Video Transcript for Trailer Wheel Bolts Feature Review

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna take a real quick look at these trailer wheel bolts. These half inch in diameter by one inch in length wheel bolts are going to fit hub piloted trailer wheels, and you're going to receive four 60 degree coned bolts. And let me pull out my ruler here real quick and just confirm some measurements with you. So lining this up here, I'm gonna try to give you the, show you the diameter of the threads. As you can see, we are sitting right at half an inch on that thread diameter.

The thread length is one inch. And these are fine threads. And then the head size, we're sitting a little under an inch. We're gonna call it about thirteen sixteens of an inch. And again, you're gonna get four of these bolts.

And if these match the specs that you are looking for, it's gonna be a good item for you to consider. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

So here is a comparison of the stock lug and part numbers 20 and 40. The 20s worked well for me. I'll be sending the 40s back. Hope this helps someone.

I purchased two trailer wheels & tires for my utility trailer from etrailer.com after looking at several web sites specializing in trailer tires and parts. etrailer was not the cheapest but was competitively priced and more importantly, had the most detailed information about the products they sold. The tires and wheels arrived in a timely manner, met my expectations and fit the hubs on my trailer perfectly. Would definitely buy from them again.

Great Customer Service and communicatio n!

The weather has improved and we can finally work on the trailer. We did an on line search for the best price and quality for parts to bring our trailer back to working order. We found the parts needed to replace old retired fenders, wheels, etc and the company we ordered from for the first order was etrailer. The item was delivered fast and well packaged and our first item was a definite plus for our trailer with regard to appearance and quality. Then we needed more parts and did another on line search. Again, we were directed to etrailer for best price and quality and again, we received our item fast, well packaged and high quality products. Now we are ordering more and do not bother doing on line searches. We now go automatically to etrailer for best price and quality as well is fast safe secure shipping.

I have a older boat trailer that has been in salt water and the lug bolts were rusted. I had to change one tire and decided to replace all the lug bolts. I didn't think lug bolts were so hard to find. The coating appears to be Zinc Dichromate. I hope it will stand up to salt water better than the old ones. I have 5 lug per wheel and the bolts come in packs of 4. Luckily it is a tandem axle and ordering 5 packs worked out great.

I was very satisfied with the service I received from etrailer.com. I ordered this set of wheel bolts form etrailer.com on Tuesday, May 1. I choose the normal (cheapest) ground shipping method. I was pleased when I checked my email a few hours after placing my order and was notified that my shipping method had been upgraded to three day shipping with no additional costs! I then received the wheel bolts on Thursday, May 3. I will be using these wheel bolts to hold the wheels onto my 4'x 9' utility trailer an I hope to get plenty of use out of them. I would definitely recommend etrailer.com for two reasons being: 1, The great low price only offered by etrailer.com, and 2, the great and speedy service I received from etrailer.com. I will definitely be shopping again with etrailer.com in the near future.

A year later...bolts still holding tight and strong.

Replace old rusty lugs. With new lugs to go with new tires and wheels that I purchased from e trailer. Quick service and good product Thanks guys. Pictures will follow.

by:

Exactly what I needed. Was told by a trailer place one day these aren't made anymore because they tend to back out (but have yet to have loose ones). Not sure why I didn't even think about etrailer.com If it's not here, then it's probably NOT available anywhere. Got them in the mail quickly and put them on my horse trailer right away. Had 4 of 5 in on each of all 4 wheels before. Not the safest, but still held the wheel on just fine.

by:

u guys r the best .. helped me all the way through with the lug bolts and helped me with wireing on my trailer ... will be ordering from u for all my trailer needs ... thanks again jeff

by:

I thought customer service was extinct until I placed my order with Ashley! I can’t remember a time when I have received service excellence like this! Too bad she can’t train the rest of America in customer service.

Bolts fit great, still holding tight a year later. etrailer is awesome!

  • Wheel Lug Nuts for Vintage Style 4-Bolt Trailer Hub
Thank you for the photo of your vintage trailer hub. This type of hub uses bolts rather than lug nuts to secure the trailer wheel. We offer kit # RG02-020 which consists of four (4) 1/2-inch x 1-inch 60-degree-coned wheel bolts. We also have a kit # RG02-040 that has 90-degree-coned bolts that are 1/2-inch x 7/8-inch. We also have 9/16-inch x1-1/8-inch bolts # RG02-060. The particular wheels you use will require one or the other depending on the profile of the wheel holes. The wheel...

  • 1/2 X 13 Threads Per Inch Vintage Trailer Wheel Bolts
I reviewed all of our trailer wheel bolt inventory and did not have a match for your request. I also contacted our suppliers and was not able to make a match there. The bolts I found were not 13 threads per inch coarse, nor left-handed. I suspect you would have to look for a rare bolt seller who would have this vintage style bolt. Brand new old stock would be the way to go as I would not trust used wheel bolts. If all else fails, another option is to replace with a modern axle and hub...

  • Availability Of Left-Hand Threading Trailer Lug Bolts
Hello John, thanks for reaching out. The # RG02-020 Trailer Wheel Bolts you mentioned are right-hand thread. So is every other lug bolt we carry. The left-hand thread is really not used for trailers these days, and it is definitely more of an "old school" design. The thinking back in the day was that wheel bolts had to tighten in a certain direction relative to the direction of the wheel. The fear was that otherwise, the inertia of the wheel would cause the bolts to loosen over time. In...

  • Torque Spec for 13 Inch Trailer Wheels That Use Bolts
The correct torque specs for the wheel bolts like part # RG02-020 on your trailer with 13" wheels will be dependent on their diameter. I have attached a chart for you below with these variables. These torque specs will be the same whether you have wheel bolts or lug nuts/studs. If you don't have a torque wrench I recommend the Powerbuilt Dual Drive Torque Wrench part # ALL944001.

The other most likely fit is the part # RG02-040 which has a 90 degree head.

Looks like you have a hub-centric setup because you secure your wheels using lug bolts like part # RG02-020 instead of lug nuts like part # CE11051. The whole hub-centric wheel vs lug-centric wheel can be a bit confusing but it's as simple as noting whether you use bolts or nuts to secure your trailer wheel!

All of the 12 inch wheels with 4 on 4 bolt pattern that we carry have a pilot hole that is 2.8 inches or greater. If the wheel bolts have a 60 degree cone (like # RG02-020 as an example) then the bolts will be able to center the wheel on a hub-centric set up like what you have. The 60 degree cone will center at each hole thus centering the wheel. If the bolts are flat like a regular nut, or 90 degree, like # RG02-040, then they will not be able to center the wheel properly. The best option you have to find this would be to take the hub/drum to a hardware store and try to find a bolt with the correct diameter and thread pitch. • How to Determine Correct Lug Nut/Wheel Bolts for Wesco Trailer with 3,990 lbs GAWR
Most wheel bolts/lugs have a 1/2" diameter but it isn't too uncommon to have something else. While I don't know exactly what a Wesco trailer with a GAWR of 3,990 lbs uses, I can help you figure it out. The first thing to note is whether your hubs have lugs already and your wheel mounts to them, or whether you need to hold the wheel up and secure it in place using bolts. The other thing to note is what degree cone you have. For example, the 1/2" diameter wheel bolts come in 2 different...

  • Difference Between 90 Degree and 60 Degree Lug Bolts
The degrees represents the angle of the cone that is on the wheel bolt. If they are 90 degree then the cone is a 90 degree angle made by the angle created by each side of the bolt. A 60 degree lug bolt would have a 60 degree angle made by each sides of the lug. 60 is the more common size. For 90 degree you would want the # RG02-040 that you referenced or for 60 degree part # RG02-020.
