E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

Non-Binding S20 Slider

Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Replacement Head Unit for Curt E16 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Review

Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be going over the CURT E16 replacement 5th wheel head. This is designed to replace your E16 5th wheel head. If you've already got one and you're wanting to replace it. If it got damage or if it's old and rusty this is gonna be a perfect fit. It's also gonna come with the replacement bracket.

If you'd like to swap out the head on the S20 which is their new slider base, you can put this in, mount it to the correct height and then put this hitch head right in the top of it. You are gonna get all the replacement parts that initially come with the kit so you'll get new hardware, new pins, a new handle, and this bracket. The best way to get this set up inside the S20 base is to set your head height with the bracket first and then set the head on top of it. Now with our new hardware, we can set the height of our hitch a lot easier than a lot of other hitches out there. A lot of 'em are gonna have to set it with the head attached but this bracket only weighs about 10 pounds so it's really easy to get it in place.

Now to get your new head in place, it's as simple as setting it on top of the bracket. And again, it will come with two new pins. And that's, I think that's kind of nice 'cause when you're replacing you know, new parts you'd like to put new hardware in too 'cause chances are these are gonna be pretty wore out. So some of the reasons why you would need to replace your 5th wheel head is if it's got a lot of rust on it it's gonna start to affect the integrity of the strength of the hitch itself. So if it's got too much rust you might think about replacing it.

If you've not been using enough grease or any grease at all this head can start to score and once it starts scoring you can't really go back 'cause it needs a smooth surface to slide on your kingpin base. Another reason is your grease gets dirty that can cause scoring. If you're not using a lube plate. There's a lot of different reasons of why you would need to replace this head. If your mechanism isn't working correctly anymore.

But it's good to know that you can just replace the head. But with that being said, a lot of people what they'll do is they'll, if they have an A16 or an E16 head and they have the traditional base but they get a new vehicle and they'd like to switch to the slider, you can keep your old head, get the slider, and then later on you can replace the head. So there's several different options and reasons of why you would need a new E16 head. Well, with all that being said, we've got it all installed it's ready to go, and it's ready for our next trip.

  • Comparing the Curt Q20 and the Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitches.
As far as height adjustability and weight capacities the Curt Q20 # C16130 and the Curt A20 # C16140 are identical. They both have a Gross Towing Weight of 20,000 lbs, a Vertical Load Limit of 5,000 lbs, and a height range of 13-17 inches. When it comes to choosing which one is better, even though they are both excellent choices, I recommend going with the A20 because it has more features. Right off the bat the A20 has interlocking jaws to secure your king pin as opposed to the Q20 jaw...

  • Are The Curt 5TH Wheel Rails For 2015 F-250 Compatible With Pull-Rite SuperGlide?
Yes, the Curt Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit # C16424-204 for your 2015 Ford F-250 will allow you to use the Pull-Rite SuperGlide 2700ISR. I do recommend the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness # 41157 be installed at the same time. This way you can plug the 7-way into your bed.

  • What Is The Towing Capacity Of 2011 Ford F350 6.7L XLT SRW Crew Cab 8' Bed?
Hello CJ, thanks for reaching out. Based on the towing capacity chart I found online, the bumper pull capacity of a 2011 Ford F350 6.7L SRW Crew Cab is 14,000 lbs. The Curt Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # C99NR has a 10K capacity when used with the 2" ball, and a 15K capacity with the 2-5/16" ball. So as long as the 5-1/2" drop is sufficient for your trailer, that will be a great choice for a ball mount.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit for a 2016 Ford F-250
Yes, they are! Both the Reese item # RP56016-53 and the Curt item # C16424-204 5th wheel rails are compatible with your B&W Patriot Hitch item # BWRVK3270. These rail systems are also custom fit for the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I have linked installation videos below for both sets of rails. I recommend going with whichever one is more affordable. • Pros and Cons of 5th Wheel Hitch With a Slide Bar Jaw Versus a Dual Jaw Hitch
The difference between a slide bar jaw and a dual jaw is how tightly the fifth wheel king pin is held. Both do a good job securing the king pin, preventing it from coming loose. The Dual Jaw will hold the king pin much more tightly, preventing the king pin from rattling around in the pin box. Any movement of the king pin in the hitch jaws will be easily felt and heard in the truck cab. Every time the you brake or accelerate, if there's any movement in the hitch jaws-you're gonna feel...

I checked with Curt, the correct Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for a 2023 Ford F-150 is part # C93WR. If you are just looking for something to get you by however, the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with S20 Slider part # C95DR is a good option. The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit is...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 Crew Cab with 6-1/2 foot bed
I checked with Reese and you are correct, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit # RP56001-53 that you referenced is the correct install kit for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed. Since you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch, for that I recommend the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR.

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended Hitch to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2014 Toyota Tundra
The towing capacity of your 2014 Tundra is determined by Toyota, not either dealership. I recommend checking your owner's manual with your truck's specifics. Or you can contact Toyota with your VIN and they should be able to tell you how it came directly from the factory. I looked up a copy of your truck's manual but I'd still look at a printed copy if possible because as you said it has the tow package and 5.7L V8 but the capacity also depends on the bed length and cab style. From what...

  • Fifth Wheel and Rail Install Kit Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
A 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a Duramax diesel engine should have no problem towing a trailer with the weights you listed. Since different options will give different towing capacities you will still want to check with the Chevy dealer you are shopping at to be 100 percent certain. If a long bed truck is an option at all I would recommend that over the short bed. Short bed trucks require a slider hitch so that the setup has the needed clearance to make tight turns. While a ton of...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Install Bracket/Rail Kit for 2020 Chevy 1500 4x4 Short Bed
For a Reese 16K sliding 5th wheel hitch and the install bracket/rail kit, you could go with the # C95DR 16K sliding 5th wheel hitch and the # RP56015-53 install kit. However, I'd recommend the Curt A16 hitch, part # C16521 over what Reese offers. Unlike the Reese hitch, the Curt A16 offers a torsion articulating system for the hitch head which helps isolate the tow vehicle from road shock and noise. The interlocking hitch jaws hold the king pin much more tightly around its circumference...

  • 5th Wheel Towing Capacity and Recommendations for 2017 Ford F-150 with 3.5L V6 Engine
Based on the online specs I was able to pull up for the 2017 Ford F-150 it looks like your 4x2 SuperCrew model with the 3.5L GTDI V6 engine and 3.55 axle ratio can pull a 5th wheel trailer that weighs as much as 8,700 pounds at base or up to 10,400 if you have the max trailer tow package. Since you don't think you have this package you are looking at a 5th wheel towing capacity of 8,700 pounds. Since there are so many variables (as you have seen) I also recommend visiting a local Ford...

  • What 5th Wheel Hitch Fits 2003 Dodge Ram Short Bed Pulling Small 5th Wheel Trailer
In my research I have found that the Curt 16,000 lb 5th Wheel Hitch # C95DR should be a good choice to pull your 32 foot fifth wheel trailer and it has a 16,000 lb capacity so be sure that is what you need. Because you have a short bed truck you will want the slider hitch to give you the necessary clearance so you will be able to maneuver 90 degree turns without clearance problems. The installation kit is Curt # C16420-104 which comes with the rails, brackets and hardware and has a glossy...

  • Best 5th Wheel Hitch Options For My 2015 Ford F350 Short Bed
Hey William, For your 2015 Ford F350 I recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel # BW65QR. That is an 18k 5th wheel hitch with the installation base and frame rails. WE do not have an option right at the price point you are wanting, but that is one of the best quality hitches out there. Another option is the Curt 16k # C36FJ. For the price difference I recommend sticking with the B&W, I have had very good experience with that hitch and its ease of use. Does your truck have an OEM puck system...
