nut end is 1-1/16 inches long fine threaded and the hub end is 13/16 inches long coarse threaded. Then we have # 25-51 which is also 2 inches long overall. The lug nut end is 7/8 inches long fine threaded and the hub end is 5/8 inches long coarse threaded. The coarse threaded ends may or may not fit your hub. You would have to test it to see. If they do not...

  • Can Studs be Installed and Used Instead of Bolts for Trailer Hubs/Wheels
You very well could use wheel studs instead of bolts by installing screw-in studs like the 1/2" x 2" Redline # 25-53 or # 25-51, or the 9/16" x 3" Redline # 25-11. Just be sure that the stud is the correct size, the middle opening on your new wheels is larger than the hub bore, and that your wheels accept coned lug nuts like part # CE11051. If all of that matches up then you are good to go!

  • Availability of Replacement Wheel Stud for AL-KO Axle
We do have replacement studs, but since we do not carry AL-KO products I am unsure as to a specific fit. I have attached a link that has our available list of replacement studs for you to look through. You will simply need to make sure that you check the diameter, length, and thread count of your studs, as well as whether they are drive-in or screw-in. For example; the Redline Replacement Wheel Stud # 25-53 is a screw-in stud that has a 1/2" diameter, has a length of 2", and has a...

  • Replacement 1/2-20 Wheel Stud for Thule Trailer
We do have screw-in (and drive-in) wheel studs in the 1/2-inch x 2-inch size and 20-TPI thread pitch you referenced. Both types of stud are shown on the two linked pages. Part # 25-53 from Redline matches your description. My contact at Thule advised that Thule no longer sells trailers here in North America and so they no longer maintain replacement parts.

  • Replacement Screw-In Wheel Stud for Boat Trailer
The part you referenced, Redline # 25-53 Replacement Screw-In Wheel Stud, has a fine thread pitch and a 1/2-inch diameter. If this matches your trailer's wheel stud then you can use a lubricant to remove the old stud and replace it with this one using a thread lock like Loctite Blue # LT37643.

  • Can Trailer Hub Be Changed from Bolts to Standard Wheel Studs
It is potentially possible to change a hub from bolts to standard screw-in wheel studs. In order to do this a number of features have to match up between the bolts and studs. The diameters of both the original bolts and the replacement studs must be the same. Their thread pitch must also match to ensure the screw-in studs, like Redline # 25-53 for instance, will properly fit into the threaded holes in the hubs. This particular screw-in stud has a 1/2-inch diameter with fine threads (20...

  • Replacement Stud or Hub/Drum for Broken Stud on Trailer Hub

  • What Could Cause Enlargement of Trailer Wheel Bolt Holes
In order for the holes on your trailer wheels to become enlarged there would had to have been enough movement of the wheel on your hub's studs to allow the holes to be enlarged. The continuous friction from the wheel studs would wear on the holes in the wheel and enlarge them. Most likely the wheel was not secured to the hub with enough torque on the lug nuts or the wheel is intended for a hub that has different diameter studs. A bent spindle could cause uneven tire wear but not enlarged...
