Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

My only negative response is that the packaging. Hitch had a couple scratches due to it bouncing around while in transit. B&W should improve their packaging.
6000 miles towing this year; loaded trailer weight 16,480 lbs (based on CAT scale weight tickets).
Hitch is awesome. Very secure with no noticeable chucking. I can remove and install this hitch by myself. The two pieces are very manageable.
My fifth B&W hitch over the years; 2 turnover ball goosenecks and 2 tow & stows. Quality hitches which I recommend highly.

I had done a good deal of research on hitches, and this earns every star. This is a rugged, heavy duty , American made hitch. It arrives three days after I ordered it, which was phenomenal. E-Trailer acknowledged the order, provided a tracking link, and followed to to confirm it had actually been delivered. Unlike some reviews I’ve see, it arrived in perfect condition, not a scratch or a ding. Instruction were clear, assembly quick and easy. B&W and Etrailer, top notch in my opinion.The best customer service I’ve seen in some time.

Absolutely remains an excellent product.
This was an excellent choice. Fit perfectly with the factory 5th wheel from factory. Also under our roll and bed cover so was out of site when not in use. Can easily see in rear camera 1 when connecting to our rv and being able to handle lock. When received easy to assemble. Highly recommend.
Very happy with the B&W hitch we received. etrailer and their staff were excellent to work with. Shipping was sooner than projected. And the installation was extremely easy. Would absolutely use etrailer again as well as B&W products. Thank you all!

After getting to use the B&W hitch several times now with our 5th wheel this remains a great product. Very easy to take in-and-out of the truck when not in use. Easy hookup and disconnect to the trailer. Very smooth ride with very minimal chucking. We pull a 40 5th wheel toy hauler. As noted in original review, I would definitely recommend this hitch as well as purchasing from etrailer!

I Purchased for a new 2024, GMC AT4 3500. etrailer shipped it immediately. I had it in a few days. The directions were good and it was not too much trouble putting it together. The only thing negative was the hitch was scratched in shipping, the headpiece was boxed nicely and was unscathed. The base looked like a golf ball in a Popcaan. It had bounce back-and-forth and had scratched up part of the base. I contacted the trainer and they got me a touchup paint. hopefully will cover up the scratches. Other than that the hitch looks extremely well-built.

The hitch has been wonderful, the two-piece construction, make it much easier to install and remove than a standard one piece hitch. The hitch performs wonderfully, not a lot of clanking under power or breaking. It’s easy to hook up and unhook. I’d highly recommend this hitch.
Packaging could be better but was still all intact, just the boxes aren’t quite heavy enough to shipping company’s to throw around (like they do)
I have a fuel cell in my bed as well, hitch fit great and I just cut down the front locking twist handles to clear my tank

This hitch is easy to install and adjust, works great and handles my 16,800 GVWR 5th wheel very well. The only issue I have is finding locks for the handles. The paint is starting to peel in a few small places but after a year of use. I would highly recommend this hitch. its two pieces makes it easy to take out of the bed also!
Awesome hitch! I should have gotten the highest weight rating because, well, you never know what trailer you may end up with in the future.
My B & W fifth wheel hitch arrived on time and no damage to the box. Removed hitch, installed it in two hours. Looks great, will be picking up my trailer in two weeks, know it will work good and safe.

Still working great! So glad I bought this hitch, having talked to many other fifth wheel owners that brought other brands and hear their problems and disappointments only reinforces my good decision to buy the B&W!
Very easy assembly after you figure out height. I have a 2020 GMC Denali 3500 Dually, and went with the highest height. My slide tonneau cover still slides perfect with no contact. Great solid product!
Excellent product. Put it in my 2022 SB HD Duramax for my new fifth wheel. Good price and great company to deal with!

This is a top notch, very well built hitch. Dropped right in to my oem puck system on a 2024 Chev 2500 hd. The first hookup was so smooth that I wasn’t sure I was even on my kingpin.
E trailer had it delivered the next day from ordering!! The other important thing to note is this hitch takes up a 17” x 30” footprint which is way smaller than an Andersen base.
Easy to assemble and install in my 2023 GMC 3500HD Long Bed with the OEM Puck System.

After one year, the hitch doesn’t have a single rust spot on it, and it’s been sitting outside most of the time. Works and looks like the day I got it!
this is the only fifth wheel hitch that I have purchased, but we did do a lot of research and this was one that was highly recommended. We’ve had it for just over a year now with no issues. Highly recommended.
Great looking hitch and is somewhat lighter than the B&W Companion I had that was used with the gooseneck, but still rated at 20,000 lbs.

This is a great hitch. It is rock solid. I especially like it because the head comes off which makes it easier to handle for 74 year old man.
This is the Mack daddy 5th wheel hitch. Makes our solid Rhino Box ride nice and smooth with barely any chucking at all. Easy to remove, two piece with one person removal. Highly recommended!!

The B&W hitch works great. We just got back from a 7,000 mile
West coast road trip. Many stops of hitching and un-hitching with no issues. 33 foot fifth wheel pulled like it wasn’t even there.
This hitch has been great and very easy to use. It has a very positive closing mechanism so there is no doubt that you have the pin captured. Also, the fact that it separates into two pieces makes it relatively easy for one person to take it in and out of the truck bed.
I think the product is great and will perform well for a lot of traveling!
However the packaging was in really bad shape when the hitch arrived. I am very, very surprised that nothing was scratched or missing!
Assembly was easy after watching the videos.

The hitch has worked out well. It’s Easy to hook up and remove and reinstall in the truck! It looks really good too. We’ve gone about 8000 miles towing with it.
Damaged. Both pieces came in factory B&W boxes. Both boxes have accessory packets inside. Those accessories are very heavy and not packaged very well. They are free to bounce around in the box and put chips all over in the powder coat paint. Now it is going to rust! For $1300 you think they could use $2 in packing paper. My packages were tossed about by at least a dozen people according to the tracking. All I can say is that this is poor.
Etrailer on the other hand is being very helpful in resolving some of my problems. They are sending a new coupler with no questions asked. The handle is bent from the rough trip making it impossible to use. Amy was a pleasure to work with. Hopefully the next one will be ok.

Love b&w products! Only negative is the boxes the head and base showed up in were so beat up! I was almost scared to open to find damage but there wasn't any thankfully.
We used this to haul our 5th wheel across the country, through the from MD to CO,UT, CA,OR, WA,ID, MT and round trip back to MD! This hitch worked extremely well! Highly recommend! Easy to put in and set up and easy to use!
