Features to know about

Built for Confident 5th Wheel Towing: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is built to handle serious 5th wheel loads—rated for 16,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit. The sturdy steel construction and carbide powder coat finish give it lasting strength and durability for long trips and heavy hauls. It mounts securely in the truck bed using the included base rails and mounting kit, forming a solid, stable connection that inspires confidence every time you tow.

Quieter, Smoother Ride Every Mile: Interlocking Dual Jaw with Fully Articulating Torsion Head

The interlocking two-piece jaw wraps completely around the king pin, giving you true 360-degree contact that cuts down on movement and metal rattle. Paired with the fully articulating torsion head, it keeps towing smooth and controlled over uneven roads. That design helps suppress road shock and reduce towing noise so both truck and trailer feel steady and quiet mile after mile.

Stay in Control with a Quick Glance: Color-Coded Three-Point Indicator

You can tell at a glance whether you’re ready to tow or uncouple thanks to the color-coded three-point indicator system—red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means locked for towing. The indicators are visible from the cab, so there’s no guesswork or extra climbing around when you’re hitching up or disconnecting. The handle also self-resets to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling, making your next hookup straightforward.

More Turning Clearance When You Need It: Non-Binding S20 Slider with 12" Travel

For slow-speed turns where clearance matters most, the included S20 slider gives you 12 inches of fore/aft travel. It moves smoothly without binding to help prevent contact between your trailer and cab during tight maneuvers. The slider automatically latches in both directions and is designed for short-bed setups needing that extra turning space without hassle.

Easy Breakdown for Storage or Bed Space: Fast One-Pin Head Removal

When it’s time to clear out the bed, this hitch makes it simple. The head removes quickly with just one pin, so one person can lift it off without special tools. Built-in zerk fittings make lubrication easy too, keeping the mechanism working smoothly every season. It’s a well-thought-out design that makes towing—and everything in between—feel a little easier.

Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Replacement Head Unit for Curt A16 and Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches from Curt. So if you're getting this as a replacement head it's gonna function just like your old one. You can see right away It's got the same torsion system that's acting as a sort of cushioning system. When we're hooked up to our trailer it's gonna help us create a smoother ride going down the road with that side to side, front to back and even on the diagonal movement, all absorbing that shock but also helping us with the hookup process by moving and meeting the kingpin as we're guiding it back. The dual jaw system here, they overlap with each other to create really solid contact on the kingpin 360 degrees around.

And if we move over to the side here those jaws can be controlled by the handle secured in place by a pin and clip that can be swapped out for a padlock if you want that security aspect, pulling the handle out and back, we'll open up those jaws or in the coupling mode I've got a dummy king pin here that will slide back in. The open flare here will guide it into position and then as it backs up, we're hooking up to our trailer. The handle will snap back into place fully locked in and we can just resecure it with our pin and clip. Now a good way to know if we're fully coupled is the indicator on the back. You can see it's green right now which means we're positively coupled and good to go.

But if I undo that handle here, partially you'll see it switched to that red and in the fully open position it'll switch to yellow letting us know we're ready to back up to our trailer. And then as we back up that kingpin slides in, it'll swing past that red and when it's fully latched in, go back to green. With the positioning of this, it's easy to see from the cab of the truck so you don't have to get out to check on it. You can just look back there and see if you've got a good couple. With the fifth wheel head here we are gonna have a weight capacity.

It can handle 16,000 pounds of gross trailer weight rating. That's how much weight it can pull and has a vertical load limit, that downward pressure of 4,000 pounds. Be sure to check whether it be the leg kit, the slider base or your truck and go by the lowest rating component in the system but know that that's what the fifth wheel head can handle. You've got your three different points of height adjustment on the side. Again, depending on whether you're using the slider base like we are today or the just regular legs that are fixed, that height may change but you do have three different options for the adjustment.

What I can tell you though is that the whole spacing is 2" apart for each interval of that height adjustment. So just take that into account whenever you're setting this up for your truck and trailer combination. The whole fifth wheel head is gonna be a steel construction with a carbide black powder coat finish over top of it to help it resist rust and corrosion over time. Now with any sort of finished scratches and scuffs can be a danger to it because if you scratch away the finish it's way more susceptible to rust and corrosion over time. It does come included though with a lube plate which will sit between the head of the fifth wheel and your pin box with the kingpin right in the center here and reduce that metal on metal contact to make sure that the finish hopefully lasts a lot longer, keeping your whole fifth wheel looking like new. Speaking of keeping things operating like new you do have two zerk fittings on that dual jaw design here. So you can apply grease regularly to keep them operating smoothly. If you don't wanna leave this in your truck bed full-time and you want to take it out, it can be pretty heavy but you can separate the head into two pieces by taking out that first pin and clip and this large pin that runs through the center of the fifth wheel head. And that will allow us to actually separate the head from the body of the fifth wheel here. So it makes everything a lot lighter and easier to get in and out. And with it out you can see the rubber isolators that are located inside. That's part of the torsion system that we're talking about earlier. And what helps cushion the whole movement here and keep everything operating nice and smoothly as well as reducing noise. Being able to break it down really helps with the installation process because you can do it all on your own relatively easily. So let's go ahead and walk through that process with you now. Now since this is a replacement head you could be replacing it on a standard fifth wheel rather than this slider kit that we're doing this with in which case you'll be needing to use the hardware that came with your fifth wheel originally that bolt, lock washer and flat washer that threads into the legs on your A16 hitch. With that being said, if you are missing these, you will need to get new hardware because the hardware that comes with the replacement head is going to be that bolt and nut. Getting this installed, it might be a little easier to have a second set of hands, but if you can grab it by the center and get one of your bolts started just to help hold it in place on either end, that would be ideal and then we can get the nuts installed later after repeating this on both sides. Now at this point you wanna take your wrench and socket and actually start to tighten these down in all four corners and then we can torque it to the specifications found in our instructions. For the torque wrench, it's pretty easy to rent these out or borrow them but if you wanna get your own you can find those here at etrailer. Just make sure to find the proper torque spec and your instructions and repeat that for the other three bolts. With everything torqued down we can take the head unit and drop it down into place, securing it with the large pin going in through the back of the whole assembly and securing out front with our smaller pin and retaining clip. And that's really all there is to it for the installation process, it's gonna be a very basic easy to use replacement for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches. Just deep in mind that if you're replacing one with the standard legs that you do have the appropriate hardware either reusing the old one or getting new hardware. And if you're gonna be dropping it in place in a situation like this with the S20 slider, know that the hardware it comes with is gonna be exactly what you need. But that'll do it for our look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 hitches from Curt. Thanks for watching.

Normally I'm pleased with Curt hardware/equipment, but this time I'm not as impressed. This 5th wheel rail and mount kit was supposedly designed for my 2002 F250, however the mounts that bolt to the frame didn't fit properly. I had to ream out the factory holes in the frame to allow the front bolts to secure the mount to the frame, and I had to ream out two of the holes in the mount to allow the rear rail bolts to work. Also there is a hole in the center of the mount as well as a corresponding hole in the frame that could be used to provide a 3rd securing bolt for the mount to the frame, however the frame is designed with a concave portion the and the mount is flat. A spacer could be used to fill the gap, or the mount could have been designed to better forth the frame in this section. As it is, there are only 2 bolts per mount securing it to the frame. When I have time I'll find a spacer to fill this gap and add a 3rd bolt to better secure the mount and thus the rails to my pickup. The carbide finish looks great and the rails and mount are built strong, just they could have been designed to fit better and more secure than they were.

rails are working out just fine, no problems at all.

by:
Looks good just opened the box. Waiting for mounting brackets.

Very solid and well built. Installation took me longer than advertised. The instructions were a little vague, but I figured it out. A few extra carriage bolts and flange nuts would have been nice. All in all, everything lined up perfectly when I measured carefully as outlined in the instructions. I towed with it yesterday for the first time, and it worked great!

My wife and I installed this in 3 hrs. We are in our mid 70’s. We had access to a 2 post lift which made this much easier as we could raise and lower the truck as needed for access. Although some say the instructions were vague I had no problem, just read them through first and begin. As the instructions stated some vehicles may have some differences as we found that the hole for the front driver side bolt needed to be drilled into the frame. After the bracket was mounted we just used the existing hole in the bracket as a guide. We previously installed an AIR LIFT AL59393 kit and it works great with this rail kit. We did our research to be sure they worked together. If you want to be sure about compatibility call etrailer and talk to one of the experts.

Only pulled camper for 20 miles so far, but hitch seemed to work great! Very easy to install and put together. Took about 3-4 hrs start to finish.

Product was as described. Fit and price were great. Just wish shipping would treat the package as their own. First couple pictures are from damage due to shipper carelessness.

Installation of the Curt C16443-204 custom rail kit was a snap on my 2000 F350 dually. The instructions were pretty generic but not to hard to figure out. Once in place it was easy to line line everything up to fit the hitch in and tighten everything down.

Customer service for product selection and order entry were excellent and focused on my interests and needs. The hitch, custom installation kit, and harness were shipped very quickly and arrived sooner than expected. Everything arrived in excellent condition. Assembly and installation instructions were very clear and specific, and I was able to assemble and install everything with no problems and in a very reasonable amount of time. Total cost was roughly half of what it would have been if I had purchased the products and had them installed by a dealer. I am very satisfied with my experience dealing with etrailer.com, and would highly recommend them to anyone shopping for towing products.

Great price for a decent product. I would have given 5 stars but the instructions are crapy. If your thinking of getting this kit and your a do it your self-kind of person. The 60 minutes install won't work. I spent 4 hours on mine. I was missing one lock washer I think even though it's not called out in the picture. Lay out all your fasteners first! There are two spacer/washers that are thinner than the rest. Make sure you get them in the proper location. The brake fasteners go between the plate and frame. From the instruction, it looks like they pass through the frame. They don't so I will need to remove the left plate to get that right. Other than that it's a great product that could use a better instruction sheet.

I think it is impressive and tells you that CURT HITCHES are confidant in there products, that they reach out after a year and ask how it is performing. How time flies. Its been another year and my hitch is still in the box it came in. I sold the truck I was going to put it on and have not replaced it with one that I plan to hang onto long enough to bother installing it on. I will have another F series truck though as my forever truck, that this will fit. At that time I will proudly install this hitch. I cant wait!

by:
One year removed from installation at this point. Installation went as well as could be expected, as my truck had 350,000 miles and 23 years in service at the time of installation. Compounding the situation was a very thick spray-in bedliner and a pretty severe bow in the bed from a dropped load. I had to leave out a few of the rail spacers on account of the aforementioned handicaps. I'll report that with some careful, coordinated bolt tightening, after all items were in place, I have 2 heavy, high quality 5th-wheel rails that work well. I'm in the salt belt, (the truck is from Phoenix), so I re-painted everything that was exposed and it's held up well so far. I'd recommend for other customers, both the product and the store. etrailer is great and so is Curt - this is my second Curt product from etrailer and both were great experiences all-around.
by:
Bought these rails for my 5th wheel trail hitch and they out performed my expectations, they lined up with the factory holes in the truck frame and bolted right in and plus they held up to the few time I had to lock up my brakes when I was cut off. For sure i thought I would lose my rig with with the hitch breaking away or the rails giving out but they performed like they're supposed to do. I highly recommend them and more so cause of the great price. Can't be beat!!

I ordered this for my 2004 Ford F250 Super Duty. Shipping was fast and arrived in good condition. Installation was straight forward and works perfect for the multiple 5th wheel hitches I’ve used it for. Would buy here again if I ever need anything else. Also, the price was the same or cheaper than elsewhere and the detailed and helpful website was the deciding factor why I purchased here.

Product came without any hardware. Box was undamaged ,just no hardware with it.
I called customer service .They were very helpful and had the appropriate hardware sent out.
A week later the hardware package showed up and installation was straight forward. I started on the passenger side as that is the easiest because the drivers side has brake cables that must be disconnected .My truck is a dually so I jacked it up ,used jack stands, wheel chocks, and removed the wheels. This proved to make the installation much easier. Installation time 4 hours . Took my time. Had to drill a couple of holes for the front bolts to the frame but I am very satisfied . Took off one star for the bolts being missed. Etrailer is great .

This is the fourth time I've installed a 5th wheel kit on any of my trucks,i have done this many time. This time I went with three Curt 16443 5th wheel brackets. Poor instructions, I could have bought a different kit with better instructions for significantly less. Buy the universal 5th wheel kit from your local autoparts store.

Also, this kit only uses TWO grade 5 bolts to secure each bracket to the frame whereas the universal kit uses two bolts per bracket (four brackets total), nor can I seem to find an install video. Overall, I am not happy.

I ordered the hitch mount for a 2003 F250. When I received it the instructions said it doesn’t fit some 2003 models. Had I known this I wouldn’t have bought it. I had to drill several holes to make it fit and it was missing some hardware. It is not coming back off but I’m less than happy with the misinformation.

For clarification according to the installation instructions the fit note regarding 2003 and earlier models was in reference to competitors 5th wheel systems, and not in reference to the vehicle fit. For this kit the passenger side frame hanger will need to have holes drilled for complete installation.

Bolt through box were a little short. Bed liner might not have been factored in. But they sent out longer bolts right away. Got the next day or two. Wish it came with a few more measurements on how far apart they should be than just put the hitch in and tighten the bolts down.

Great product that fit the way it should. Installed by my self in a few hours and then dropped on my fifth wheel hitch and proceeded to haul about 20,000lbs about 9,000 miles. Couldn't ask for better.

Etrailer.com has become my go-to site for everything. They're communication is excellent. When I asked for my item to be express shipped and they realized they couldn't get it to me in time because it wasn't in the warehouse, they quickly suggested a similar item and had it to me on time. Install on my Curt 5th wheel rails was a breeze and I just placed another order for more items that I would normally purchase from a competitor! Plus FREE SHIPPING and the low price guarantee! How could you go wrong? Thanks Etrailer

  • B&W Rails And Hitch For A 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty
Hi Jeremy! B&W does indeed have an option for your 2001 Ford F250. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider and Universal Install Kit - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BW38XR is a sliding hitch, which is recommended for short bed trucks, and comes with ISR (Industry Standard Rails) universal rails # BWRVR3200. • Am I Able To Use My Hensley Saver BD5 5th Wheel Hitch With My 2004 Ford F-250 Without OEM Pucks?
The Hensley Saver BD5 5th wheel hitch that you currently have is designed to fit into the OEM pucks that you previously had on your 2016 Ford F-450 and will unfortunately not work with standard 5th wheel rails. With that being said, you're going to need to use a different hitch like the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16140, which will install into a set of ISR like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F250 and F350 - Carbide Finish # C16443-204. I have some recommendations for you as the RBW 5th wheel hitch and rails are obsolete. I recommend installing the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16443-204 in the bed of your 2001 Ford F-350. This will allow you to use either the Fixed E16 # C16115 or Slider E16 # 16516 5th wheel hitch with your F-350. These are both rated for 16,000lbs which is more than the RBW. If you need a recommendation for a stronger 5th wheel hitch please let me know so you do not get a hitch that is...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Brackets and Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty Dually
There are custom fifth wheel installation kits that fit your 2004 Ford F-350 dually but the Installation Kit # C16448-104 you referenced does NOT fit; this kit is only for 2005-2011 Ford Super Duty trucks. Instead I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F250 and F350 # C16443-204, which does fit your F-350, because the custom fit will lessen the amount of drilling and time it takes to install the brackets compared to universal installation kits. If you're looking for a budget fifth wheel and gooseneck hitch setup for a 2003 Ford F-250 I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30051 which is one of the most effective dual jaw hitches. In regards to mounting, I'd recommend a custom kit which is going to be much easier to install and would not require drilling into the frame.
