Start towing your fifth wheel with a gooseneck ball without losing comfort. A built-in coil spring smooths out bumps and cuts down on chucking. And with the bed cleared, your truck stays useful for gear or daily driving when you're not towing.
Switching from a fifth wheel pin box to a gooseneck coupler isn't just about changing the connection. With this setup you get the benefits of a gooseneck (a clear truck bed when you're not towing and a simple ball connection when you are) while also gaining a smoother ride. The coil spring softens the bumps you get with a rigid coupler. Plus, it'll take the edge off when you cross bridge joints and dips that usually set off back-and-forth chucking.
This pin box bolts directly to the Lippert Rhino pattern with included hardware and it's approved for Lippert frames, so you can install it without worrying about your warranty. It's heavy enough that you and a friend should handle the lift, and following the torque specs is key to getting it set correctly. If an extra set of hands isn't available or you're not comfortable doing this yourself, we can help you find a trusted shop to install it for you.
The auto-latching coupler drops onto your 2-5/16" ball. But, the cool part is that it'll lock in on its own. You just back in, line up, and it clicks into place. That saves time when you're getting ready to head out of the driveway. When you're ready to unhitch, the release is just as simple.
One of the frustrations with air-ride systems is checking the pressure or having to top things off. Or even worse, trying to find a leak. The coil spring design avoids all of that. There are no bladders to inflate and no valves to fail. It'll stay ready between trips, so you can just hitch up without adding more things to your checklist.
Notes:
Your trailer's pin weight is the amount of weight pressing down on your truck through the king pin. It's the key factor in choosing the right Curt Helux pin box since each model is tuned to a specific pin-weight range. If it's too light, the coil springs won't engage correctly, but if it's too heavy, you'll overstress the system. When this number is accurate, the pin box performs the way it was designed and gives you the smoothest ride possible.
The most reliable method is to use a set of certified vehicle scales (like CAT scales).
This process accounts for how your trailer is actually loaded, which includes cargo and water tanks, so you know you're picking a pin box that matches the conditions you're using it with.
If you don't have access to a scale, you can get a ballpark figure with your trailer's GVWR:
This method gives you a starting point, but remember it's only an estimate. The actual pin weight can change depending on how you fill tanks and distribute weight in the trailer.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this CURT Helux Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Shock Absorbing Pin Box Adapter. Now this setup is going to replace your traditional fifth wheel pin box with a gooseneck coupler. That means that you're gonna get an easy connection to your two and 5/16 inch gooseneck ball and a clear truck bed when it's time to haul your tools, your bikes or camping gear. This upgraded coupler features a built-in coil spring, as you can see right here. So this is going to help smooth out bumps and it's gonna help cut down on that annoying back and forth chucking.
So this coupler is going to bolt directly to the Lipper rhino pattern with the included hardware that you see here on my table. And it is approved to be used on Lipper RV frames, so you're not going to have to worry about running the risk of your warranty. Now, whereas this is a simple installation with the hardware, this is very heavy. So you do wanna make sure that you're going to have enough support to get this lifted into place. I needed two other guys to help me get this on my table.
So just be aware that this is going to be heavy. It's a very robust product. So this does have a towing capacity of 20,000 pounds and a pin weight range from 2,800 to 5,000 pounds. So you must fall within that pin weight range for this to be effective for you. And if you don't know how to measure your your pin weight accurately, take a look at this product page.
We do have steps that you can follow so that you can actually, so you can accurately, rather, measure your pin weight to make sure that this one's gonna work for you or another Helux product that has a different pin weight will work for you. So avail yourself to that information on our page. So this coil spring and shock system are gonna work together to cushion road vibrations and help absorb those jolts that you're gonna get from potholes, bridge joints and dips. This is gonna be a big upgrade from rigid couplers and it's gonna give you a smoother, more relaxed towing experience. And unlike air ride systems that need regular pressure checks and occasional repairs, this coil spring system is gonna be ready whenever you are, so you're not gonna have to worry about air bladders or valves, just reliable performance every trip.
And this does feature an auto latching coupler that's gonna make hitching quick and stress free. You're just going to back in, line it up, and then when you drop it on that two and 5/16 inch ball, it's going to couple automatically. And then when you're ready to uncouple, we do have this cable here that's included. And so you're just going to pull back and that's going to allow you to easily disconnect from the ball. So you're not gonna have to like climb into the bed of your truck to do that. You'll just pull on that and disconnect from your ball, as simple as that. Safety chains are included. As you can see here, we got one on each side. And this is constructed of carbon steel with a slightly textured black powder coat finish. And so this is very rugged, very durable. It's gonna hold up really well for you and I think lasts you quite a long time. One other thing that I wanted to mention is this is not going to be compatible with CURT's Rocker Ball Cushion Hitch Gooseneck Ball, just so you're aware of that. So again, you're gonna get everything that you see here. And if you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this adapter or anything else that we carry here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out 'cause ultimately we wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
Easy to install. Works great. There is a noticeable reduction in chunking.
Glad the pin box was good. The box and pallet were damaged badly. Will be installing it tomorrow. I think it will enhance our ride while towing.
I received this curt helux pin box very quickly. I was impressed with how fast and how the shipment was handled. I've installed the pin box but haven't yet towed our 5th wheel yet. 1st camping trip later this month possibly. Maine weather needs to be a bit nicer. Anyway. So far very impressed with the product.
This pin box is absolutely amazing. Way smoother pull way less chucking ! Highly recommended this over any stock pin box.
I’ve only had my toy hauler out one since installing the hitch but went over a set of RR tracks and 3 bridges and it definitely makes a difference. Greatly soften the blows to the truck so you know it’s taking a lot of stress off the fifth wheel. Watched it workings through the rear view mirror. Simple design that someone should have come up with long ago. Took a friend of mine and I exactly 1 hour to install withe the help of his motorcycle jack on the tailgate of the truck. It’s heavy and well built. They are a little pricey but I feel well worth it for the longevity of the frame. Most importantly know the weight of your trailer loaded to pick the right one
