Video Transcript for Bargman 7-Way RV-Style Connector Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bargman 7-way RV style heavy duty connector. They're available in 3 different sizes, in 6 foot with part number 54006-057, in 8 foot, part number 54006-058, and then finally in 10 foot, part number 54006-059. This 7-way is excellent as a replacement or if you're wiring up a new trailer. It's a pre-wired, 7 blade style connector. The cable itself is flexible so it's easy to position, and the insulated jacket is ideal for cold weather. The easy to grip pads make it easy to disconnect from the vehicle end.Mike works with our customers.

Tell me Mike, what are customers wondering about a 7-way Mike: You can see here they're all different colors and they don't necessarily match up, so what the customers I work with want to know is, what does each of these wires do What Bargman did, they put this tag on all these, and a lot of companies do this, and it tells you the wire color and the function. Then, all you have to do is match it up to the right function on your trailer wiring or to the right function if you're adding new stuff. Speaker 1: Makes it way easier. Mike: It does. Another thing, with this one in particular, it's good for cold weather.

It has really good insulation in there. Another question we get is about the wire gauges on each of these wires, and the 2 larger ones are your power and ground. Blue here is for electric brakes, so these are all bigger, and then the smaller ones are for the lights. Speaker 1: Okay, cool. Well thanks for the information, Mike.

Mike: No problem. Speaker 1: Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. The jacket on our Bargman 7-way comes pre-stripped. To help us out with our installation, we're going to be using some ring terminals, part number 44-5310A.The first step is to strip back my wires. Now since I'm using a junction box, I'm going to want to stagger my wires for a cleaner look.

In my junction box, I know that my white wire is last, so I'm going to want to leave this one the longest. Every wire after that, I'm going to cut a half inch shorter, that way it gives me that clean look. You'll want to double check your junction box to find the order of your wires. To help me out, I took a picture of my junction box with my cell phone, that way I can just follow along. What I'm going to do now is strip back a 1/4 of an inch, clean out my wire, and then place it on my ring terminal. We want it to where we can see the wire just inside but not hanging out. Then I'll take my crimpers and crimp that tight. It's a good idea to check to make sure you've got it nice and crimped and we can go ahead and repeat the same process with the rest of the wires. When you're done, yours should look something like this, depending on the order of your wires. Now let's go to the trailer. Here underneath my trailer, I've gone ahead and removed the cover off my junction box. Now if you need a junction box, you can pick one up here at Here you can see it's already wired up for my trailer wiring. We'll just be adding our 7-way for vehicle connectivity. Since the front of my trailer is this way, I'm going to be coming in my junction box here, so I'm going to put this over my wiring. Now with my grommet in place, as you can see here, this is where it's going to go, let's go ahead and start wiring up our junction box. We'll start off with our blue wire, which on the 7-way is our brake, put it here. After we get this one done, we'll just continue down the line. I've gone ahead and connected my blue wire to my brake, my brown wire to my right turn, my green wire to my tail lights, my red wire to my left turn, my yellow wire to my back up, my black wire to my battery, which is my power, and then finally my white is my ground. Now if you need help routing your 7-way to the front of your trailer, it can be helpful to use some metal loom clamps, and you can pick those up with part number A0500. Before we button up our installation, we're going to test it out with our tester. The best way for you to test it out at home is with your vehicle. Here's our running lights, our brake lights, our right turn, and now here's our left turn. That's going to complete our look at the Bargman 7-way RV style heavy duty connector.

This molded, 7-way, RV-style, trailer-end connector allows you to connect your trailer to your vehicle. Insulated cable covering is ideal for cold temperatures. Hardwires to existing wiring.

Our order was prompt and does what we need it to do. Our old cable was slightly damaged and needed replacement.

it worked great on my trailer

During an outing earlier this year when we started having an intermittent "trailer disconnect" warning, I mistakenly figured that the problem might be in the plug so I bought a low-end aftermarket unit at a nearby auto parts store and replaced it. During the next outing, the trailer brakes completely failed, and I was later able to properly diagnose the various issues and discover just how bad the situation was! As part of a complete electrical and mechanical brake system replacement, I decided that a new plug and cable assembly was also called for, so I selected this one due to (a) the type of contacts in plug assembly and (b) the fact that it has a silicone rubber jacket on it. When I installed it I was very impressed with the quality of materials and construction. Also, it is very flexible, and therefore doesn't want to pull away from the tow vehicle when it's plugged in, plus it coils and stows easily when it's unplugged.

This connector and cable assembly looks and functions as good as when I first installed and tested it. I couldnt be happier with it.

Very flexible and durable.

This is my 2nd time buying this product for a different trailer. Very flexible material. A good cable..

Very good product. The connectors are split pins rather than single so it makes a good connection. Also, I used it on a snowmobile trailer and it stays flexible in cold weather.

Still working great. Stays flexible in the cold weather which is a great upgrade from the OEM that cracked and split from the weather.

Make sure your vehicle end is wired for a RV configured plug most trucks are not they are wired for automotive configured plugs as in yellow left turn green right turn and brown running lights, this connector is not wired this way.

Replaced factory wiring on PJ trailer. Factory wiring would crack in the cold Montana winters and break wiring. Very pleased with flexibility of this product.

Super soft and flexible.

This cable is very flexible. Nice qual ity.

Product is fantastic. Durable, yet flexible in all kinds of weather

This is a great cable for my Airstream. Right color code and AWG. Higher flex for those cold mornings.

This worked as advertised and is easy enough to change out. I was surprised that the blue outer jacket wasn't molded to the internal wires I ordered this on a Sunday and received it Friday.....kinda slow shipping via USPS

I've been ordering parts from Etrailer now for about 2 years... The parts have always come well packaged, and in a very timely manner. Ive also found that etrailer has most any part i've ever needed for all of my trailers. Service is great and will continue to order from them.

This has much more flexibility than your factory plug.

Nice cord. Soft, flexible, nicely color coded. Highly recommend.

Still working great. No problems at all. Well worth the investment.

Excellent service, I received my order very quick for a great price.

  • Trailer Wiring Connector Recommendations for Extreme Weather Conditions
We always recommend using Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors when wiring connections are going to be exposed to the elements. These use the standard butt connector to splice the wires together and then there is a shrink wrap on each one that seals away the wiring when heated up with something like a heat gun or a lighter. You will need 2 basic sizes of connectors for trailer wiring: - 16-14 Gauge # DW05744-10 - 12-10 Gauge # DW05745-10 Since you'll be in extreme weather conditions I also...
