Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for use w/ a Turning Point Pin Box and the Ford Factory Puck System

Question:

New 5th W.. Grand Design 30 ft 5er w/ Curt Turning Point pinbox in which I intend to install proper wedge for sidewinder type use 10K lb GVW / 1300 lb pin weight. Have ordered 2023 Ford Super Duty, with 6.9 ft bed, fifth wheel hitch factory prep, and towing pak. I believe I want to use a stationary Curt hitch in conunction with turning pointinch pin box to obtain 90° turn capability in short bed. Also wish to utilize Puck System that comes w/factory prep for 5th W. hitch. If this seems an appropriate approach, what hitch would you recommend? Would like lightest weight hitch possible, as I only have myself to do install and need to use empty truck bed between tows. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

Congrats on all your new toys! I do not think a Curt 5th wheel hitch, like item # C16120, is the best for your set up. You would need to purchase an adapter rail item # C88KR to use this hitch with your puck system. This adds weight, cost, and complication to installing and removing the hitch so you can have full access to your bed. This combo weighs 193 lbs.

A way better option, and what I highly recommend, is to use the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3300. This 5th wheel hitch has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will mount directly to your Ford's puck system for easy installation and removal. No adapter needed and it only weighs 152 lbs. Plus it is made in the USA.

The Companion has 1" thick dual jaws that will give you a 360-degree jaw to kingpin contact. This system minimizes the chucking, jarring and noise that can occur when towing a fifth wheel trailer. This not only provides a more secure connection but also a quieter more comfortable towing experience. Combine this with the cam-action latching handle that helps you to uncouple your trailer even if the terrain isn't level and you'll be ready to go.

I have linked an installation video below.

The universal wedge that came with the Curt Turning Point King Pin should work just fine with the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3300. If you would like a custom wedge you will want item # SWW-06 that is designed for use with your B&W Companion.

Since weight is a big concern for you, I also recommend the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device for Companion Hitches item # BWRVXA3130. This heavy duty steel tool lets you lift your B&W 5th-wheel hitch from your truck bed with a hoist. The 5th-Wheel jaws clamp around the device for a secure grip.

I have pretty much the same situation as James H. 2020 Ford F350 Super Duty and have the B&W Companion, RVK 3500. Using it with B&W puck system. I had an online chat with a lady from B&W to check about the correct wedge to use. She said that you cannot use this hitch mounted with the puck system with any movable king pin. Could this be because the puck system is aftermarket and not OEM like James will have? I would like to use the turning capability on my new trailer that I am picking up this week but am totally confused and feel that I will have to use the king pin in the fixed position. I believe you sell a wedge for this setup but I am not sure if this would work.

@EdwardD That's correct you can't use the RVK3500 or our B&W Companion item # BWRVK3500-5W with a rotating pin box. This doesn't attach to a puck system it attaches to a gooseneck receiver. The force of the rotating pinbox is too much stress to put on a single attachment point.
