Features to know about

Built to Tow Heavy 5th Wheels with Confidence: 24,000 lbs GTW and 6,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This Curt Q24 is a heavy-duty fixed fifth-wheel hitch rated for 24,000 lbs gross towing weight and 6,000 lbs vertical load. The sturdy steel construction and carbide powder coat finish give it long-lasting strength you can count on for serious towing. It’s designed to deliver solid performance for large fifth wheels, offering the kind of stability that keeps both truck and trailer steady mile after mile.

Quiet, Secure Connection Every Time: Dual Jaw with 360-Degree Contact

The Q24’s rounded, two-piece dual jaw wraps completely around the trailer’s king pin for full 360-degree contact. That design reduces rattle and movement compared to slide-bar models, giving you a quieter, more secure hookup that feels locked in once you roll out. The built-in cushioning helps absorb road shock so the ride feels smoother and more controlled on rough stretches.

Know Exactly When You’re Locked In: Color-Coded 3-Point Indicator System

No guessing or second looks—Curt’s color-coded indicator shows your hitch status at a glance. Red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re locked in for towing. You can see the indicators right from the cab or beside the truck, so you always know when it’s safe to pull out.

Curt Q24 fifth-wheel trailer hitch showing the color-coded indicator system with visible red, yellow, and green positions for uncoupling, coupling, and towing.

Smooth Hookups Made Easy: Self-Aligning Head and Spherical Axial Bearing

The hitch head pivots smoothly on Curt’s unique spherical axial bearing, allowing 360-degree movement instead of just front-to-back or side-to-side tilt. This makes it easier to line up with your trailer on uneven ground and keeps things moving quietly once you’re hitched. The included lube plate helps the king pin glide into place without fuss, cutting down on friction during hookup.

Simplified Removal for Truck Bed Space: Two-Pin Head Design

When you’re done towing, the Q24 breaks down easily thanks to its two-pin head removal system. One person can lift off the head without special tools, freeing up bed space fast. It’s a practical touch that makes it simple to switch between hauling mode and everyday use without wrestling heavy components.

Video Transcript for Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch: The Breakdown

Today we'll be reviewing the Curt Q24 fifth wheel trailer hitch with dual jaws, rated at 24,000 lbs. It's part number C16245. This Curt fifth wheel hitch is made from sturdy steel with a durable carbide powder coat finish. It has a gross towing weight capacity of 24,000 lbs., and a vertical load capacity of 6,000 lbs. The height adjustment range is 13" to 17", and it's all covered by a 10-year warranty. We'll go ahead and install our fifth wheel onto our rales.

With the weight of this 5th wheel, you'll need an extra set of hands to help put it into place. We'll now use the four pins and clips to secure the hitch into the rails. We'll slide the pins through the rails and hitch feet here, and install the clip on the other side. As you can see, with the pin in place, the fifth wheel is secure. Now we'll repeat this with the other pins.

With all of our pins in place, we can now go over some of the features of the Q24 fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel is equipped with a dual jaw locking system, which provides 360 degrees of contact between the jaw and the king pin. Another great features is the top plate has 360 degrees of movement, side to side, front to back, and diagonal. This fifth wheel also has a 3-point indicator system in which everything is color coded to let you know when your hitch is coupled, uncoupled, and ready to tow. It's also visible from within the cab of the truck.

This hitch also has 4" of height adjustment to help better fit the height of your trailer. You can see these two holes here, which are two points of adjustment. At this time, we have it set at the second set of adjustment points underneath. Another great feature of this fifth wheel is the ability to fit almost all industry standard rails, such as Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, ProSeries, Valley, and of course the Curt rails. Keep in mind thought that specific rails are not included with this fifth wheel.

Now that we've gone over some of the features and specs, we'll now demonstrate how this fifth wheel hitch works. For demonstration purposes, we'll be using this king pin simulator to show you how it works. To uncouple the trailer, there's a pin located on the back side of this lever, which will flip out and undo. We'll flip out this lever and pull out our handle, which will allow the king pin to move out of the jaws. You can see the red bar here as well as the red dot and the color indicator, which tells us we're in the uncoupled position. Moving the handle one section in, the indicator is now yellow, which means we're ready to couple the trailer. Again using the trailer simulator, we'll slide it into position. You'll see now that the indicator is in the green position, which tells us we're ready to tow. Now we can lock the handle back in place with this lever and clip. Now we're ready to head down the road. And there you have it for the Curt Q24 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16245.

very nice hitch , shipped relay fast 3 days to east coast, easy to install : had rails from old hitch,
it did come a LITTLE scratched up from shipping . one thing i wish it had more height / it does sit lower than old hitch buy 1 inch. haven't tried pulling yet / will up date latter . hope it pulls as good as it looks.
now no problem for bigger trailer, i hope! maybe a toy hauler?

so far the hitch has performed wonderfully . used it to make a trip down to Florida last fall from Va. to pick up a new landmark, witch had a heaver hitch wt. the new hitch seem to make the trip worry free

by:
I purchased a higher rated (weight) Curt hitch to prevent 'rolling' forward during hard stops. The new hitch far exceeds my trailer weight but I continue to have the problem, although not as often. I had the new hitch professionally installed.

It turned out the Curt hitch was not the problem, it was the pinbox which ultimately failed and was replaced by that manufacturer in June.

by:
Have not had the opportunity to use the new hitch to pull our RV, but did hook up to the RV to check height and ease of hookup, it's great, very happy with this hitch so far.
Ease of ordering was excellent, received it within 5 days in great condition.

In the last year we have pulled a 16,000 lb Jayco 5th Wheel over 3,200 miles, up and down mountains and across flat lands with no problems. Still easy hookup and no troubles with it latching or in latching. We grease it and re-torque the bolts as per manufacturer recommendation, a little routine preventive maintenance goes a long way. Still very happy with the hitch, and would definitely recommend it, and have several times.

I love dealing with Etrailer, unit came in one piece and early......and OMG this hitch is incredible!! 4 bolts and it's in. I hitched up literally in minutes. CURT makes it idiot proof...

Honestly, this is the best hitch I have ever bought. Hitching up is simple and its definitely a better buy then anything else in its class.

I bought this hitch because I am a firm believer in buy heavier than I need for safety. This hitch has been absolutely wonderful. The fifth wheel pull great with no jarring and the solid feel when attached is comforting. I can easily reach everything I need to set the hitch and lock it. The jaws are very easy to tell if I am completely hooked or not and the lock works great for a quick look to tell if ready. This hitch was very well priced (cheaper than lighter rated models) without being of "cheap" quality. I have enjoyed this hitch very much and thank goodness it breaks down into pieces for removal as it is a very heavy unit.

Got my Curt Q24 finally. A very good, quality, heavy hitch. It was just a little scratched up, in same spots as all others seems to post - do to shipping by UPS. Etrailer did double box it to help, so all in all it wasn't bad. It is definitely a heavy hitch, but being able to quickly break it into pieces (head removes easily) makes it much more manageable to put in and out of the truck. Can't wait for the trailer to get in so I can try out this hitch...
Installed onto Curt rails in a 2006 F350, with no issue. Will be pulling a 18k 43' 5er soon!
Shipping was a bit on the slow side compared to other reviews - took 2 weeks to get it, but luckily my trailer is also delayed so I didn't need it immediately.
by:
Haven't towed with it yet,but looks like it will be more user friendly than my previous hitch.I had to adjust my rails a little to get it to fit.Shipping speed was excellent. While etrailer wrapped and stapled over the manufacturer box the contents when opened had several places where the paint was missing due to parts rubbing together during shipment.
by:
Always quick shipping and great prices !! Thanks Again

Hitch works amazing ! I have owned about a dozen different 5th wheel hitches and this one is the easiest to use and tell it 100 locked on the trailer

Ordered my Curt 24k 5th wheel hitch on Tuesday, received around 230 Friday, and was installed by 5pm same day ( already had the rails). I am anxious to hook up my Heartland Big Country 3650RL to my 2006 Chevrolet dually and roll down the highway.
The hitch is alI i expected it to be, and it is quite heavy, but managed to get it installed by myself after reading the great installation instructions. As in other posts, slight scratches during shipping due to packing materials used by Curt, not etrailer's fault.
My RV has a tongue weight of 2350 lbs, 14000 overall, and 39'6" lenghth. Expectations are high that this hitch will handle it well! Thanks for the great service

We took it to a shop to have it installed. It looks great, and the features to make sure our 5th wheel is securely locked in place give us peace of mind. And it's nice that the rails are made just for our 2016 Ram 3500 long bed. It really is well made and is a brute. Can't wait to get out on the road.

Received my hitch very quickly, two days with free shipping. However, the hitch did arrive with a couple scraps. The company needs to work on the packaging and shipping prep. That being said, I am very happy with the hitch and the company. I called them prior to buying it and they answered all my questions, very helpful. I'd definitely buy another product from them.

We had a short bed Ram 2500 and upgraded to a Ram 3500 Dually. We had a Demco Auto slide hitch in the old truck that worked well but I wanted to get back to basics without all the moving parts and noise. This hitch performed beyond my expectations. I couldn't be more happy! And as usual the Etrailer experiance was exceptional! 3 day delivery right to the place I was having it installed and in excellent condition. If only the rest of my life could move so smoothly!!!!!

Excellent product. It allows you to choose between gooseneck and 5th wheel towing without having to destroy a factory installed gooseneck hitch! So glad I purchased this hitch! I would definitely purchase it again if I needed to!

I received this box four days later than the hitch mount box, but that was due to the shipping company, not E-trailer! I assembled and installed the hitch, yet removed in preparation for the spray-in bed liner. It's easy to assemble and seperate into two more manageable pieces. Can't wait to start hauling the RV!

The customer service is excellent, and the staff at etrailer knows their stuff. I watch all of the RV-related YouTube videos. I discount/ignore the not-so-bright influencers. When I see a product that would be of value, I log onto etrailer and order it.
by:
Very strong hitch. I like that it easily can be taken apart, makes it not so heavy to install. Glad it has grease fittings, should last longer. Positive indication of locking to kingpin. Came within 2 days of placing the order.
Dual jaws give a sense of security.

Arrived timely in a very well protected carton. Handled shipping better than any other 150 lb item I received in a cardboard box. There are a few small scratches but nothing that some minor touch-up (semi-gloss?) won't take care of. Was able to put it together alone and install in the mounting rails in about 30 minutes. Heavier than my old 15k hitch but not so heavy I can't position it alone. May enlist help when it's time to put it away in the fall.

A full season of use and couldnt be happier. This hitch absorbs most highway chuck and is surprisingly quiet.

by:
Easy to use. Hook up is smooth. The draw handle pulls easily when ready to disconnect. Just be sure to have the weight of the trailer off of the truck before trying to pull the handle. I have found that the handle does not always lock in the open position and occasionally needs to be held open as the truck is driven forward.

Working great. To update about the handle not always locking open: This was due to operator error, I was not properly engaging the latch catch.

by:
Delivery was on time and the hitch was as described. When I opened the box the manufacturer failed to include the mounting hardware. I contacted etrailer customer service and missing items were shipped - service after the sale was excellent.

  • Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch that is Easily Removed on 2014 Ram 1500
Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight. Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add...

  • What is Towing Capacity of 2010 Dodge Ram 4.7 Liter with Tow Package
Looks like your 2010 Ram 1500 with a 4.7 liter V8 would have a towing capacity of 7,650 lbs if you have a 2 wheel drive truck or 7,450 lbs if you have a 4 wheel drive truck. Those two figures would be the absolute max trailer weight you could tow with your truck. The Curt universal slider hitch and rail kit part C16616 won't work for you though as the rail kit does not fit your truck. Instead you'd need the semi-custom rail kit part # C16306-204 which fits your truck and then the E16 slider...

Due to the short bed on your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab, the only way you will be able to successfully tow a fifth wheel trailer without having the front of the trailer loft strike the rear of the cab during turns would be to use a Sidewinder extended pin box. The challenge is that the Ramboxes make the inside of the truck be significantly more narrow, which means the pin box will strike the sides of the bed during turns. Plus, because the bed is so much more narrow, with most hitches you won't be able to pull out the latch handle out far enough to open the hitch jaws because the handle ends up hitting the bed side. The good news is that we do offer a solution...

  • Economical Fifth Wheel Towing Setup Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 1500
The most economical solution we offer for towing a fifth wheel trailer with your 2014 Ram 1500 6 foot bed is going to be the Curt Slider hitch part # 16516 which will give you enough clearance to make tight turns and then the rail kit part # C16306-204.

  • Fifth Wheel Install Rail/Bracket Kit for 2012 Dodge Ram 1500
If you have a Curt sliding fifth wheel hitch like the # C16541, I'd recommend the Curt # C16306-204 which is a semi-custom kit that would require drilling into the truck frame. To shave approximately 1 hour off that install process, Reese offers the # RP50142-58 which doesn't require drilling into the truck frame. Either kit provides industry standard bed rails, which are compatible with your Curt hitch. If you don't already have a 7-way trailer connector installed in your truck bed, you...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit and Sliding Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 1500 Short Bed
There is a rail kit available that will work on your 2014 Ram 1500 without air suspension. Check out the Curt Fifth Wheel Installation kit part # C16306-204. This rail kit is compatible with Curt fifth wheel hitches. For a 16k slider hitch I like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR. The jaws of this hitch provide 360 degree contact with the king pin to minimize jarring and chucking.

  • Can Curt E16 Slider Hitch Install in 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Short Bed
We can help you use the Curt E16k slider hitch # 16516 in the bed of your 2020 Ram 1500 Classic but this truck needs a custom install kit as the universal rail kits won't fit like what comes with the # C16616. So you'd need the custom rail kit part # C16306-204 as well.

If your Ram is a 2500 or 3500 series, the # C16420-204 is the correct install kit. For a 1500 series, you would need the # C16306-204. Installation instructions are indeed included with the install kit, and the instructions do feature dimensions for where the bed rails are placed and exactly where holes are drilled through the bed to connect the frame brackets and bed rails. • Why is Curt Fifth Wheel Rail kit C16306-204 for 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 Considered a Semi-Custom Kit
Semi-custom rail kits like the part # C16306-204 that you referenced mean that they will require frame drilling basically like a universal kit. However, since your 2015 Ram 1500 with a short bed isn't compatible with the standard L-bracket fifth wheel rail universal brackets custom brackets needed to be made. So it's semi-custom because the brackets are designed specifically to fit your truck, but they would require you to drill into the frame to install so it's actually going to install...

  • Troubleshooting Curt A25 Fifth Wheel Hitch that Has Stuck Latch
Hey Mark that is a bummer to hear. Have you been lubricating it at all this time? I know it's easy to forget to do that but if you do skip the components can get frozen up and hard to use. So I would go with your next plan and grease it up real nice like and I would be willing to bet it will work again. Worst case scenario we do have a replacement head unit for the A25 with the part #C16580.

  • Problem with Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Not Easily Releasing Pin To Disconnect

You may want to try a little more weight on the hitch and a bit less on the jacks. He also recommended that when unhitched to check the connection and disconnection with either a plastic king...

I am sorry to hear about your problem with your Curt Q24 5th wheel hitch # C16245. With a trailer as large and heavy as a 42-foot Montana it will be critical to have the trailer and truck on level ground and in a straight line with each other for all coupling and uncoupling processes. Any tension between the king pin and the hitch's jaw will make it difficult for the jaw mechanism to open to release the king pin. The Q24 has a color indicator system that tells you the status of the hitch,...

  • Is My Curt Q24 5th Wheel Hitch Compatible With My Rota-Flex Pin Box?
That is correct, your Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16245 is not compatible with Rota-Flex pin boxes like the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328330. This is due to the pivoting system in the pin box and the pivoting system in the hitch head working against each other which can ultimately lead to the hitch head failing. Instead, your only other option is to replace your pin box, or replace your 5th wheel hitch with something that is compatible with your pin box. I recommend...

Assuming that you've got industry standard rails like the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30035 you won't have a problem adding another 5th wheel hitch with a higher capacity. • What is the Best Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
You are doing the right thing by doing the research first. There is a lot of conflicting information out there so let me break it down for you and I will provide some part recommendations at the end. Half ton trucks could work but are not nearly as capable as the larger trucks. A long bed for sure is something you will...
