Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The rating is for etrailer, not the product. The Dexter hub and drum assembly was fine, etrailers way of doing business is not. The estimated ship date kept changing due to a "location in warehouse" issue. It took 2 weeks before they shipped it out. Bottom line, if you need something in a timely fashion, look elsewhere.

Everything arrived in a timely manner. However one of the bearings was damaged half of the Lugnuts were missing because the box that was shipped in was destroyed by the time it got to me. Didn’t have time to deal with having new stuff sent I was able to get a new bearing locally other than that fit was good

Still running good after 1 year. Probably around 90k miles on it so far. No complain

  • 10k Dexter Replacement Hub for a 8-415
I did some checking and the hub/drum we offer that will work for you is the part # 8-430-5UC3. This uses the same bearings as the 8-415 and will be an exact fit aside from the fact this is a non-ABS setup and the 8-415 came in an ABS setup and non-ABS setup. The part number for the ABS version is part # 8-430-7 which we do not carry at this time.

  • Hub and Drum Assembly with 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern for Dexter 10,000 Pound Trailer Axle
The Dexter 8-427 hub is no longer available. Even looking through Dexter's site the only references to it are replacement bearings. You can use a wheel with a larger pilot hole as long as the wheel attaches to the hub using lug nuts and not bolts. Hub and drum assembly # 8-430-5UC3 uses lug nuts to secure the wheel to the hub and uses inner bearing 387A and outer bearing 25580.

  • Difference Between Dexter 008-430-05 and 8-430-5UC3
The Dexter # 8-430-5UC3 and 008-430-05 are the same hub and drum assembly. They use the same bearings and seals, the same oil cap kit, have the same capacity, and fit axles manufactured after 2009. The only difference between the part numbers is that the # 8-430-5UC3 is the full kit that comes with everything. The bearings, races, oil seal, and oil cap kit are all included. The 008-430-05 does not include these, or in some cases comes with only the bearings and races.

  • Do Oil Bath Hub and Drum Assemblies Come Pre-Assembled
All of the oil bath hub drum assemblies that we carry, like part # 8-430-5UC3, require you to install the bearings and seal on them. This is actually really common among even standard grease variations as well. We do have a handful of grease options that come pre-assembled but the vast majority require assembly.

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Dexter 8-430-5 Trailer Hub
The 8-430-5 you are wanting is very similar to the Dexter Trailer Hub Drum Assembly # 8-430-5UC3 we carry but it doesn't come with bearings and seals. While you aren't in need of those things they are relatively inexpensive so the price savings wouldn't be too big. Since this isn't a super popular replacement hub we just don't have all versions of it at this time.

  • Why Are There Different Brake Drums for 9,000 and 10,000 lb Axles After July 1, 2009?
The Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum Assembly # 8-430-5UC3 is a one piece assembly, hub and drum together. It fits Dexter 9k and 10k general duty axles made after 07/01/2009. Hub # 8-288-3UC1 is a 2 piece for 9K axle (after 10/89) and 10K axle (through 7/1/09). It does not come with the drum or mounting bolts. Dexter changed their spindle diameters on these two capacity (9,000 and 10,000 lb) axles. The biggest difference was in the inner diameter of the seal needed.

  • Determining the Weight Capacity of Axles and If Hubs Are Available
Unfortunately we don't carry hubs above 10K. The largest hubs we carry are 9K-10K Dexter Hub and Drum Assemblies # 8-430-5UC3. I have no way of knowing what hubs may work on your trailer unless you measure the spindles using a digital caliper like # PTW80157. I've attached a photo to assist with the locations. These measurements will possibly help to determine the capacity of your axle, but any hubs that may fit will limit your axle capacity to the max capacity of the hubs.

I'm not sure why they said those were your only options, but we do have the correct replacement oil seal for your Dexter 10k hub from 2006, and is the exact replacement for a National 370150BG: - Unitized Oil Seal # 10-51 The # 10-51 has an inner diameter of 2.875 inches and outer diameter of 3.880 inches; I verified with Dexter this is the correct part for your 10k hub.

If you have a standard 10,000 lb trailer axle then you will need to use a 387A (2.250") inner bearing, 25580 (1.750") outer bearing, and a 10-51 (2.875") grease seal like what is included with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-430-5UC3. However, not all 10,000 lb trailer axles use the same bearings and seals therefore you will be wise to measure the spindle where the bearings and seals ride with a digital caliper beforehand. • When is Wheel Retainer Ring Needed for Dexter Hubs and Wheels
The wheel retainer ring that is included in certain hub assemblies like the Dexter # 8-430-5UC3 that you referenced will be installed on dual wheels when tapered coned lug nuts like # 6-109 are used instead of flange wheel nuts. It essentially allows you to use a lower torque spec for the nuts which would be required when using coned nuts.

For example, part # AKEBRK-10 is a high-value pair of self-adjusting left- and right-hand brakes in the 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 inch size which fits wheels 15-inches in diameter and larger. Hub and drum assemblies, like the Dexter # 8-430-5UC3 you referenced, are universal so they typically fit any 9K - 10K axle just fine. With that being said, there are some exceptions out there so you just need to confirm that your axle uses a # 387A inner bearing, a # 25580 outer bearing, and that the inner diameter of your grease seal is 2.875" to ensure that this fits. • Can a 1-Piece 9K/10K Dexter Hub and Drum be Replaced with a 2-Piece 9K/10K Hub and Drum
I spoke directly with my technical contact over at Dexter. Basically you cannot replace an 8-430 hub with an 8-288 hub due to differences in the spindles that each of those hubs fit. If your axle was made after July of 2009 then you will need to use # 8-430-5UC3. If it was made before July of 2009 you would instead use # 8-288-3UC1 with drum # 9-44-1 for non-ABS systems or # 9-44-3 for ABS systems.
