Notes:

  • This fifth-wheel trailer hitch is not compatible with Sidewinder or Revolution king pins. Do not use any device that changes the pivot point of your trailer's king pin with this hitch.

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM Slider

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

This slide hitch is, for me, an absolute must for hauling my fifth wheel with a standard sized truck bed on my F250 Super Duty. Without the slide I would be at great risk of rear of cab contact with the front of the camper. It's a great product for when I need to maneuver my camper; which is almost always either at the campsite or my driveway.

Indispensable for maneuvering my fifth wheel in tight situations. Other than the purchase of my fifth wheel itself this was the best decision I made.

by:

my companion 5th wheel hitch(rvk3370) hitch was delivered on 3/11, I installed it in a couple hours on 3/12. It was a piece of cake, the delivery was made with a lift gate truck that I back my truck up to and had the driver lower the lift gate down onto my tailgate, I unpackaged the hitch and was able to Maneuver it by myself into the puck system on my truck, I have the slider hitch so much heavier than the standard one, but still very easy for my 65 year old body to handle, the B t W was the only hitch I considered because of the ruggedness and quality of their products my truck is a 2023 Ford F 350

5th wheel hitch holding up great

by:

First off...IT IS HEAVY. In my mind, I said I would be able to manhandle this to get it int he back of the truck since it comes in two pieces, but the base is large and does not provide a safe way to lift by yourself, so you will need two people to get the base in. Once the base was in truck, I was able to maneuver it to get the puck hook ups in the right spot. Install was straight forward and works well. Is a great hitch, worth the money. Would definitely buy again.

by:

Took quit a while. Were tracking number is useless had to emai several times to get the Tforce tracking number. The one provided did not tracked down my own Pro number to track my order. The product itself is top notch, very well made and dropped right into my OE puck system.

by:

Kim O. was awesome. She said it would be delivered in 7 days and it actually was only 6. Installed in 40min. Can’t wait to make a long haul with it.

by:

The B&W Slider is the best hitch I’ve ever used.. Solid hookup and the adjustable height works perfect with my Arctic Fox 5th wheel. Easy to maintain and not difficult to remove if necessary.

2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Hitch arrived quickly. It was securely packaged and plastic wrapped on a pallet. Install was quick and per the instructions. I did have to use a mallet to get the locking cams to fully seat into the pucks. This was probably due to being the first time a hitch had been installed in the system. After that, everything went well. Etrailer shipped immediately after ordering and kept me notified it the order’s progress.

I am so glad that we purchased this hitch. Since I wrote the first review Ive changed trucks, trading the Ford F250 for a 2022 GMC AT4HD, moved the hitch to the new truck had to buy another base unit. The hitch continues to work flawlessly.

by:
2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Does not fit 2022 Ford F-250 OEM fifth wheel package. Feet of the base are a fraction of an inch too close together, striking the OEM pucks. Will not seat completely. One side may seat, the other side still sits on the edge of the puck.

No directions to assemble the hitch no torque specs for the bolts. and hitch did not fit the ford puck system without filing 1/16 of metal off the two right side fore and aft feet so it could drop into place. Disappointing for the money. Its all good now and seems well made otherwise.

2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Thanks to Etrailer for the fast shipping of the B&W Companion slider hitch. Installation was a breeze. I simply unboxed the hitch, placed it in the bed of my truck, opened the lock levers, set it over my factory installed pick system, closed the locking levers, inserted the pins, and the base was fastened in place securely. Finished by installing the pivot arm risers with four bolts each, applied a thin layer of grease to the bushings for a smoother pivot action, set the double jaw locking King pin head over the pivot, inserted the lock pins and finished. Less than 30 minutes to complete the install. Absolutely love how it works towing my new 5th wheel camper.

by:

A fantastic hitch. Positive locking jaws and very heavy duty parts. I’m grossing over 30K and this hitch handles it solidly. The slider is very handy in tight spots. I have the pin arms in the 3” forward position and my 21k Grand Design Momentum 381m rides very well. Highly recommended! etrailer is fast and knowledgeable in all their parts.

by:

The hitch arrived on a pallet and was properly packed and padded to prevent damage. Installation onto my Ford F350 puck system was super easy.

The hitch performed flawlessly. Hitching was very easy, and the slider function was easy to use. The was very little clunking.

I recommend this hitch if you're looking at a standard fifth wheel hitch.

by:

Installation was super easy. I had the delivery truck drop the packages directly into the bed of my 2019 F250 to avoid picking them up from the ground. One improvement opportunity, the release levers for the bed pins is too small for 1.5" #9 hardened shank padlocks and needs to be drilled out slightly larger. B&W should do this at the factory. Lubricating the pins allows for easier installation also. Otherwise, I'm happy with my purchase. B&W is the only hitches I trust.

by:

Couldn't beat the etrailer price, and shipping was crazy fast. Got the hitch in just a few days. Install was a piece of cake, the only challenging part was the sheer weight of this thing. A helper is definitely needed.

Hooking up my new 5th wheel was nice and easy. Way easier than my gooseneck trailer. Pulls like a dream, no clunking or noises. Sliding to the rearward position for maneuvering went really well too.

Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on my new camper and hitch!

2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Well built, straight forward assembly and installation for the Ford puck system.

I put an after market rubber mat I and cut 5 holes in it for the mounts in the truck bed. The plates have enough stand off to more than allow for the thickness of the mat.

I do wish the frame had 4 lifting eyes build in, I can use a hoist to get it into place in the pickup bead. Are the bolts on the slider frame long enough to allow for adding a plate to them? I'd hate to mess up the finish on the hitch

My wife and I have been researching options for towing our fifth wheel trailer for the past couple of months and since we had just purchased a Ford F250 short bed pickup, we decided on the B&W Companion Slider hitch based on the majority of positive reviews.
We received the slider hitch on a pallet last Friday, and it arrived in great condition and arrived much sooner than I expected! Thanks for the expeditious shipping. I decided to wait until Saturday to install as I had just installed a bedrug in the F250 we had purchased last week. (This F250 has the 5th wheel prep package installed which also aided in our decision on the Companion slider.) I had read that the Companion 5th Wheel Hitch could be installed with the bedrug installed, so I measured and cut out around the OEM Pucks in the bed. The pallet weighed about 330 lbs according to the Bill of Lading. It came in two boxes, the smaller one contained the head, and the large box had the slider assembly. I used a portable engine hoist and two slings to lift the slider assembly up onto the bed of the F250 and put cardboard under the legs to slide on the bedrug. Got it lined up and it sat in the pucks no problem. Only one of the locking handles closed on the first try. I had watched most of the install videos on the etrailer site and this made the install much easier. One thing I would recommend is to remove the covers on the sides covering the castle nuts. This makes adjusting them much easier and it only takes removing the two bolts holding the covers on. It took less than 10 minutes to get the other three castle nuts adjusted and get tension on the locking handles. From there I installed the two coupler pivot arms according to the instructions (at the highest setting) and torqued the bolts to the required 110 ft/lbs. Applied the white lithium grease to the bushings and set the head in place. Followed the rest of the install video instructions and did a test hookup to my fifth wheel trailer. Everything worked as described, and I was very pleased. Took the trailer out the next day for a test run of just over 120 miles and had no issues at all!
A fantastic purchase and very easy installation! I have enclosed some photos showing the Companion slider in the bed over the bedrug and also showing that the tonneau cover (Retrax Pro MX) has enough clearance to operate properly with no interference from the fifth wheel. This was another outstanding purchase through etrailer.com. Keep up the great work!

  • Options for Towing A Fifth Wheel With A 2022 F-350 Short Bed With OEM Puck System
With a 2022 F350 short bed, hitting the top of the bed rails should not be an issue with most campers. Turning clearance however, will certainly be a factor. That is one advantage of the Andersen Ultimate hitch # AM3200, as it provides a 9" offset. It is also very light (40 lbs) and will by far be the easiest to manage by yourself. Any other hitch is going to be at least quadruple that. For example, for your truck we would generally recommend a B&W companion hitch # BWRVK3370. Extremely...

The short answer is no you do not have to use a slide type hitch.
