Features to know about

Built for Heavy 5th Wheel Loads: 24,000 lbs GTW and 6,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is all about strength and stability. With a gross towing weight rating of 24,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 6,000 lbs, it’s built from sturdy steel and finished with a durable carbide powder coat. The fixed, above-bed design gives you a solid connection point that stays true mile after mile. It’s a heavy-duty setup that feels solid when you’re towing big trailers across long stretches or rough roads.

Quiet, Secure Connection Every Time: Dual Jaw with Full 360-Degree King Pin Contact

The rounded, two-piece jaw system wraps completely around the king pin for full 360-degree contact. That design cuts down on rattle and movement compared to slide-bar models, giving you a ride that’s smoother and quieter. The dual jaw also adds security by locking firmly into place, so you can tow with confidence knowing the connection is tight and steady.

See Your Hitch Status at a Glance: Three-Point Color-Coded Indicator System

Curt’s color-coded lock indicator takes the guesswork out of hitching. A quick look tells you exactly what state the hitch is in—red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means it’s locked for towing. The indicators are visible right from the cab or at the hitch itself, so you can double-check your connection in seconds before hitting the road.

Smooth Hookups and Turns: Spherical Axial Bearing with Cushioned 360-Degree Pivot

The self-aligning head pivots on a spherical axial bearing for true 360-degree movement. It tilts smoothly front to back and side to side while built-in cushioning absorbs road shock. That means easier hookup alignment and less clunking or chucking when driving over uneven surfaces. The included plastic lube plate also lets the king pin glide easily into place during hookup.

Easy to Handle When You Need Your Bed Back: Two-Pin Head Removal with Quick Access Grease Fittings

When it’s time to clear the bed, pop two pins and lift off the head—one person can do it without special tools. Three easy-to-access grease fittings keep maintenance simple, while adjustable height settings from 13" to 17" help you dial in the perfect trailer level. It’s practical design through and through, made to handle real towing life without slowing you down.

Video Transcript for Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch: The Breakdown

Today we'll be reviewing the Curt Q24 fifth wheel trailer hitch with dual jaws, rated at 24,000 lbs. It's part number C16245. This Curt fifth wheel hitch is made from sturdy steel with a durable carbide powder coat finish. It has a gross towing weight capacity of 24,000 lbs., and a vertical load capacity of 6,000 lbs. The height adjustment range is 13" to 17", and it's all covered by a 10-year warranty. We'll go ahead and install our fifth wheel onto our rales.

With the weight of this 5th wheel, you'll need an extra set of hands to help put it into place. We'll now use the four pins and clips to secure the hitch into the rails. We'll slide the pins through the rails and hitch feet here, and install the clip on the other side. As you can see, with the pin in place, the fifth wheel is secure. Now we'll repeat this with the other pins.

With all of our pins in place, we can now go over some of the features of the Q24 fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel is equipped with a dual jaw locking system, which provides 360 degrees of contact between the jaw and the king pin. Another great features is the top plate has 360 degrees of movement, side to side, front to back, and diagonal. This fifth wheel also has a 3-point indicator system in which everything is color coded to let you know when your hitch is coupled, uncoupled, and ready to tow. It's also visible from within the cab of the truck.

This hitch also has 4" of height adjustment to help better fit the height of your trailer. You can see these two holes here, which are two points of adjustment. At this time, we have it set at the second set of adjustment points underneath. Another great feature of this fifth wheel is the ability to fit almost all industry standard rails, such as Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, ProSeries, Valley, and of course the Curt rails. Keep in mind thought that specific rails are not included with this fifth wheel.

Now that we've gone over some of the features and specs, we'll now demonstrate how this fifth wheel hitch works. For demonstration purposes, we'll be using this king pin simulator to show you how it works. To uncouple the trailer, there's a pin located on the back side of this lever, which will flip out and undo. We'll flip out this lever and pull out our handle, which will allow the king pin to move out of the jaws. You can see the red bar here as well as the red dot and the color indicator, which tells us we're in the uncoupled position. Moving the handle one section in, the indicator is now yellow, which means we're ready to couple the trailer. Again using the trailer simulator, we'll slide it into position. You'll see now that the indicator is in the green position, which tells us we're ready to tow. Now we can lock the handle back in place with this lever and clip. Now we're ready to head down the road. And there you have it for the Curt Q24 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16245.

very nice hitch , shipped relay fast 3 days to east coast, easy to install : had rails from old hitch,
it did come a LITTLE scratched up from shipping . one thing i wish it had more height / it does sit lower than old hitch buy 1 inch. haven't tried pulling yet / will up date latter . hope it pulls as good as it looks.
now no problem for bigger trailer, i hope! maybe a toy hauler?

so far the hitch has performed wonderfully . used it to make a trip down to Florida last fall from Va. to pick up a new landmark, witch had a heaver hitch wt. the new hitch seem to make the trip worry free

by:
I purchased a higher rated (weight) Curt hitch to prevent 'rolling' forward during hard stops. The new hitch far exceeds my trailer weight but I continue to have the problem, although not as often. I had the new hitch professionally installed.

It turned out the Curt hitch was not the problem, it was the pinbox which ultimately failed and was replaced by that manufacturer in June.

by:
Have not had the opportunity to use the new hitch to pull our RV, but did hook up to the RV to check height and ease of hookup, it's great, very happy with this hitch so far.
Ease of ordering was excellent, received it within 5 days in great condition.

In the last year we have pulled a 16,000 lb Jayco 5th Wheel over 3,200 miles, up and down mountains and across flat lands with no problems. Still easy hookup and no troubles with it latching or in latching. We grease it and re-torque the bolts as per manufacturer recommendation, a little routine preventive maintenance goes a long way. Still very happy with the hitch, and would definitely recommend it, and have several times.

I love dealing with Etrailer, unit came in one piece and early......and OMG this hitch is incredible!! 4 bolts and it's in. I hitched up literally in minutes. CURT makes it idiot proof...

Honestly, this is the best hitch I have ever bought. Hitching up is simple and its definitely a better buy then anything else in its class.

I bought this hitch because I am a firm believer in buy heavier than I need for safety. This hitch has been absolutely wonderful. The fifth wheel pull great with no jarring and the solid feel when attached is comforting. I can easily reach everything I need to set the hitch and lock it. The jaws are very easy to tell if I am completely hooked or not and the lock works great for a quick look to tell if ready. This hitch was very well priced (cheaper than lighter rated models) without being of "cheap" quality. I have enjoyed this hitch very much and thank goodness it breaks down into pieces for removal as it is a very heavy unit.

2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty
Got my Curt Q24 finally. A very good, quality, heavy hitch. It was just a little scratched up, in same spots as all others seems to post - do to shipping by UPS. Etrailer did double box it to help, so all in all it wasn't bad. It is definitely a heavy hitch, but being able to quickly break it into pieces (head removes easily) makes it much more manageable to put in and out of the truck. Can't wait for the trailer to get in so I can try out this hitch...
Installed onto Curt rails in a 2006 F350, with no issue. Will be pulling a 18k 43' 5er soon!
Shipping was a bit on the slow side compared to other reviews - took 2 weeks to get it, but luckily my trailer is also delayed so I didn't need it immediately.
by:
Like the way hitch latches and easybto install
by:
Haven't towed with it yet,but looks like it will be more user friendly than my previous hitch.I had to adjust my rails a little to get it to fit.Shipping speed was excellent. While etrailer wrapped and stapled over the manufacturer box the contents when opened had several places where the paint was missing due to parts rubbing together during shipment.
by:
Always quick shipping and great prices !! Thanks Again

Hitch works amazing ! I have owned about a dozen different 5th wheel hitches and this one is the easiest to use and tell it 100 locked on the trailer

2006 Chevrolet Silverado
Ordered my Curt 24k 5th wheel hitch on Tuesday, received around 230 Friday, and was installed by 5pm same day ( already had the rails). I am anxious to hook up my Heartland Big Country 3650RL to my 2006 Chevrolet dually and roll down the highway.
The hitch is alI i expected it to be, and it is quite heavy, but managed to get it installed by myself after reading the great installation instructions. As in other posts, slight scratches during shipping due to packing materials used by Curt, not etrailer's fault.
My RV has a tongue weight of 2350 lbs, 14000 overall, and 39'6" lenghth. Expectations are high that this hitch will handle it well! Thanks for the great service
by:
2016 Dodge Ram Pickup
We took it to a shop to have it installed. It looks great, and the features to make sure our 5th wheel is securely locked in place give us peace of mind. And it's nice that the rails are made just for our 2016 Ram 3500 long bed. It really is well made and is a brute. Can't wait to get out on the road.

Received my hitch very quickly, two days with free shipping. However, the hitch did arrive with a couple scraps. The company needs to work on the packaging and shipping prep. That being said, I am very happy with the hitch and the company. I called them prior to buying it and they answered all my questions, very helpful. I'd definitely buy another product from them.

We had a short bed Ram 2500 and upgraded to a Ram 3500 Dually. We had a Demco Auto slide hitch in the old truck that worked well but I wanted to get back to basics without all the moving parts and noise. This hitch performed beyond my expectations. I couldn't be more happy! And as usual the Etrailer experiance was exceptional! 3 day delivery right to the place I was having it installed and in excellent condition. If only the rest of my life could move so smoothly!!!!!

Excellent product. It allows you to choose between gooseneck and 5th wheel towing without having to destroy a factory installed gooseneck hitch! So glad I purchased this hitch! I would definitely purchase it again if I needed to!

I received this box four days later than the hitch mount box, but that was due to the shipping company, not E-trailer! I assembled and installed the hitch, yet removed in preparation for the spray-in bed liner. It's easy to assemble and seperate into two more manageable pieces. Can't wait to start hauling the RV!

Still using and I really like the hitch and other items I purchased a year ago. After installing the Curt fifthwheel hitch, Ive used it several times and I will be using it a bunch over rbe next several weeks. Easy to maintain and use.

by:
Very strong hitch. I like that it easily can be taken apart, makes it not so heavy to install. Glad it has grease fittings, should last longer. Positive indication of locking to kingpin. Came within 2 days of placing the order.
Dual jaws give a sense of security.

Arrived timely in a very well protected carton. Handled shipping better than any other 150 lb item I received in a cardboard box. There are a few small scratches but nothing that some minor touch-up (semi-gloss?) won't take care of. Was able to put it together alone and install in the mounting rails in about 30 minutes. Heavier than my old 15k hitch but not so heavy I can't position it alone. May enlist help when it's time to put it away in the fall.

A full season of use and couldnt be happier. This hitch absorbs most highway chuck and is surprisingly quiet.

by:
Easy to use. Hook up is smooth. The draw handle pulls easily when ready to disconnect. Just be sure to have the weight of the trailer off of the truck before trying to pull the handle. I have found that the handle does not always lock in the open position and occasionally needs to be held open as the truck is driven forward.

Working great. To update about the handle not always locking open: This was due to operator error, I was not properly engaging the latch catch.

by:
Delivery was on time and the hitch was as described. When I opened the box the manufacturer failed to include the mounting hardware. I contacted etrailer customer service and missing items were shipped - service after the sale was excellent.

To tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2007 Dodge Ram with a 6-1/2 foot bed you will need to install base rails in your truck bed in order to mount a Curt sliding hitch. Base rails come with installation kits and there are two different options for an '07 Dodge Ram, depending on the model of your truck; I will list the kits and you can select the right one. I recommend using a custom kit like # C16420-204 that cuts the installation time in half because there is no drilling required. This kit includes the brackets, rails, and hardware needed. We also offer the semi-custom installation kit, part # C16301-200. This kit does require drilling when installing,...

  • Recommended Non-Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2012 Ram 3500 with Ramboxes
For your 2012 Ram 3500 with Ramboxes, since you don't need a sliding hitch I recommend using the Curt Q20 # C16130 and base rails # C16301-200. This hitch has a 20,000-lbs capacity and the base rail kit is a custom installation for your Ram 3500, so it will limit any drilling into the frame that might otherwise be required on a universal base rail kit. The Q series hitches are a nice value option that provide you with a fully pivoting, 360 degree movement, hitch head to help give you a...

For a custom kit that will not require drilling into the truck frame you can use Curt kit # C16420-204 or Reese kit # RP50140-58. Or for a semi-custom kit that does require some frame drilling you can use Reese kit # RP30035-023 if the truck does not have overload springs or # RP30035-186 if the truck does have overload...

Then the installation will be similar to that of installation kit # RP30035-023. However, if your truck has overload springs, which is likely on a 3500 series, then this installation kit will not work. So instead of the Curt hitch and universal installation kit I recommend the Curt Semi-Custom kit, # C16301-200, which does...

Worst case scenario we do have a replacement head unit for the A25 with the part #C16580.

  • Problem with Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Not Easily Releasing Pin To Disconnect
I reached out to my contact at Curt and walked him through your issue and process to disconnect. He said the issue sounds like you are taking too much weight off of the hitch. You may want to try a little more weight on the hitch and a bit less on the jacks. He also recommended that when unhitched to check the connection and disconnection with either a plastic king...

I am sorry to hear about your problem with your Curt Q24 5th wheel hitch # C16245. With a trailer as large and heavy as a 42-foot Montana it will be critical to have the trailer and truck on level ground and in a straight line with each other for all coupling and uncoupling processes. Any tension between the king pin and the hitch's jaw will make it difficult for the jaw mechanism to open to release the king pin. The Q24 has a color indicator system that tells you the status of the hitch,...

  • Is My Curt Q24 5th Wheel Hitch Compatible With My Rota-Flex Pin Box?
That is correct, your Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16245 is not compatible with Rota-Flex pin boxes like the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328330. This is due to the pivoting system in the pin box and the pivoting system in the hitch head working against each other which can ultimately lead to the hitch head failing. Instead, your only other option is to replace your pin box, or replace your 5th wheel hitch with something that is compatible with your pin box. I recommend...
