Features to know about

Built to Tow with Confidence: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load

This fifth-wheel hitch is rated for a 16,000-lb gross towing weight and a 4,000-lb vertical load limit. Its sturdy steel construction and carbide black finish give it the strength and durability needed for steady, reliable towing. The design provides a solid connection that feels secure from the moment you hook up to when you reach the campsite.

Smooth Hookups on Any Ground: Dual-Pivoting Head with 10-Degree Lateral Movement

Hooking up doesn’t have to be a fight. The dual-pivoting head lets the hitch move 10 degrees side-to-side, so it lines up easily even if the ground isn’t perfectly flat. When the king pin slides into place, the auto-locking slide-bar jaw clamps down tight for a smooth connection that stays secure mile after mile.

Quiet, Secure Connection: Slide-Bar Jaw with Rear Tension Bar

The E16 uses a slide-bar jaw backed by a rear steel tension bar that clamps around the king pin once coupled. This setup locks automatically in both directions and helps cut down on rattle and movement during travel. The result is a quieter ride and less chucking between truck and trailer.

CURT E16 fifth-wheel hitch with S20 slider showing slide-bar jaw and steel tension bar for secure trailer hookup on Ford Super Duty trucks.

Maneuver Tight Spaces Safely: Non-Binding S20 Slider with 12" Fore/Aft Travel

The included S20 slider gives you 12 inches of fore/aft travel to help with tight turns at slow speeds. It moves smoothly without binding, creating the clearance needed to keep your truck cab and trailer from getting too close when maneuvering in campgrounds or narrow spots.

Simple Setup and Adjustability: 4-Position Height Range from 14" to 17"

Getting level is easier with four height positions between 14 and 17 inches. The hitch mounts directly to included above-bed rails and installs with a complete hardware kit. Once set up, it’s ready for long hauls with dependable performance every trip.

Video Transcript for Replacement Head Unit for Curt E16 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Review

Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be going over the CURT E16 replacement 5th wheel head. This is designed to replace your E16 5th wheel head. If you've already got one and you're wanting to replace it. If it got damage or if it's old and rusty this is gonna be a perfect fit. It's also gonna come with the replacement bracket.

If you'd like to swap out the head on the S20 which is their new slider base, you can put this in, mount it to the correct height and then put this hitch head right in the top of it. You are gonna get all the replacement parts that initially come with the kit so you'll get new hardware, new pins, a new handle, and this bracket. The best way to get this set up inside the S20 base is to set your head height with the bracket first and then set the head on top of it. Now with our new hardware, we can set the height of our hitch a lot easier than a lot of other hitches out there. A lot of 'em are gonna have to set it with the head attached but this bracket only weighs about 10 pounds so it's really easy to get it in place.

Now to get your new head in place, it's as simple as setting it on top of the bracket. And again, it will come with two new pins. And that's, I think that's kind of nice 'cause when you're replacing you know, new parts you'd like to put new hardware in too 'cause chances are these are gonna be pretty wore out. So some of the reasons why you would need to replace your 5th wheel head is if it's got a lot of rust on it it's gonna start to affect the integrity of the strength of the hitch itself. So if it's got too much rust you might think about replacing it.

If you've not been using enough grease or any grease at all this head can start to score and once it starts scoring you can't really go back 'cause it needs a smooth surface to slide on your kingpin base. Another reason is your grease gets dirty that can cause scoring. If you're not using a lube plate. There's a lot of different reasons of why you would need to replace this head. If your mechanism isn't working correctly anymore.

But it's good to know that you can just replace the head. But with that being said, a lot of people what they'll do is they'll, if they have an A16 or an E16 head and they have the traditional base but they get a new vehicle and they'd like to switch to the slider, you can keep your old head, get the slider, and then later on you can replace the head. So there's several different options and reasons of why you would need a new E16 head. Well, with all that being said, we've got it all installed it's ready to go, and it's ready for our next trip.

Great product. I have a 2005 F250 SD short bed and the instructions were not written for my truck. The frame plates fit perfect. I did have too drill a new hole in the frame for the front hole on the plate. Over all a great product.

Ordered a fifth wheel rail and installation kit. It was delivered on time and was exactly what I ordered.

by: Ralph O.08/26/2012

Custom fit brackets made the job fairly easy, even though this was my first time to install a 5th wheel hitch. The installation took several hours, since I took my time and measured several times before drilling.

by: Randy10/03/2017

Pretty easy to install. As per instructions, I did have to drill one hole in the frame of the truck and Enlarge one hole. This brace system under the bed that attaches to the frame of the truck is a very heavy duty piece of equipment. I feel very safe with this choice because of this fact.

by: John02/05/2019

Did the job. Took me about eight hours to install. Had a little clearance problem with a rivet in the truck frame, so I had to do a little grinding to the bracket. But other than that it was good.

by: Alfred 03/05/2021

The parts arrived on time and undamaged! Always great customer service and timely delivery.

by: Robert 06/15/2021

Great recomendation by etrailer. Works great, positive lock and rides great. Im confident with this product, many thanks.

by: David 03/28/2023

Not installed yet but very fast shipping

by: Jeff T.05/15/2014

Everything was exactly as described. The only thing that could have been different and better with the product in my application was the single front tab on the side plates could have been double, just like the rear of the plates. Simple, easy installation. Did have to drill the front side plate mounting holes in the truck frame, no factory existing holes present, but no problem. The right side front hole is directly behind the shock tower. Over-all a great product.

Second time I have installed Curt kit. Process is fairly easy and instructions are good. Thanks to etrailer.com for great installation videos and quick shipping.

MY Q16 5TH WHEEL HITCH WORKS WONDERFUL IT IS WAY EASIER THAN THE OTHER TYPES.I GOT RIGHT ON THE MONEY THE 1ST TIME I HOOKED MY 5TH WHEEL.ALSO I BOUGHT THE WIRE HARNESS TO INSTALL IN THE BED OF MY F350 AND IT WAS A BREEZE TO INSTALL.

by: Jay Doshi08/28/2016

Put these on my 2006 F250 about a year ago, they have pulled my 10,000 lbs 5th wheel RV like a champ and also a 14,000 lbs skid steer and attachments using the gooseneck adapter like a champ. Only thing that gave out was a tire on the trailer!

by: ftig2409/20/2016

Not too hard to install holes lined up. Had to make the hole in the frame toward the front larger. After measuring the rails perfect hole placement to installed the rails. Took about 4 hours total. Very good help from the customer service at etrailer to match up the item and also save me a few dollars.

And I would also recommend installing a 7-Way # 41157 in your bed to not damage the wiring from extending over your tailgate.

  • What 5th Wheel Hitch Do I Need For My 2022 Ram Big Horn
I do have a solution for you, but there are quite a few variables. Your 2022 Ram Bighorn is available in all three sizes, 1500, 2500, and 3,500. I am not sure if you have the 5th wheel Load & Towing Groups package or if you have the Ram 1500, so I will recommend two 5th wheel hitches. One that will be compatible with a 5th wheel tow package and one that will not be compatible with that setup. If you have the 2500 or 3500 Big Horn with the 5th wheel tow package, I recommend the following: B&W...

  • How to Choose 5th Wheel Hitch Height for a 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500
The crossmember for your Reese 30031-14K 5th wheel hitch resembles the part # RP58147 on our site. To determine which of the 4 height adjustment options you need to choose for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 really just depends on the height of the king pin on your 5th wheel trailer and where everything needs to be for your trailer to be level. This applies to any 5th wheel hitch/5th wheel trailer towing setup out there. How you choose the correct setting is by parking your Chevy and 5th...

  • Base Rails and Installation Kit Recommendation for 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty
You can easily mount a fifth wheel hitch in your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty and to do that I strongly recommend the B&W Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit for Ford # BWRVK2402 because they do not require any drilling into your truck's frame to install and include galvanic isolators that are going to prevent corrosion in your Ford's aluminum bed. Not having to drill into your truck's frame is not only good for your truck but also reduces the amount of time it takes to install the rails....

  • 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit and Hitch Compatibility with 2013 Toyota Tundra
The 26 inch on center brackets do not make sense to me. The standard 5th wheel base rails are 22 inches by 20-1/2 inches where the majority of hitches fit and in some cases are 22 by 29 inches. The 26 inches makes me think you may have a different style or are measuring in a different location as there aren't hitches I'm aware of with a 26 inch base. My recommendation for your 2013 Toyota Tundra is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches...

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended Hitch to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2014 Toyota Tundra
The towing capacity of your 2014 Tundra is determined by Toyota, not either dealership. I recommend checking your owner's manual with your truck's specifics. Or you can contact Toyota with your VIN and they should be able to tell you how it came directly from the factory. I looked up a copy of your truck's manual but I'd still look at a printed copy if possible because as you said it has the tow package and 5.7L V8 but the capacity also depends on the bed length and cab style. From what...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 Crew Cab with 6-1/2 foot bed
I checked with Reese and you are correct, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit # RP56001-53 that you referenced is the correct install kit for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed. Since you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch, for that I recommend the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR.

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2013 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab 4X4 Short Bed
Unless the trailer you plan on towing has either a Sidewinder or a Reese Revolution pin box I can't safely recommend you install a B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200 in your 2013 GMC 2500HD that has a short bed because this is a non-sliding hitch that would not give you enough clearance to make 90 degree turns no matter how it is installed in the bed of your truck. For more information on Sidewinders I attached an FAQ article on them. In that article it will detail how to...

For your 2022 Ram 1500 non-EcoDiesel engine with a 6-1/2 Foot Bed, I suggest the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR using the Reese Quick-Install Kit, # RP56018-53. This will work well with your Forest River 240RE as the specs online show it to be a hitch weight of 1,350 lbs. with a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of just under 13K.

If you do not know what axle ratio you have first check the glove box for a sticker that lists this or call the dealer with your VIN. The 4,900 lb and 7,200 lb towing capacity does not leave an abundance of choices for a 5th wheel trailer however, there are still some available that...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2015 Ram 1500 with Air Suspension
At one point there wasn't a fifth wheel rail kit that fit the 2015 Ram 1500 trucks with air suspension but that has recently changed and the part # RP50142-58 will fit all models of the truck. If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you'd need a slider hitch like part # C95DR, if you have a long bed you'd want a stationary hitch part # RP30047.

Based on the online specs I was able to pull up for the 2017 Ford F-150 it looks like your 4x2 SuperCrew model with the 3.5L GTDI V6 engine and 3.55 axle ratio can pull a 5th wheel trailer that weighs as much as 8,700 pounds at base or up to 10,400 if you have the max trailer tow package. • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Install Bracket/Rail Kit for 2020 Chevy 1500 4x4 Short Bed
For a Reese 16K sliding 5th wheel hitch and the install bracket/rail kit, you could go with the # C95DR 16K sliding 5th wheel hitch and the # RP56015-53 install kit. However, I'd recommend the Curt A16 hitch, part # C16521 over what Reese offers. Unlike the Reese hitch, the Curt A16 offers a torsion articulating system for the hitch head which helps isolate the tow vehicle from road shock and noise. The interlocking hitch jaws hold the king pin much more tightly around its circumference...
