From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the receiver tube is 2 inches past the bumper. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 19 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation. On the driver side, it would be necessary to take the one bolt out of the support bracket. The support bracket will stay in position as it will get sandwiched in between the hitch and the frame. Now with all our fasteners exposed, we need to go ahead and clean out each one of the weld nuts in the frame. Overtime the threads will become clogged up with rust, dirt, dust and debris.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2005 Jeep Liberty, we are going to install part number 13044 from Curt. The first step involved is to go ahead and remove the recovery hook right here. This part will actually come off and stay off because there is no room for this and the hitch. Alright, to remove the hook there are three bolts that we need to take off from the frame. OK, now we will go ahead and show you where the attaching points are on the vehicle. There is going to be this weld nut, this one and this one, that was covered up by the hook. Now, the ones that have been exposed, you probably want to clean them out a little bit. So we are going to use some lubricant and just go ahead and spray it down. Then we will go ahead and thread one of the hitch bolts into it. You want to go in a few threads and back it off and then go a few more until you can run it all of the way through to the other side. Our driver side of the vehicle is finished now. Let us go over to the passenger side and clean out the threads over there. 0:55

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2003 Jeep Liberty, we are going to install part number 13044 from Curt. First off, we will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up on the vehicle. It is going to be using these three existing threaded holes in the frame. Now, since this is an older vehicle, we are going to have to take some time out to clean up the threads on the vehicle here. And we are just looking at the driver side. This is going to be identical, as well, on the passenger side. The first step to do is to go ahead and spray it down with some lubricant. Let it soak in a little bit. Then use one of the hitch bolts to help thread in a little bit and try to work some of that dirt and grime and rust out of there. We will go ahead and repeat the same process on the rest of these bolts. This will take a considerable amount of time to clean these out. 0:43

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2004 Jeep Liberty we are going to install part number 13044 from Curt. The first thing we need to do on our vehicle is to lower the exhaust so you can get a little more working room on the passenger side of the vehicle. We are going to spray down the rubber exhaust hanger with some lubricant and just pry it off and get it out of the way. Next we will install a strap onto the exhaust just to help hold it out of the way a little bit because there is one hole in the frame that is just curved by the exhaust pipe. We just need to move it over just a little bit. Now we can show you the locations of where the hitch is going to bolt up on to the frame. 00:34

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2007 Jeep Liberty we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13044. We are underneath the vehicle and we are taking a look at the driver side frame rail. As you can see, we have three existing weld nuts here, one at the rear side, one at the middle and then one at the forward side. Those are going to provide our three attaching points for our trailer hitch. And that is going to be the same on both the driver and passenger sides. Into those weld nuts, we are going to be installing 12 millimeter bolts, along with a conical tooth washer, that is provided with our hitch installation kit. And what you may notice is that the weld nuts have some corrosion or road grime built up in them, like on this vehicle. So the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and clean those out thoroughly. To do that, we just want to take a spray lubricant, like a WD-40 and go ahead and spray that down. Then we just want to take a thick bristled wire brush of some sorts and go ahead and run that in there. You probably need to do that a couple times. And we just want to repeat that for all six of the weld nuts. 1:02

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2012 Jeep Liberty

The Curt hitch has the same quality construction and capacity as the other choices, but with a more economically friendly price. I have attached an installation video of this hitch on...

  • Comparing Spare Tire-Mount and Hitch-Mount Bike Carriers for 2006 Jeep Liberty
  • Between a hitch-mount rack and a spare tire-mount rack I will always recommend the hitch rack since this type of bike carrier does not place any weight burden on the car's rear hatch. Instead, a hitch rack uses the vehicle's strongest part - its frame - to handle the weight of the loaded bike rack. Your 2006 Jeep Liberty can be fitted with either a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch or a higher capacity 2-inch Class III type. All available options are shown on the linked page. Some bike racks...

  • The Included Bolts Will Not Fit in the Weldnuts on Trailer Hitch 75128 on a 2002 Jeep Liberty
  • We have had this question before on a 2002 Jeep Liberty. Basically, there could be some dirt and grime gumming up the works and getting stuck in the weld nuts. This would make them hard to insert the bolts into. You can try cleaning them out real well using a spray lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster. Let it soak for a while and then dive in with a wire brush, like the Battery Post and Terminal Cleaner - Wire Brush, # DW00254, and some elbow grease to clean out the weldnuts. Once clean,...

  • Trailer Hitch Fits for 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport
  • There are two primary causes for a hitch fit to appear incorrect when you go to install it. If the shipping carrier subjected the hitch to rough handling - one good drop from a truck will do it - the alignment of the mounting flange holes can be off, making it all but impossible to install it without first re-bending it back to its original dimensions. This kind of shipping damage can be hard to detect until you go to mount the hitch. The hitch can look perfect but still be bent. The...
