The Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch is rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit, giving you solid confidence when pulling large fifth wheels. The durable steel build and rust-resistant black powder coat finish hold up to big loads and long hauls. With this kind of strength under your trailer, the hitch feels tight and planted through every mile.
A strong wraparound jaw completely surrounds the king pin for full 360-degree contact, keeping movement to a minimum. The solid steel 3/4" locking bar adds another layer of security once the jaw closes, automatically locking into place so you can hook up and go without second-guessing. The tight fit reduces rattle and chucking for a smoother, quieter ride that feels steady from start to stop.
The double-pivot head moves front to back and side to side, making it easier to line up when you back in. Built-in polyurethane dampeners help absorb road shock and noise, so towing feels controlled instead of jarring. The head naturally pivots into the right angle as it meets the pin box, helping the whole setup connect cleanly every time.
Adjustable hitch height gives you flexibility to dial in your trailer’s level position. Three settings—15-1/2", 17-1/4", and 18"—let you fine-tune for proper clearance between your bed rails and the trailer. Once your height is set, a pin secures the head to the base, and tightening the bolt locks everything down tight with no extra movement or rattle.
The Recon comes apart into two lightweight pieces so you can lift it out of the bed without special tools or equipment. Setup is quick too—attach the base to the included above-bed rails, drop in the head assembly, set your height, and secure it in place. It’s a simple design that saves time when switching between towing duty and using your truck bed for other work.

It is designed to fit the 2002 to 2013 Dodge Ram and Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 series trucks with either a six-foot bed or an eight-food bed. Now on any custom-fit part I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now these installation brackets is what will mount beneath your truck bed, and they provide the attachment points for your Fifth Wheel rails to bolt to.
Now the base rails we do sell separately on our website. It's part number DM6071, and the rails is what will sit in your truck bed and allow installation of the Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch in your truck bed. These custom-fit brackets are designed to mount to the frame using the existing holes in your vehicle's frame. Because of that it'll help minimize drilling, reduces installation time, and it's also designed to avoid any known obstacles along your specific vehicle's frame. These parts are a sturdy steel construction, have a nice black powder coat finish to them to help resist corrosion. All the hardware to install them is included.

I really liked the hitch as it was light and easy to use. I have purchased a new truck and needed a slider as it is a short bed. I purchased the rail kit from etrailer and as always it a superior product.

The Recon is designed to work with industry standard rails however we have seen rails that were not installed correctly in the bed or shifted so that it is throwing off the hole positioning as the rails are independent of each other. I would recommend measuring the rails to ensure that the front to back measurement is 29 inches and the side to side measurement is 22 inches.

Worked great. However after being shocked by high fuel prices and a couple of trips we sold 5th wheel and down sized to a TT, You want to buy a slightly used Demco Hitch?

This Demco 21K fifth wheel hitch is a great piece of equipment. I have pulled my 40 Heartland Bighorn fifth wheel as far north and west as Wisconsin and south and east as Florida. It has performed like I thought it should and beyond. I am sure glad that I chose the Recon over any of the more expensive brands. Its a real performer and it looks pretty cool too!
