The Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch keeps heavy-duty performance but drops the bulk. Weighing just 60 lbs—65% lighter than a standard 5th wheel hitch—it’s easy to lift out of the bed without equipment. The two-piece body with built-in grip points makes installation, removal, and storage simple. You still get a robust steel construction rated for 20,000 lbs gross towing weight and 5,000 lbs vertical load, finished in a corrosion-resistant carbide black powder coat for long-lasting strength.

Hooking up doesn’t have to be guesswork. The CrossWing uses a wedge-shaped coupler that bolts around your trailer’s king pin and mates with a large, open-faced funnel on the hitch head. It gives you a clear view of the connection right from your backup or 3rd-brake-light camera. The angled contact surface helps guide the coupler perfectly into place—no more high pinning or climbing in and out to check alignment. Once seated, an easy-to-reach ergonomic handle locks it in for towing.

Towing a big camper or toy hauler usually means feeling every bump, but Curt’s ShockDrop isolator changes that. The polyurethane material at the hitch’s pivot point absorbs jerking, jarring, and chucking between truck and trailer. It keeps your setup stable and your ride quieter with less vibration through the cab and coach. You’ll notice better control and reduced wear on both ends of the connection mile after mile.
When you’re hitching up on sloped ground or maneuvering into tight sites, the fully articulating head of the CrossWing moves fore, aft, and laterally for precise alignment. The built-in 5" offset improves cab clearance for safer turning—especially valuable when backing into campsites or fuel stations. Three height settings from 16-3/8" to 20-3/8" let you fine-tune your trailer’s level for a balanced tow setup.
Even with its lightweight design, the CrossWing doesn’t cut corners on strength. Premium steel components reinforce key stress points for reliable performance up to its full 20,000-lb rating. It meets SAE J2638 testing standards for fifth wheel hitches and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Between its rugged build and simple operation, this hitch delivers heavy-duty capability in a package you can handle solo.

It is super nice how much easier it is to manage this one vs. other styles on the market. Really happy that this got rid of the chucking! We'd love a photo of the new set up if you feel like sending one in. I can add it to your original review :)

One later and Still love it, I switched trucks to one that has a puck system, but bought an adapter plate cause I really like the hitch. The only drawback is leaving the adapter on the camper. If you have to move it with something else you can always take the two bolts off and remove it.

Two things have occurred to me over the past year: First, as I previously stated, this hitch is lighter than most any other “FW hitch” — light enough to be the target of “crimes of opportunity”. Easily enough rectified, Curt manufacturers a lock 23256 which offers some deterrence to theft. Second item, which may or not be an issue for others, pulling with our first, traditional FW hitch I made it a point to run our rig across a scale, GVWRGCWR was within limits. Recently we crossed another scale, I was surprised to see the GCWR had actually gone down, then I remembered the Crosswing… our previous hitch was HEAVY. Just a nice surprise.

Let me know how the first tow goes, Eric! Are you heading somewhere fun or more for work?

Other than the handle on the locking bar coming loose, the hitch has performed well. Curt responded by sending me a new handle- with the special screw- to correct the issue. Something to monitor if you have the Crosswing.

Do you have a question about this 5th Wheel Hitch?
