5th Wheel Base Rail Fit on 2019 Ram 1500 Short Bed With Factory Air Suspension

Published 03/23/2022

Question:

Would it be safe to put a gooseneck hitch in the truck and an adapter from 5th wheel to gooseneck on camper. I think I would rather do that can you get the part number’s that I would need. 5th wheel is 8500 Lbs.

There is one option for 5th wheel base rails that fit your 2019 Ram 1500 short bed with air suspension, so long as your truck does not have the Multi-Function tailgate. The correct fit for your truck is the following:

- Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP56018-53

The Reese base rails # RP56018-53 will allow you to mount any standard 5th wheel hitch, including the Curt A16 # C16120 you mentioned. These are a no-drill install on your truck, which is not only good for the truck, but also saves a lot of time during the install.

The only other thing you'll need if you don't have one is a 5th wheel wiring harness, with the correct fit for your '19 Ram 1500 being the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157.

You can do that, yes, just keep in mind with your short bed it will be very difficult to make any type of sharp turn since you can't use an extended pin box like a Sidewinder. But let's start with the gooseneck, and the fit from your truck is the B&W: - B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1319 The Turnoverball hitch isn't just a fit for your Ram, it is also considered the premier gooseneck in the industry, because it has a square base for its hitch ball which ensures optimal strength with a much quieter ride than other hitches. With this you will also still need the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157. Then for an adapter, you will need the measurement from the bottom of the kingpin plate to top of the hitch ball when trailer and truck are level to be between 12" and 16", and you will be able to use a Convert-A-Ball adapter: - Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter with Offset # CAB-C5GX1216 The Turnoverball will be just over 4 inches to the top of the ball when installed in your truck, which you can use to give you an idea of and also keep in mind that the adapter is not for use with any type of cushioned air box, just standard pin boxes.
