7 pin connector separated from cable.
I
was expecting that "Molded Cable" meant that the connector was fused to the cable insulation but instead, the two separated almost immediately after I installed it. It still works fine as the wires are connected securely inside the connector but with the outer covering pulled out like this, I don't think it will last very long.

Çable good but after putting new 7way plug on truck cable wire colors did not match etrailers picture

I know that the Hopkins harness wires are as follows for function: White Wire - Ground, Red Wire - Left Turn and Brake, Brown Wire - Right Turn and Brake, Green Wire -Tail Lights, Blue Wire -Brake Power, Black Wire -12 volt hot lead, Yellow Wire -Aux.. They will not necessarily match the trailer for color; you will want to match them for function. If the colors are not as they are stated here please let me know.

I installed this Hopkins connector cable on my 2003 Jayco 12 Sd popup camper because I replaced hydraulic brakes on it with the electric brakes. Needed some extra wires. Four were not enough to operate the lights and electric brakes. Installation was quick. I had to match wires on the trailer with cable wires. Cable looks great and so far it works great. We just checked out on our first camping trip this year.

by:

Very simple and well made. It’s a lot better than wadding up the cord and stuffing it in the fifth wheel hitch.

by:

Quality plug connector, works well and I'm sure will last a long time.

Still working well, no issues, seems to be very high quality.

by:

Easy plug in and use as advertised

The outer sheath for the pigtail has pulled away from the plug, exposing the wires inside. I fear the wiring will soon pull from the connections inside the plug. Im always careful to pull the plug out by the plug itself.

by:

Arrived in a timely fashion, easy installation and worked well.

by:

I bought a used trailer and it needed the cable replaced. The new cable is working great

by:

My wire harness was easy to install, looked great and performed great. One year later and it still looks and performs great! I definitely recommend to anyone building their own trailer or are looking to upgrade to better wiring! My homemade trailer was a great success, thanks to etrailer.com!

by:

I am replacing the trailer connection wiring harness as part of the brake system. My 5th wheel trailer is now 10 years old so this is a preventive maintenance step in the process. Hopefully with new wheel/brake parts my trailer brakes will work better.
Thanks ETrailer.com and Rebecca for great support.

Part enabled installation to be complet ed.

by:

Well built and plenty of length for wiring to my junction box.

by:

Had some real issues with this one. Should have noticed when purchasing this harness is not wired using standard truck/trailer color format. Other than that it went together fairly nice. If the connector would come apart I was thinking of fixing the wiring my self.

by:

It was just like the one that I was replacing. I cut a corner to sharp while turning and pinched the cable that came with my Keystone RV. Like for like.

by:

Pros: Best wire gauge in a 7 pin connector I could find.

Cons: reverse lights (red), left turn (yellow), right turn (green), and running light (brown) and not wired correctly in the plug for their respective wire colors.

I bought this for a sealed plug with good gauge wire to help save some time. What I got was a total headache trying to find out the problem of why it was not working correctly. This might not have been so bad had it not been on a new to me truck that I was not so trusting of the wiring in it. So I wound up looking at the truck first not thinking the plug would be wired incorrectly.

Be warned.

by:

Part of brake wiring assembly. I followed etrailer's wiring diagram.

by:

Thanks for your help with parts for my trailer build. My wife and I are still making custom cabinets out of curly maple. We hope to finish this winter. We have taken it out 7 times this season. Thanks again.

by:

Exactly what I ordered. Prompt delivery and notifications!

by:

Exactly like described - great job.

by:

This has been a great replacement harness and was easy to install.

by:

exact replacement made the repair easy.

by:

These folks are Top Notch, they kept me updated on my part, and followed up after delivery. Not to forget, my trailer side wiring harness, is solid and I fully expect no issues when I install it. Thank you!!

by:

This trailer was built from scratch using only the metal frame. I purchased some items from etrailer an was very satisfied with the products.

by:

Worked perfectly. I like the extra length compared to the original cable.

by:

only negative is nothing to say what wire goes to what function. basically no diagram sheet but that is easily found Info

  • Installing Battery Isolation Solenoid Downstream from Trailer Connector
You can convert your trailer connector and mount the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 downstream from the plug. One place the ignition power post could be connected to is your trailer's running lights. If you tie in the ignition switched power post into the running lights, then your running lights will need to be on for your battery to charge. I called Tow Ready to double check, and they verified there would be no issue to mount the solenoid on the trailer and tie into the running...

I suggest you test the trailer lights directly, without connecting the trailer to any vehicle, by applying power from a 12V battery. You can use a well-charged spare 12V battery if you have one around or you can use a set of jumper cables to draw power from your vehicle battery and then use short wire leads from the cable clamps to the trailer plug. What you want to do is secure the battery negative to the trailer plug's ground pin. Then one by one you can test each lighting circuit on...

  • Wiring Trailer with 4-Pole Connector for Electric Brakes
In order to wire your trailer so the new electric brake assemblies can be activated, you will need to first install a 7-Way connector. I recommend removing the 4-Pole connector already on the trailer and installing a 7-Way like the Hopkins # H20046. You can use a junction box like # 38656 and 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to run the brake output circuit from the junction box to the brake assemblies. I have attached a video demonstration on this junction box so you can see...

  • 7-Way 12 Volt Circuit Not Working on Trailer With 3 Different Trucks
There should be a fuse for the 12 volt auxiliary circuit on your trucks, but you'd have to check each individual owner's manual for the location. That said, it seems very unlikely that each truck would have this simply stop working and the circuit would be blown. I'm nearly positive that is instead the wiring or 7-way on your trailer that is causing this issue, as even a bit of corrosion in the plug can stop the signal from getting through so the best course of action, if the fuses are...

For you to retain the functions of the electric brakes on your car hauler trailer you will need to use a connector that will carry the power for all of the functions from the vehicle. For what you are doing you would be better off using a 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20046 since it has all 7 circuits and the brake output circuit wire has 12 gauge wire. This is a proportional controller which activates the trailer brakes in proportion to the brakes on your Sorento. • What Gauge Wire Should be Used to Wire Trailer Brakes
That's a very good question, we tend to be extra cautious and say to use 10 gauge wire because that would be more than enough. When you get into longer trailers that will end up using a lot of wire the heavier gauge wire becomes more necessary. On a smaller trailer with a single axle of brakes 12 gauge wire would probably be enough. But for a longer tandem axle trailer I would recommend you run 10 gauge wire to all the assemblies just to minimize the amount of resistance that would be on...

  • How to Ground Trailer Brakes on an Aluminum Trailer
On an aluminum trailer I would recommend you ground the brakes by running the ground wire back up to the ground circuit of the connector on the trailer. Aluminum frames do not make the best ground points so I wouldn't ground the assemblies to the frame. You would most likely have pretty weak braking performance if you did. I attached an FAQ on wiring that you might find helpful also.

In addition, I was able to fit comfortably eleven individual 16-gauge wire # DW02359-1 into the 1/2-inch wire loom.
