When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

  • Recommended Drum to Disc Brake Kit for a 3500 lb Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
Mark, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35DKG appears to be what you're looking for but you're going to need to verify which bearings your trailer uses right now to make sure it's compatible. The bearings, actuator # DX29FR and brake lines # 18TA-BLKIT would need to be added separately as well.

  • What Size and Grade Mounting Hardware for the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout part # DX29FR for disc brakes and part # DX27FR for drum brakes use 1/2" diameter mounting hardware. We have used both grade 5 and grade 8 bolts when doing installations of them but the grade 5 are sufficient. There is very little force actually applied to the bolts other than side pull.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator For Trailer W/ Older Swing Away Actuator For Disc Brakes
Thank you for the pictures! For a replacement option I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K # DX29FR to replace your current actuator. The # DX29FR has a 7500lb trailer weight rating, is designed for trailers with disc brakes, and is a bolt on replacement. You will likely also need a replacement swing away tongue adapter like the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3" x 4" Tongue # FHDPB340301 which fits 3" x 4"...

  • What Surge Brake Actuator do I Need for My 2009 Ranger Boat Trailer Replacing UFP A-60?
Hey Mickey, We definitely have an surge brake actuator that is going to work for you. I do not have a database that supplies me with what is put on what trailer, in my research I found that most 2009 Rangers have the TDE LP75 which makes sense because that is what I have on my 2004 Ranger Comanche. I am showing that you have a 3 x 5 trailer tongue, but just in case there is the 3 x 4 as well: - 3" x 5": Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX56FR - 3" x 4": Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator...

  • Could Dexter A-60 Coupler Fit 2005 Four Winds Trailer
If you have a coupler actuator that looks like the # DX29FR but it mounts inside the channel on the trailer frame what you would most likely actually want is the inner member of this coupler with the part # DX99FR. This is the inner section of the Dexter actuator which it sounds like you have the outer section welded to your trailer frame.

  • Comparing Dexter Surge Brake Actuators DX29FR And DX89FR
Hello Jarrod, thanks for reaching out. The main difference between the Dexter # DX29FR and # DX89FR is how they attach to the trailer tongue. Each will fit a 3" wide tongue. The # DX29FR is designed to bolt onto the end of the tongue, whereas the # DX89FR is intended to sit on top of the tongue. Both use the same 3" bolt spacing, you will just want to pick whichever one installs the same as your current actuator. I have included a few pictures with examples below. I hope this helps, and...

  • What Brake Actuator will Replace My Dexter Model LP75 Disc Brake Surge Actuator?
Hello Chris, Yes, it would be quite difficult to find a replacement master cylinder for your Dexter model LP75. The brake actuator was actually a Tie Down Engineering part that Dexter took over as Tie Down Engineering is no longer in business but from what I can tell is no longer made, sometimes you can find somewhere with some old stock. For a replacement I would go with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX29FR. It is rated at 7,500 pounds, electric reverse lockout lets you back...

  • Replacement for Dexter A-60 Brake Actuator
Hi Joshua; you can respond to the email that had the link for this page if you want to send me the video. It does sound like it is the actuator, could be the shock in there or the master cylinder. It would also be worth checking to see if the brake fluid is low. For a replacement you can use the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX83FR for drum or # DX56FR for disc brakes. Both are designed for a 3" x 5" tongue. If you check out the attached picture you can see the blue wires that run to it. It does also come with the manual lock out key as well like you noticed. • Troubleshooting Reverse Lockout Solenoid Not Working on Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator
There are only 3 real possibilities for your lockout failing to work properly on the # DX29FR. The first would be the power. Since it sounds like you are getting 12V power to the solenoid it doesn't sound like this is the issue. The second would be the ground. Make sure your ground connection is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. Also, the wires are interchangeable so it doesn't matter which is the power and which is the ground. If these both check out it is likely a bad solenoid valve....
