Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easy to Couple and Uncouple

auto latch and cable

The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

My hitch arrived earlier than expected and the process was excellent. I haven't gotten it put on yet but will on Monday. So far it's good to have good people from e-trailer living up to their promises. I'll continue to go back again and again.

  • Gen-Y 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Pin Box For A 2023 Grand Design Reflection 341RDS
Hi Vince, Gen-Y switched production to the newer Snap Latch in December 2023 so anything manufactured from January 2024 and forward would come with the new latch. This is a direct-ship item so you'd be getting it directly from the factory, which would lead to a greater chance that you'll get the Snap Latch since we almost a few months into the year. To determine if this is the correct fit for your Reflection you'll need to determine the bolt pattern for the trailer as well as the fully...

The 4.5K TW Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY33GR comes with the SnapLatch coupler you're asking about, and it will fit your 2023 Grand Design Reflection 341RDS as long as yours came with the Lippert Rhino pin box. I don't have a way to confirm this but you can look at the labeling on your pin box and shoot me some photos of the informational stickers if you're unsure. • Troubleshooting Nose-High Towing With A Grand Design Solitude 5th Wheel Trailer
The Andersen Ultimate # AM3200 does have three separate height settings (15-3/4", 16-7/8", 18") so I would first make sure you don't have the hitch ball at the highest setting. The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY33GR is going to sit a bit lower than a standard pin box king pin to make up for not using a 5th wheel hitch, but would be less of a height difference than your Andersen hitch. These gooseneck pin boxes are bolt pattern and tongue weight range specific...

  • Correct Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for 2024 Brinkley Z2900
Thanks for providing that information it really makes this simple. To find the right Gen-Y we need to calculate your tongue weight using the formula GVWR x 0.22 = TW. The Z2900 has a GVWR of 14,495 lbs so the TW is 3,189 lbs. Based on this calculation you need the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 24K GTW - 4.5K TW # GY33GR.

You could technically use the # RP94716-61301 since you won't exceed the rating but you would be better off with the 20k version instead. Manufacturers recommend only using 80-85% of the capacity so there is a safety margin. You also want to double check the sticker or measure the bolt pattern on your pin box to identify it and make sure you get the correct replacement. For example, this Reese Goose Box fits Lippert 0115, 1116, and 1716. We don't currently have the 20k version since Reese...

Hey Michael, the Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY98GR you're looking at will work just fine with your Brinkley Model Z 29000, so you don't need to use the larger Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY33GR. Hi Daniel; thank you for the pictures. The Reese 94622 you have there is capable of fitting a variety of bolt patterns but unfortunately, it was not designed to replace a Lippert Rhino. It was eventually replaced with the # RP85FR which does have the ability to fit the Rhino Box bolt pattern. The only option would be to sell your old Goose Box and upgrade to the new one so it fits. However, unless you have a tapered nose you won't be able to make those 90 degree turns. If you still want to go this route the correct pin box is determined by using the formula GVWR x .22 = TW.
