Features to know about

Built for Confident, Heavy-Duty Towing: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is rated for 16,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit, giving you reliable strength for hauling big fifth-wheel trailers. The sturdy steel construction and carbide powder coat finish hold up over time, even when you’re logging serious miles. It’s a solid, stable base that makes towing heavy loads feel steady and controlled every time you hit the road.

Quiet, Controlled Ride Every Mile: Fully Articulating Torsion Head

The fully articulating torsion head helps smooth out road shock and cut down on noise. It pivots naturally with your trailer, so bumps and dips don’t translate into harsh movement inside the truck. The result is a quieter ride with less chucking and more confidence when you’re towing long distance.

Secure Hookup That Stays Locked In: Interlocking Double Jaw System

The interlocking 2-jaw design wraps completely around the king pin for 360-degree contact. That tight connection reduces rattle compared to slide-bar models and gives a safer, more secure fit. Every time you back in and couple up, you can feel the jaws close firmly around the pin—no guesswork or extra play once you’re hitched.

Close-up of Curt A16 fifth wheel hitch interlocking two-piece jaws securely wrapped around a trailer king pin for a stable connection.

See Your Connection at a Glance: Three-Point Color Indicator

A quick look at the color-coded indicator tells you exactly what position the jaws are in—red for uncoupled, yellow for ready to couple, and green for tow. You can view it right from the cab or beside the truck bed without climbing in to check. When you disconnect, the handle resets automatically to the ready-to-couple position so it’s set for next time.

Easy to Remove When You’re Done Towing: One-Pin Head Removal

When it’s time to clear your bed, removing this hitch is straightforward. A fast, one-pin head removal lets one person lift off the head without tools. The included base rails keep installation simple too, so switching between towing duty and an open bed doesn’t take much effort. With 13"–17" height adjustment built in, it’s easy to dial in a level setup for your trailer.

Video Transcript for How to Install the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch on a 2019 Ford F-150

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2019 Ford F-150 we're gonna be checking out the Curt A16 5th wheel hitch. Nowadays these half-ton trucks are really capable and so people are really, you know, putting 'em through the paces, towing a lot of heavy stuff around and whatnot. So if you have a fifth wheel type trailer, whether it's a camper or something else, you're gonna need a way to pull it and that's exactly what this is gonna help you do. So this is gonna be a fixed mount one, meaning that it's just going to drop into your in-bed rails. These are Curt rails but it's kind of an industry standard.

You know, if you have other manufacturers of rails, chances are really, really good this is still just gonna kind of drop into place and work out there. Being that it's fixed, that kind of, you know, brings me to my next point. So on our truck, this is only 5 1/2 foot bed so it's a really short bed and a lot of times what I usually recommend is a sliding type hitch, right That way when you make turns and stuff the hitch will go back and give you the cab clearance that you need. That way your trailer don't swing around and end up making contact with your cab corner, damaging the truck and the trailer. But what our customer's doing today is his trailer actually has one of those rotating pin boxes.

I believe it's the Reese Sidewinder. So that's how he can get away with using a fixed one. So this hitch is compatible with those rotating pin boxes. So the side of the hitch and the truck moving, the pin box on the camper will. Now if you have a long bed, really don't need to worry about any of that, right A fixed type hitch is gonna work out just fine.

This particular hitch is gonna be rated for 16,000 pounds so probably more than enough for the F-150, but if you like to go a little overkill, there's a 20,000 pound version of this available as well. The head of it articulates and does have a little bit of movement in there just to help absorb some of that road shock and trucking and things like that and making it easier to hook up, you know. So when you back up, this can kind of move around, you know, and kind of guide itself around that king pin on your trailer. And that's gonna kind of bring me to my next point. This has a dual jaw type design, so it's open right now but maybe I can reach over and close it.

And this thing is, it's no joke here. Whenever that's locked around the king pin, you can see it's super strong. It's no joke. It's going to have complete 360 degree contact and that's gonna really create a secure and good connection, kind of giving you some peace of mind there whenever you're towing your trailer down the road. The hitch head is gonna be adjustable. So I believe there's three different adjustments. You know, you can raise it up or down depending on your trailer and how high your truck sits and everything else. Kind of dial that in and get it as level as possible whenever you're towing. Right now we have it in the middle position and I'm letting you know that because a lot of people ask about Tonneau covers, right And if they're gonna be able to use one and not have to bother at taking the hitch in an out. And you should be in pretty good shape regardless of what Tonneau cover you have. On our truck today, we having one of these roll up ones, pretty common. And this at, even in the middle position and this over it, there's still, I mean, a ton of space here. So even if this was up a few more inches, you'd still have plenty of clearance and in most cases, in most Tonneau covers you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If in the off season, if you don't want this hitch back here, you're not gonna plan on using it for a while, you know, you can pull it in and out, which I'm not gonna lie, these things are pretty heavy. Thankfully though, this one, the actual, the head comes off of it separately. So you can remove those. This'll pop out. So you can get that out of the way and then pull the base out. And both of these independently are pretty manageable together. It's not the easiest thing to do. So by being able to break it apart like that, you know, it kind of turns a two man job into a one-man job. Other than that, you know, a nice hitch, it's well built. I like how it looks. Has kind of that flat black, matte black finish to it. You know, I really can't ask for too much more. Relatively lightweight when you break 'em apart and, you know, something you really can't go wrong with. Honestly, you know what our neighbor did here today, kind of got the whole package, which makes sense on an F-150, you know, pulling a big camper around. He got the Curt rails, he got our Curt in-bed wiring. He even went and did Air Lift airbags and a compressor. So I feel like all that stuff together, he should be really happy with and make his towing experience a comfortable and good one. I do wanna say that, I wanna emphasize this again, if you got a short bed like this and your trailer doesn't have one of those rotating pin boxes on it, it's really important to find a sliding type hitch. I just don't wanna see anyone pop this in their truck, make that turn and end up damaging anything. So a sliding one or that rotating pin box is going to alleviate any of those issues. And that'll finish up our look at of the Curt A16 5th wheel hitch in our 2019 Ford F-150..

I purchased both the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs - C16120, and Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Qty 4 - RP58093 for my F350 SD 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed. I'm pulling a 30' Retro 5th. Wheel and at times I pull my tandem axle UTV Trailer (Double Trailers) . I already had the rails installed in my truck, this fit right in and I used the new Pins and Lock Plates for securing to truck. I have pulled all over from South Dakota and the Northwest. The Hitch has performed Flawlessly. No bucking, nor clunking. Very quiet and smooth ride. I would recommend this set up to anyone for convenience of Hook up and Disconnect, Excellent towing, quiet, and the security of the lock pins. I use Disc locks to prevent access for bolt cutters.

Excellent! Still working as it did on day one. Very solid, easy to use, and the unit is very quiet. Also no chucking. I highly recommend this product to anybody. We now have 2020 Cameo 12,000# unloaded weight. Pulls perfectly.

Easy install great product love the interlocking jaws I can’t wait to tow with it thank you E trailer for a great used part well worth it with one little scratch on would buy a used product from etrailer anytime

by: Michael02/21/2025

This can be easily put together and installed by one person. I had to put the base into the universal rails loosely and then torque the bolts to spec. This hitch was an upgrade.from the autoslide hitch I originally purchased for my 5th wheel. The noise and banging has disappeared. This hitch was well worth the money. I also purchased the custom fit wedge for my pinbox. I don't believe I could be any happier with this hitch.

We love to hear that this made such a improvement in your towing experience, Michael! Do you have any upcoming trips planned?

All parts showed up in good condition

by: Nick05/07/2019

This bracket and rail kit was the perfect fit for my 2011 Silverado. Made the install of my hitch a breeze and allowed me to be on the road with my new trailer in no time.

by: Ron C05/15/2017

Heavy steel construction. Went on without an issue. Everything fit like a glove. I would suggest the 10-bolt pattern as I did for extra strength and security.

by: Ricardo09/19/2019

Great product, even better customer service, fast shipping, and a great price, installation was easy about 20 minutes, mounted on Reese mounting plate also from etrailer.

by: Brent01/17/2021

If you do this yourself, definitely remove the wheel well liners and remove 3 of the 4 bolts holding the heat shield with one loosened to move it out of the way. Top front four nuts are the hardest to get started from under the truck. Start to finish 3 hours. Saved myself $500 for install

by: Wayne05/03/2020

Extremely pleased with the rails and hitch purchased from etrailer! The video and printed directions were very informative. One caveat though, the bolts inside the frame on the custom kit (2017Chevy 2500hd) are tough, 2 people are needed. We used magnet rods. The hitch(Curt A16) is great but the shipping was FANTASTIC. Ordered on 4/29 and received on 5/1. 2 days!!! Thank you Jane S. and etrailer!!

by: Ryan07/19/2023

Just installed my curt 5th wheel kit,all materials are heavy duty and comes with all hardware needed. Installation is straightforward for the average DIY . The only challenge in the installation of the kit is getting the right tool to torque the rail bolts. My truck is a 2013 chevy Silverado 2500HD. I would recommend this kit.

by: Thomas01/16/2019

The hitch was simple to install. I also purchased the custom brackets to bolt the rails to the frame. Everything lined up exactly as it should. No drilling on the frame!!! I will review the hitch once I get more use out of it. It looks great though.

by: Donald09/05/2020

Box was delivered with a little damage and the contents of the hardware bag was loose in the box. After going through the parts list and realizing I was missing 1 block, we contacted etrailer and they shipped the replacement part immediately, we got it within 3 or 4 days. Install was a breeze after watching the video and fishing the bolts and blocks in the frame. Only took a couple hours total.

by: Lonnie02/12/2020

Installation of the Curt C16443-204 custom rail kit was a snap on my 2000 F350 dually. The instructions were pretty generic but not to hard to figure out. Once in place it was easy to line line everything up to fit the hitch in and tighten everything down.

by: Keith L.09/02/2019

Purchased this hitch, install kit, and wiring harness for a new to me 2015 F-250. After watching the installation video and reviewing the included instructions the install went smoothly. The only deviation from the instructions was instead of using a unibit to drill the 9/16" holes in the bed I used a Rotobroach hole cutter(the holes are cleaner and the bit does not drift. I hooked in to my fifth wheel for the first time on Saturday.

by: James G.07/06/2017

Whew! Installing that Rail kit about kicked my butt! The reason why is all the trips I made from underneath the truck and back. The Rail kit is a very high Quality Product from Curt that fits perfectly in the bed of my truck. The hardware is also high quality. One downside is there isn't a lot of room to work as the gas tank on one side and the exhaust on the other side prevents easy access (gas tank in particular). It was very hard to get a wrench on the nuts unless you used a Gearwrench. After the install they are torqued to 110 ft-lb. The only way to do that was to put a 1 inch adapter on the torque wrench then put that in the open end of the gearwrench in the adapter. Then using a formula on line, convert that to what you have to ft-lb. Anyway It was worth it because I know I have a good product that will stand the test of time.

by: Mike C.07/31/2019

This is the second one of these that I ordered from e trailer. The first one I got at the same time as the fifth wheel hitch. I install on my 2015 Silverado 2500HD. I traded that Silverado for a 2018 Silverado 3500 Z71. Kept the hitch had to leave the rails. Great product and not bad to install. Took about 2 hours. If I trade again, I will get third.

by: Robert09/08/2026

Showed up 1 day late but was still to me quickly, boxes were damaged and instructions were missing but was able to find online. Easy to install and work perfectly.

by: Bryan03/19/2018

Excellent product, perfect fit for my vehicle, arrived a couple days before it was supposed to. I did not want an "aftermarket" look, which is why I ordered a kit designed specifically for my vehicle. I did take the time to remove the heat shield to gain better access to the installation bolts. The biggest challenge was installing and tightening the bolts that go through the bed; there is not a lot of room between the trucks frame and the bed of the truck. The most challenging bolts were the ones on the driver side closest to the cab of the truck due to the placement of the gas tank. Trailer wiring was plug-and-play, hardest part was drilling the 2" hole in the side of my truck bed.

by: Rod04/22/2019

Last summer I made purchase of the A16 sliding 5th wheel hitch along with rails.the install took about six hours working by myself .following the enclosed instructions is important and saves time if you do it exactly as shown.I was very pleased with the delivery,it was prompt and no charge.that was great.the hitch is a slider which I think is important on a shortbed, could save damage to truck during maneuvers.my experience with etrailer has been really good and would recommend this company to anybody shopping for trailering equipment

by: Judy03/21/2026

Hitch works very smoothly. Much easier to use than the last hitch we had.
Also light weight for easier removal from truck when needed.

by: Kevin L09/14/2016

The installation kit fit perfect but take the time to move the spare tire and the heat shield out of the way to make it easier.

by: Christopher 07/02/2024

The installation video is very helpful friendly service and fast shipping and very accurate fitment definitely recommend e trailer for any trailer needs and accessories

by: Guy05/18/2026

Great product, But.. anyone who thinks the install is easy has either never installed these or is not telling the truth! Access to the under bed rail bolts is near impossible!

by: Jeff L10/01/2017

I feel that the installation video simplifies the process to much. Attaching the frame plates with the bolt fish wire was more difficult than the video showed. I am to blame for the first bolt. We started on the left side and fished the back bolt first. I did not check to see if the wire would go through both plate and bolt once threaded onto the bolt. I just placed the plate on the wire and then threaded the bolt onto the wire and pulled or tried to pull it through the frame hole. The wire was "bunched" on part of the bolt and would not feed through the frame and the plate holes. I stretched the wire to the point I thought I was going to lose the bolt in the frame. We ended up getting the bolt back out and using the other fish wire to feed this bolt through. We made sure we could fit both the plate and bolt through together before fishing it through the frame. Once we did one the other three went a lot easier but we only had one fish wire to use.
I had watched the installation video several times and played it while we were working. The video is good but it makes the process seem to easy.
I would like to see the video have more details about this process and have 4 fish wire instead of 2 or tell people you may want to have two more on hand for piece of mind.

I was fully expecting a hitch in excess of 100 pounds to show up in a destroyed box. This did not. They had taken the Time and effort to cover the box with an additional layer of cardboard and it must have had a million staples in it. It was almost comical, you will need a crowbar or large screwdriver to get it open. However, when I did finally get the package open I found a perfectly un scratched hitch with no missing parts. I have not pulled with the hitch yet but , it does look like it is going to perform great. I'm using this in a 2006 ram 2500 4x4 short bed pulling a 2015 forest river Salem and it allows 91 degrees of turning due to the clipped corners on the front cap of the trailer. I will be curious to see how long the rubber isolators last before needing replaced and if they are readily available. Also the curt sticker on the hitch was peeling off when I took it out of the box, would be nice to get that replaced.

Could not be happier with this hitch. Have never had any coupling or uncoupling problems even in odd angle situations. Does not rattle or let the trailer chuck around. Easy to move. In and out of the truck. The powder coating is fading and showing some signs of surface rust but this is most likely due to it living in the truck unprotected. I have since moved the hitch into a 2017 ram 2500 with the puck system. I bought the puck mount and every thing bolted up nicely. I keep the standard rail legs under the bed of the fifth wheel should I ever need to pull with a truck that doesn’t have pucks. This has happened once when our truck broke down. Would definitely recommend this hitch.

  • Best Way to Install a Gooseneck Hitch in a Truck w/ 5th Wheel Rails
Hey Rebecca. So long as you have a set of 5th wheel rails like item # C16411-204 installed in the bed of your new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, all you'll need is the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails item # 16055. This will attach directly to those rails like your Reese 16K 5th wheel hitch. I have attached a picture below so you can see how the gooseneck plate looks when it gets setup. Hello Valerie, Thanks for writing in! I actually have a better solution for you. Technically, the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit # C16200 will work with your 2012 Chevy Silverado, but being a universal kit, the installation is going to be a lot more involved than it needs to be. Hey Nathan, thanks for reaching out! There is a bit to unpack here, but to start things off, I'm not seeing that a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 would have had an OEM gooseneck receiver without the rest of the pucks, so I believe you have an aftermarket system. • How Does The PullRite Super 5th Wheel Hitch PUL48RR Attach To My Truck?
Hello Joe, thanks for reaching out. The PullRite Super 5th Wheel Hitch # PUL48RR is designed to work with the industry standard 5th wheel rails, so it would not hook into a gooseneck. I see that you were looking at parts for a 2016 GMC 2500. If you intend to use the PullRite Hitch with this truck, the correct rail kit is the following: - Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC - Carbide Finish # C16411-204

Since it looks like you have a 2011 GMC Sierra, you'd actually need to install the base rails # C16411-204 first, and then you'd be able to use the Curt A16 # C16120. If you have anything else...

If the Pullrite Superglide is an ISR style fifth wheel hitch which is designed for the rails that the Curt kit part # C16411-204 provides this will work. But there are two types of rails Pullrite designs their hitches for with one of them being for standard rails like what the Curt provides and the other only fits their rail designs. A fifth wheel hitch like the Curt E16 # C16115 will have sufficient capacity to tow your camper.
