Reduce the frustration associated with troubleshooting trailer wiring problems with this lighted 7-way connector. It has built-in LED lights that help you determine quickly and easily if the issue is with your tow vehicle or your trailer. Just plug the connector into the 7-way on your vehicle. No need for separate testing tools. Then activate each function on your vehicle and a red light will come on if power for that function is being received by the connector. If there is power going into the connector for all of the functions, then you know that the problem is on the trailer end and you will need to check your trailer's wiring. Each function except for ground is represented by a separate light and the functions are labeled for easy identification.

Took way too long to arrive. I wish etrailer would have used UPS and not USPS.

by:

The built in tester is very nice. It is my default plug now

by:

It's a little difficult to insert larger diameter wires into the terminals on this connector but it works as designed and has a good quality feel to it.

Love how sturdy the product is, great q uality!

Very good product and great customer service from etrailer! The plug was easy to install and looks well made however keep in mind (as stated by another reviewer) if you are installing this on a trailer that has a battery such as a camper, the aux light will stay on since it is receiving power from the camper battery. You could install a diode, cut the wire going to the light, or leave it since it doesn't draw much power. Be sure to not over tighten the screws holding the wires either because they can strip. The plug took a little extra time to ship so etrailer called and emailed me to let me know! That is terrific customer service in my book and that is why I will continue to be a very happy customer with them! Thank you!

After a year, the connector is still in great shape and working great!

by:

I will be using the unit only to test our vehicles for proper operation at the vehicle trailer connector. for this purpose it has performed perfectly. I have no doubt that it will perform as well when used as designed, in an application as an actual connector for an individual trailer.

I have used the test feature of the connector numerous times. It has allerted me to a failure within the trucks 7 way connector which has been fixed. It has also been instrumental in allowing me to determine that the trucks system is working properly while trying to find a fault in the trailer right turn signal. I have found that the 5 pin input plug is extremely tight when attempting to connect my trailers 5 pin into it, actually even more difficult to extract the 5 pin connector from it. I am still using it as a testtroubleshoot tool only.

by:

I bought this because my new car-hauler trailer's "7"pin connector only has 6 pins. Since my trailer did not have back-up lights the trailer company thought they could save a few pennies and install a slightly cheaper connector. Since it's the center pin that carries the juice for back-up lights, that was the one that was missing.
This connector solved that problem. After installing two fairly bright flood lights on the back of my long car-hauler trailer I ran a hot wire up to the front of the trailer, chopped off the "6"pin connector and installed this connector with all seven wires. What a difference! I can now back this long trailer into my 80' deep, dark building without running into stuff. ha I really like the LED test lights built into this plug. You instantly if any non-lit lights are the fault of the tow vehicle or the trailer wiring.

by:

Exactly what I wanted, to be able to confirm the connector is receiving power from the vehicle which is great for troubleshooting. My old connector often wouldn't make a connection, easy to see if this one is connected or not. Easy to connect, and you can orient the LED's and any of 4 different directions. My cable was slightly to big to fit through the connector, I had to remove some of the thicker outer insulation and replaced it with heat shrink tubing. The wire connections work well but could be a bit easier, the screw is right in the middle of the connector which means the wire has to go to one side or the other of the connector.

One other oddity, to be expected when you think about it, is the LED for Power to the trailer (charging the trailer battery when connected) is always on, even when disconnected, since it is still connected to the trailer battery. I may consider installing a diode on the trailer side to prevent this.

Just installed it but so far very pleased with it.

by:

Easy to wire and very convenient indicator lights. Only thing to be aware of is the power light will stay lit if your trailer has a battery (e.g. a camper) and so it will put a small drain on it. Not really consequential if you're properly taking care of your battery anyway (disconnect or trickle charge when not in use).

Exactly what i thought i ordered easy to wire an install by instructions provided delivery was faster than expected looking forward to doing more busines with etrailer again great product

Outstanding

by:

I recently purchased a Hopkins 7 Blade RV style connector with LED test light display. The quality of the product is 4 stars, but the ability to see, or read what the LED indicator lights are indicating are very difficult. It’s black raised letters on a black background of the connector housing. Without already knowing what lights location is indicating, there’s no way you know what your viewing! So, the LED indicator lights are maybe 2 stars, maybe!

This review is based upon this item becoming defective after complete and successful initial installation. After a few weeks since I installed this product on one of my utility trailers the front portion of the clam shell hosing simply fell apart. I contacted Hopkins to ask IF their product’s plastic in any way reacted negatively with di-electric grease. I was informed by Hopkins tech support it did not, in any way. After speaking with eTrailer’s tech support I ordered and they quickly mailed me a replacement of the same item. The replacement is now installed on the same utility trailer, using the same di-electric grease I used the first time. As I told Hopkins, IF the replacement falls apart in the same place, in a similar manner, they do in fact have a serious problem on their hands! I will mail the defective Hopkins product back to eTrailer and they will issue me a refund. I’m hoping eTrailer gets the defective 7 blade connector back to Hopkins for their review!

by:

Very happy with my choice of this brake controller. Full of features that make it worth the price. I especially like the ability to store 3 different trailer settings. This makes it easy to use when you tow several different trailers without having to manually change the brake settings.

by:

Finally a trailer plug that lets you know the wiring is good to this point. Easy install and seems to be very durable. Great price. I always go with Hopkins plugs as thier connections are not brass and do not corrode easily like many other brand. But one; you'll like it.

by:

Connector was as good as its description. One page instruction sheet was clear and the 2 review videos were very helpful. It confirmed good power feed to the trailer when I was troubleshooting a light malfunction that turned out to be a faulty ground at the light.

by:

Only tested the LED lights so far. Haven't wired to the trailer yet. That's why only 4 stars. I'll send further info after I wire it up. So far, so good.

by:

LEDs are helpful, knowing that the electrical connection is good at that point.

Well, weather not aging it much. Reliable even a year later.

by:

Color coding didn't match the trailer and it is difficult to connect trailer wiring to terminals

by:

I use it for drag on trailer connectors on vehicles at work. Makes for easy quick test.

by:

Simple and inexpensive way to confirm you have power going to the contacts... so you know problems are in your wiring not car's LOL Simple & effective.

by:

Very well built, and I really like the power indicator light to tell me if I have it all the way into the socket.

by:

This connector was superior to the factory installed one and was easy to install.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for. Great quality and quick shipping.

by:

This is a quality item!
Easy to install.
Needed
to match the wires on my old plug as, the color coding was different on this plug.
Installed and tested! All works fine.

by:

This plug is a easy and quick way to varify that the receiver port is working.

  • Connection Indicators on Hopkins # HM48503 7-Way Connector
Yes, if you have correctly attached the wires to your Hopkins # HM48503 7-way trailer connector with test lights, then each of the LED indicators will light as the function is used. If the tester light does not light up, then the corresponding light or function on the trailer will not work either. If you have other circuits flashing that means there is a short between circuits. I first recommend opening up the connector and seeing if you find any corrosion. Hey Miguel, Typically when using a tester and getting 3 functions blinking at the same time it indicates and issue with the vehicle end or the wiring or connector. It is most likely a short circuit of sorts or a bad ground wire. The bad ground would cause it to send power to multiple functions at once. • Will Trailer Battery Cause 12 Volt Accessory Circuit LED of Hopkins Connector # HM48503 To Light Up
Your trailer battery is the reason the 12 volt accessory circuit on the 7-way part # HM48503 is lighting up all the time. It's voltage is backfeeding to the connector and lighting the LED. This LED draws such a low amount it would take a very long time to have any real impact on the battery life. Since inactivity naturally drains batteries the battery would have already drained from inactivity before the light would drain it due to it's very low amperage draw.
