Features to know about

Built to Tow Big 5th Wheels with Confidence: 20,000 lbs GTW and 5,000 lbs Tongue Weight

This heavy-duty hitch is rated for 20,000 lbs gross towing weight and 5,000 lbs tongue weight, giving you solid muscle for hauling large fifth wheels. The sturdy steel construction and carbide powder coat finish stand up to long miles and rough roads. It’s a serious setup for anyone who wants a hitch that feels steady and secure every time you hook up.

Secure, Quiet Connection on Every Trip: Interlocking 2-Jaw System with 360-Degree Contact

The interlocking two-piece jaw wraps completely around the king pin to give you full 360-degree contact. That tight fit cuts down on rattle and movement compared to slide-bar models, so your trailer tracks smoothly and quietly behind you. It’s an easy way to make heavy towing feel more controlled and predictable mile after mile.

Know Exactly When You’re Ready to Tow: Color-Coded 3-Point Indicator System

No second-guessing whether you’re locked in—just glance at the color indicator. Red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re set for towing. The indicators are visible from the cab, so you can confirm everything without climbing into the bed. The handle also locks for security and resets itself after uncoupling, making it ready when you are.

Smooth Hookup and Ride Control: Fully Articulating Torsion Head

The fully articulating torsion head self-aligns during coupling and helps absorb road shock for a quieter, more stable ride. It takes the edge off bumps and dips while still keeping the trailer steady behind the truck. The built-in zerk fittings make lubrication quick, so everything stays moving smoothly over time.

Easy to Remove When You Need the Bed Clear: 1-Pin Head Removal with Rail Adapter

When it’s time to free up your truck bed, pull one pin to lift off the head—simple enough for one person to handle. The included rail adapter drops right into the puck receivers and secures with quarter-turn anchors, so setup or removal is fast. This design makes it practical to tow when needed and still have a clear bed whenever you want it.

Video Transcript for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Adapter Rails Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna checking out via Curt Adapter. Now it's for OEM puck systems in the bed. So it's gonna take the underbed puck system make it a overed puck system. That way you can attach your fifth wheel to this and use the one you have already. Let's check it out.

It's gonna be really good if you already have a fifth wheel that you used in roller truck, you wanna transfer it over to this system. It doesn't drop in the puck, or you just wanna upgrade to a different one that also works above bed. That's what this is gonna do. It's gonna convert the puck system to an above bed system and you just drop it in any of these tabs here right away. I wanna show you how easy it is to operate.

So I'm gonna pull the clip and the pen. This is a lever that's gonna turn this portion to let you lift it up and outta the pucks, and I gotta do it on all four sides, but it's really easy to do compared to some of the other adapters I've worked with. There was the Reese one that I've also used but it has the longer arms that pin here in the center and that can be kind of cumbersome to bring those all the way out here and out of the way to unlock it from the pucks. These are shorter handles, so you just push it out makes it far easier. It does clear everything right here.

You don't have to go for that long lever style. So now it's unlocked. I can just lift it up and out of the pucks. It's like our back one's stuck, so I gotta get that lever in the right spot, that easy to do. Now it's up and out of the pucks and we can take it out of the truck.

Installations just as easy. Make sure you got those levers in the correct spot. You see that this portion that goes down into the puck is lined up with it. You just lift it up. Drop it in. Now you might only get one or two of them in. Then you can come over here and adjust. Very easy to come down. I also like that there's plenty of room in between the bend and the bottom of the bar so you don't have to worry about smashing my hands when I'm dropping into place. Once it's lined up in place, you can pull the lever back over. It should go over there. That's gonna lock it in and then we'll put our pin and clip right there in the hole. The way it locks in those pucks is gonna help prevent chucking. I'm gonna try and shake it back and forth. You see it'll move a little bit, but not a whole lot. I'm really shaking the whole truck versus what's gonna move on the fifth wheel, the whole thing has a durable carbate black product oak finished. So if you leaving it in the back of the truck you don't have to worry about the elements bothering it at all. The tabs where you drop the fifth wheel legs in so this is gonna be what kind of fifth wheel spread will work with the adapter. It's gonna go from the furthest ones out. It's gonna be 29 inches center to center. The next one's in it's gonna be 21 inches center to center and then here's gonna be 10 inches center to center. So that should help you decide if your setup's gonna work with the adapter or not. Another thing to think about about is it is gonna add three inches to the bed so that means it's gonna bring your fifth wheel head up three more inches. Just keep that in mind when you're doing your setup. Overall, I really like this adapter. Like I said, it was easier to use than some of the other ones I have used. These quarter turn latches here and drop in the pucks. Make it really easy to get in into place or get it out of here when you want it out and it's gonna help convert that underbed system to an over bed system to using over bed fifth wheel. Well. I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helps..

Easy to install and fit perfectly

by: Alejandro05/21/2022

Very nice piece!Arrived sooner than expected. I have the A16 version, that I used for a 10k Lbs 5th wheel and that handle very well but now I'll be towing a 16k tow hauler so I know this a20 will do just fine. And I love the locking jaw versions. I feel these are most secured in any type of towing.

by: Robert11/13/2021

Excellent hitch, took two of us 10 minutes, during a rain storm lol, to put together and install! As far as towing our Redwood 5th wheel it performed flawlessly, easy to hook up and the ride was super smooth and no noticeable bucking!

by: Cameron07/06/2026

Fits perfectly and easy install

by: Corey07/26/2022

Very nice rail set up that you can remove when not in use, works great with my Anderson Hitch that was set up for a rail set up on my new 2022 Ram 3500. Also has slots for the chain hooks.

by: Brandon01/10/2023

Heavier than expected (95#) shipping weight. Which is a good thing. The description probably said that but I didn’t pay attention. The only warning I would give I’d that this with add 3.25” or so of height to your hitch. If you don’t have the adjustment in your set up you may want to look for something a little lower profile. I’m happy with the purchase and very happy with etrailer. Very fast shipping and good prices.

by: William07/15/2026

Very easy to install. Although it is a heavy unit and I ended up getting my son to help me put it in once I assembled it.

by: Richard10/29/2024

Took about 15 minutes to install. Heavy duty. Can't wait to pull with is

by: James B.07/28/2017

I already had a curt goose neck frame mounted in truck so I used the Curt adopter plate # 16220 an the A 20 curt 5 wheel hitch assembly was very easy with no issues looking forward to putting it to work with my G M C 3500 also purchased a curt bumper dual ball adjustable hitch

by: Dean10/01/2025

I have only had it installed, I have not towed with it yet that's why ony 4 Stars. Installation went very well and fast.

by: Dave B09/19/2017

Hitch slid into existing rails after a very minor adjustment. Took my son and I about 25 minutes to assemble, torgue bolts and adjust rails in the bed of my truck. we have used it twice already and camper did not bang and pop like it did on old worn out receiver.
The ordering process was also very smooth. Kelsey took the time to explain the differences in the hitches before I made my decision!
I Would recommend both etrailer and this hitch if you are looking to change out!

by: Donald09/05/2020

Hitch came packed well even though the box looked banged up. Everything was still undamaged and in good usable condition, just minor scuffs. I think this unit will have more when I get done with it. Watched a you tube video from curt on installation and had little trouble installing the hitch following the enclosed guidelines. Everything lined up according to plan. I think the hardest part was getting access by the heat shield. Tough spot to work on but I had help from a younger, more adapt helper who was able to manage just fine. A creeper for underneath was super handy and a 6 foot ladder to climb in and out of the bed made it a whole lot easier. Really did not need to use a lift. Would have made it a bit harder to work in the bed. My truck is quite high which allowed nice working space underneath.

by: Mark06/14/2023

Fits like a glove. From the time UPS dropped it off it took 45 minutes to have it installed in the truck and we were hooked up to go camping, which we did! Thanks to the team for getting it shipped asap! 2020 Ram 2500 with the factory puck system.

by: Michael11/19/2025

Not very happy with this product. With the hitch mounted to this rail, you could feel the play between the rail and the hitch every time I braked or accelerated I ended up selling it at a severe loss. It will get you out of a bind, but if you are looking at this for long term, just buy the hitch made for the puck system.

by: Dave06/19/2020

I have towed with the Curt A20 for a few thousand miles. I really like this hitch. The visual hooked versus unkooked indicator is awesome. It operates flawlessly. I do get some chucking over bridge expansion joints. However, it seems like most people have this problem. On normal roads it pulls great.

by: Daniel03/05/2026

From start to finish the experience was very enjoyable. The customer service team was amazing and everything happened just as promised.
The same hitch at my local trailer store cost much more.
Would definitely recommend etrailer to anyone.

by: Lee07/31/2025

Easy to install, took me about 45 minutes. Be sure to put your hitch in place before tightening the 8 bolts. It does sit pretty high so will need to adjust 5th wheel hitch to accommodate the extra height when compared to the older style bed rails.
I have a Curt A16 5th wheel hitch and a Curt gooseneck plate. Both of these fit perfectly. Definitely much cheaper than having to buy new 5th wheel hitch and new gooseneck ball for the puck system. Saved me about $1400

by: Jean07/24/2022

it fit perfectly in my RAM 2500 2022 , it reduce the height by 3.5 inch from my original roller Curt set up, since I have air suspension in the back I will simply said be careful when you disconnect because the back of the pick up spring upward when load is removed. The reason I switch was the high of the roller sytem and the puck was way too high for my fifth wheel.

by: Scott07/20/2026

Assembly was supper easy. Just like the previous one I had for GMC. This product has better handles. I have not towed with it yet. But should be good to go.

by: John R11/14/2024

Heavy and well built. Great that I was able to use my Curt hitch when I bought a new truck with the puck system. Etrailer is a great company with great people. Fast shipping

by: Dennis06/29/2025

I decided to order this adapter because I bought a new truck and wanted to use the 5th wheel I had. Fred at etrailer was a tremendous help. He took the time to go through everything and find the right one and explained it all very well. Believe me, I was very skeptical on ordering but Fred assured me this would work on my 2025 Ram. I was pleasantly shocked when I got it and everything went right into place. Very easy to install. Thank you so much Fred for all of your help!!

by: joe 11/05/2024

I bought a 2023 Ram 3500 that had the factory pucks in it, so I needed this adapter so I could continue using my B&W Patriot hitch. This fit my truck perfectly and my hitch fits this adapter perfectly. Even better than it fit the rails in my old truck, actually. This does raise the hitch probably an inch higher that it was, so be aware of that. One part of the instructions is out of order. How to adjust the locking mechanism is at the very end. You need to adjust each one as you go. Other than that, it was very intuitive and easy to put together. I did use a little blue Loctite on the nuts, but that's me. This thing is beefy. I'm sure it will last a long time.

by: Jennifer07/10/2026

It is what we needed for our new ram truck shipping was fast. And we had issues with ups but this company handled everything in a timely matter. Very happy with this purchase. Thanks for everything.

by: Dale09/02/2026

Every fast shipping. Arrives a day early than what it said when I ordered it. This is the second time I have ordered from them and both times order’s arrived on time or before. Will order from them again.

by: Quint04/14/2026

Packaging was in great shape, arrived when trailer said it would, and it went together with ease! My Andersen 5th wheel hitch fits perfectly in the adapter, so we are all set!

Hey Sam! If your Ram truck has the factory puck system you won't need a set of rails to install an Anderson Hitch. The Andersen Aluminum Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection 2 Gooseneck version item # 3220 will attach directly to the gooseneck ball. If you're looking at one that attaches to 5th wheel rails you'll have to use the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch item # C29BR. This adapter connects to the factory pucks and provides a platform to attach a 5th wheel hitch. What kind of 5th...

You have a couple options for installing the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16180 in the bed of your 2024 Ram 2500 with the factory in bed hitch system. First we have the Adapter Rails # C29BR which fit into the pucks and give you the ISR mounting points. Do note this will raise the hitch 2" so you will likely need to lower the height of the hitch. Hello James, thanks for getting in touch. What PullRite hitch do you have exactly? Does in install to industry standard 5th wheel rails? If so, there are options for mounting it in a new Ram 3500. If your Ram already has the OEM puck system in the bed, you can use the Adapter Rails # C29BR to mount your PullRite hitch in the bed. If your Ram does not have the OEM puck system, you can install a rail kit like the Curt # C16430-204 to put a set of industry standard rails in your bed. I...

  • Adapter Needed To Mount A Curt E-16 Slider Hitch In The Puck System Of A 2024 Ram 2500
Hey Dennis, There isn't a leg base for your Curt E-16 # 16516 to drop into the pucks of your Ram, but you can use an adapter # C29BR which would drop into the pucks and still allow you to mount your base rail-style hitch to it.

  • Recommended Sliding Curt 5th Wheel Hitch for the Ram Puck System
Thanks for the pictures! We do have a few Curt 5th Wheel Hitches with a manual slide. For your Grand Design Reflection, I recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # C16521. The A16 has a 16,000 lbs capacity and the slider base will give you 12" of travel for making tight turns. All of Curt's sliders have to use an adapter like item # C29BR to attach to your 2019 Ram 2500's puck system. If you don't want to mess around with having two different parts the B&W Companion item #...

  • Solution for Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch with Loud Clunking from Jaws
Since the jaws of your Q20 can't be adjusted or replaced your best solution is going to be a new hitch like with the Curt A20 part # C16140 which is the newer version of what you have now which has a much tighter jaw design that will be quieter and last longer. Instead of the two jaw pieces coming together and just touching each other in the middle the A20 jaw has two pieces that lock together.

  • Recommended 5TH Wheel Hitch For a 2022 Ram 2500 With Ram Box Bed
With your 2022 Ram 2500 having the Ram Box storage in the bed you will need to use a fixed hitch with a pivoting pin box like the Sidewinder # RP34FR. You will not be able to use use the Pull Rite/Demco Autoslide type hitches as they will not clear the bed sides. The pivoting pin box changes the turning point from the 5th wheel hitch to the attachment point on the 5th wheel trailer. This prevents the chance of damage to your bed rails and allows you to make full jackknife turns without...

  • Is the Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch Compatible with the Lippert Rota-Flex Pin Box
I spoke with my contact at Curt who said that the A20 5th Wheel Hitch # C16140 is compatible with the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box without any additional components. He did say that they have heard of instances where the rubber pad on the Rota-Flex pops out of place which results in it prematurely wearing down the head unit of the A20 but since that problem is with the pin box you would have this same issue with any 5th wheel hitch. If you are replacing your pin box and this makes...

The zerk fittings for the Curt A20 hitch part # C16140 are located on the front of each jaw.The jaws must be in the closed and locked position for the zerks to be accessible. They are kind of hard to see but I attached a picture that points them out. Curt recommends high pressure grease like the part # L11465. If you need a grease gun we have part # L30200.

  • Parts Needed To Use a Curt A20 5TH Wheel Hitch In Bed of a 2017 Ford F-350 With OEM Puck System
I have 2 options for you Simon to mount your Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch # C16140 in your 2017 Ford F-350 with the factory puck system. The first and easiest is the Adapter Rails # C88KR which you found. This will mount into your 4 outer factory puck holes and gives you the same mounting points your Curt hitch fits into. Do understand this will add 2-1/2" to the height of your hitch so you may need to adjust your mounting holes. We also have the Legs # C16017 you can mount to your Head #...

  • Towing 19K Toy Hauler With 18K Rated 5th Wheel Hitch
According to my research, the 2007 Silverado 2500 Classic has a towing capacity that varies from about 10,100 to around 15,000 lbs depending on how the truck is equipped so you'll definitely be exceeding the towing capacity of the truck as well as that of an 18K capacity 5th wheel hitch. Does the 19K figure you stated for the weight of the toy hauler represent its GVWR or is that it's dry or weight? The dry weight would typically be quite a bit lower. I couldn't recommend towing in excess...

  • Can Head Unit From Curt Q20 Be Used On Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch?
Hello Rick, thanks for reaching out. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but your best option here will be to get a whole new hitch. The Q20 hitch system has basically been discontinued and replaced with the A20 series hitches. The head units and bases are not interchangeable between the two hitches. I know what you mean about the handle and slider on the Curt hitches being tricky to operate. This is the case with all of their hitches. If you want something better, take a look at...

I spoke to my contact at Curt about your Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16140 and they informed me that the locking handle issue is likely a result of improper lubrication. For starters, I would take some brake parts cleaner and spay down the jaws and the locking handle to ride any debris. Once you have let the jaws and handle mechanism dry then you can take some LubriMatic White Lithium Grease part # L11354 and work it onto these components while moving them back and forth to...

Yes, the Curt E-Series like part # C16115 fit the same base rails as the Curt A-Series like part # C16140 so you can switch between the two without issue. The old base rails will stay attached to the truck bed and you'd simply just swap out the hitch for one another.

  • Why Would Curt A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch Chuck with Travel Trailer
Hey Matt, that's frustrating to hear but my first question is what type of wedge are you using for the pin box and the A20? If it's a universal wedge that would be what I'd think the issue is. The custom fit wedge you'd need is the part # C16992. That should tighten up chucking quite a bit. Let me know what you have now for a wedge and we can go from there. Also if you see where the movement is that is causing the noise let me know.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 17,000 Lb Trailer
For a 17,000 lb trailer for which I am assuming is dry weight, I would error on the side of caution and use a 5th wheel hitch rated for at least 20,000 lbs. For a 20,000 lb 5th wheel hitch, I recommend the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16541 for long beds or part # C16140 for short beds. The Curt 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches are excellent options. They have a pivoting head that makes hooking up the travel on unlevel ground easy. In order to install this hitch on your truck you...

  • Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch that is Easily Removed on 2014 Ram 1500
Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight. Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add...

  • Is it Normal for Curt A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch to Make Noise Starting/Stopping
Hey Doug, what you are describing is pretty normal and is referred to as "chucking". Some hitches have a little looser tolerances in the jaw design that can cause this and/or some trailer king pins are a little worn out which allows for more play as well. The A20 doesn't have a reputation for being noisy so I wouldn't suspect it being the problem but there isn't any type of adjustment on it's jaws.

Curt does offer a fifth wheel hitch that fits that rail kit directly though with the A20 part # C16034. Another option is the B and W Companion Hitch and Gooseneck setup that consists of the rail kit/gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1116-5W and then the fifth wheel hitch part # BWRVK3500-5W. • Correct Curt 5th Wheel Install Kit for a 2020 Ram 3500

The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit is a custom bolt-on fit with no cutting or drilling required into the frame. If you don't already have a fifth wheel hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16140 is my recommendation because of the interlocking dual jaw system which has a tight grip on the king pin and works to reduce chucking and jarring.

For a set of airbags, I recommend using the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs part # AL57289 because they do not require any drilling into the truck frame and they do not interfere with the brackets for a 5th wheel hitch.
