Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Honda Pilot - Draw-Tite

All right, today on this 2006 Honda Pilot, we're going to install part number 75599 from Draw-Tite. All right, this is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on a vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements to help you in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 18-1/2". From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 3-1/4". Now I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.

All right, the first thing we need to do is go ahead and remove the tie-down hook on the driver's side. This will not be reinstalled. There will be three bolts we have to remove. Now the three bolts that are removed will be the same attachment points for the hitch. Now that's it for the driver's side.

Now we'll go ahead and work over on the passenger side. There's three existing threaded holes that we'll have to clean out before we can install our hardware. We'll clean it out with some spray lubricant and then use the tube brush to help clean out the threads. The tube brush will be part number 814092. Now the older the vehicle is, the more time this will take.

Eventually it may need a thread tap to help clean out the threads. Okay, once we have all three holes cleaned out, we can go ahead and install the hitch. First, we'll go ahead and show you how the hardware interacts to the hitch. We'll take our bolt and our conical-tooth washer, put them together, and then install them through the hitch as shown here. This will be for all fasteners, all the way around the hitch.

So now with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and hold the hitch up and install the hardware. On the passenger side, we'll slip it over the top of the exhaust, then we'll put it up against our frame, then we'll install our hardware. Sometimes you may have to push the heat shield out of the way to get a little bit of working room. With all our hardware loosely installed, we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts, and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. And with that, that will finish it for part number 75599 from Draw-Tite, on our 2006 Honda Pilot.

Exceptionally pleased with this hitch purchase from etrailer. You guys are awesome, delivered and met all expectations, solid, aesthetically good, and met the need! We purchased a Hollywood 4-Bike / HR 1400 that we use for (3) cruisers and one road bike. Using my GMC Yukon to tote it around, and we wanted to option to utilize our Honda Pilot to do the same, thus, this hitch. (BTW if you are shopping for the best bike racks, Hollywood has proven themselves superiorly designed with a perfect price point here at etrailer) Anyway, back to the hitch: the only issues we had were due to the age of the Pilot. The threaded nuts pressed into the inside of frame were corroded and/or seized. I bathed them in PB Blaster, cleaned, ect... still had to use father in laws impact driver to break them free.... one broke off on the inside of the box frame (irrecoverable), had to drop the spare and cut it off with a Sawzall, no biggie. Attempted to re-thread the corroded side with a threading tool, didn't work so well, so used the impact driver and the old tapered bolts that I could remove from one side to "carefully re-thread" the other side. Then mounted the hitch will all the new hardware etrailer provided, walla! In the end, all came together perfectly, just took a little perseverance and creativity. Had the Pilot been newer (2006) and not subjected to Midwest weather, there would have been no issues whatsoever. etrailer has become my go-to shop for such items, tremendous support, and I am totally comfy, never thought I would purchase bike racks or trailer hitches on-line, now I am a believer! PS: Sorry I don't have a pic handy, but assure you that the hitch looks sharp, and even better with 4-bikes/rack attached to it (I think I better get some oversized load lites) 431278

I received my order on time, the trailer hitch receiver was just as described. I have cruzed etrailer.com site and have found some other items I'll have to get. I found this web site very helpful with accurate descriptions and videos. 560209

I'm usually hesitant to buy universal parts online but the fit guide and install video were great. They gave me piece of mind so I pulled the trigger. The hitch arrived on time and the install went as planned. Just like the video. Took others advice and brushed out holes. Total install time was just under 30mins with the help of a hydraulic jack (had the jack handle positioned under the car so I could lay on my back, hold up one side of the hitch with one hand, and raise the jack using my other hand. Looked real smart, but of course wife and father-in-law nowhere about to witness.) I highly recommend etrailer and will definately buy from them again. 41734

This is the second hitch I have purchased from e trailer. The hitch arrived on time and the installation directions were straight forward and thorough. The hitch was easy to install and is an excellent hitch. Although I did not have anyone available to help me, I was able to install the hitch in about 30 minutes (I am 72). The previous hitch was for my Toyota pickup and was also easy to install and an excellent hitch. I have also purchased two wiring harness and they are easy to install and an excellent product. Thank you for your great products, videos and service 92588

Could not be happier with the products, the perfect fit, the fast deliver and the ease of installation I installed them myself as well as one for my Tacoma truck that I bought about 2 years ago However, I do recommend a second person to help as you state in your directions

I installed the hitch on a 2005 Acura MDX. Was easy, and with another set of hands a breeze to install. The quality of the hitch is great, and my experience with other Draw-Tite hitches in the past has been terrific. This is the fourth hitch I have ordered from Etrailer, and each time has been a pleasure. Their selection, ease of website, and great customer service keeps me coming back. My next project is a 2012 CX7. I'll be in touch soon! Thanks Again, Frank D 53195

Frank, I have a 2006 MDX. Did you have to modify the bumper trim kit in any way for the receiver?

There is a under-vehicle fascia piece that has to be removed for the hitch to be installed. You do not have to cut or modify it though, so if you ever want to remove the hitch, it can be re-installed. Check out the video I linked to, the 2:20 mark or so.

Product is what I ordered. Arrived in a thrashed box, but was not destroyed. It does have chipped paint in a few places, scrapes on the bottom, and a fair amount of weld spatter that was painted over. Not terribly impressed right now, but I have not installed it yet. It did come with hardware and directions. 573260

The hitch receiver arrived early which allowed me to get an earlier start on the install. The fit was perfect and it came with everything I needed. I did have to spend a bit of time and effort cleaning out and re-threading the holes on the frame before mounting, but that was to be expected on a 13 year old SUV. 515524

Very high quality product, arrived in excellent condition. Very easy to install with the video online was helpful, I didn't lower the muffler as the instruction said. From the time to open the box and completed the installation is 33 mins, I did used the jack to support the center of the trailer hitch to make installation much easy for myself. Now it's look fantastic love black gloss and it's made in "USA", Etrailer, you guys "ROCK".... 51940

It's impossible to over emphasize how easy the installation was. I was prepared to lower the exhaust (as suggested in the video), but after eye-balling the hitch and where it needed to go, I just placed it on a hydraulic floor jack, slowly raised it and scooted it into position, then secured it into place. One person, forty minutes, and done. 715539

Bought and Installed the hitch one year ago for my 2004 Acura MDX. Easy to install if you watch the video and follow the instructions. Also a second person helps. The only issue I had was the threads on my vehicle. Make sure you clean the treads or run a tap to clean the threads. Run the tap! Product and company met all expectations and I would buy again. 670642

Great and solid! Delivery was SO FAST TOO. Dude at etrailer wrapped it up on a Sunday night!?!? I got a shipped email like 3 hrs after purchase! Bam! Very pleased to get it 2 days later especially with free shipping. Kudos to etrailer! A side note: the bolt holes on honda pilot on the passenger side were open from the factory, the driver side has a tow hook with bolts in it. The driver side was fairly easy to attach however the swelling of holes on the passenger side i had to gently TAP for threads to go. Just FYI may be a slight pain depending on year or condition of the frame on your vehicle. That being said over all i am very pleased with the seller and the installation and build of this hitch. Hope this is helpful. 663580

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Towing Capacity of 2005 Honda Pilot and Parts Needed to Tow Trailer
I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2005 Honda Pilot. It states that this vehicle, if equipped with a transmission cooler and power steering fluid cooler, has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds for a standard trailer. This limit is assuming that there are just two occupants in the vehicle (including the driver). For each additional occupant, the capacity actually goes down (4 occupants = 3,300 pound capacity, etc). I do recommend verifying this information in your...

It's a custom fit on your Pilot and I've attached an install video for you. You also need a ball mount, hitch pin, and hitch ball. • Above Ground Height of Curt Class III 13328 Trailer Receiver Hitch on 2004 Acura MDX
I don't have that exact measurement handy, but I was able to figure it out for you. The drop measurement (distance from the underside of the frame member to the top of the receiver tube) is right at 3 inches. This measurement on the Draw-Tite # 75599 is just a little bit less at 2-1/2 inches. This means that the inside top of the Curt # 13328 would sit at about 16-1/2 inches above the ground, versus 17 inches for the Draw-Tite. I've linked you to the install instructions for each hitch.

  • New Trailer Hitch Is Touching Exhaust On 2005 Acura MDX
There are a couple of ways you can fix the problem with the exhaust touching the new trailer hitch. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to eliminate the rattle caused by this problem. The first suggestion is to use a pair of channel locks or vise grips and bend the hanger attached to the exhaust. This should move the exhaust far enough away to stop the rattle. If that does not take care of the issue, you can replace the rubber hangers for the exhaust. Over time these...

  • Trailer Hitch Compatibility for Honda Pilot and Acura MDX
Aftermarket trailer hitch fits for the 2005 Acura MDX and the 2005 Honda Pilot are indeed the same. Either vehicle can be fitted with three different Class III hitches, part # 75599 from Draw-Tite, part # 13328 from Curt and part 87454 from Hidden Hitch. No drilling is required for installing any hitch on either vehicle. Since we do not sell the OEM hitch that was installed on the MDX I cannot guarantee that it will fit the Pilot but odds are pretty good that it will. Some vehicles'...

  • Recommended Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Honda Pilot
You are correct that Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch brands were sister companies, both part of Cequent Performance Products, and that their hitches # 75599 and 87454 are identical apart from their branding. Hidden Hitch is now discontinued. You are also correct that the Curt hitch option for your 2006 Pilot, part # 13328, does include an additional mounting flange at its center that is not used on the other hitches. In some cases this extra flange will require trimming of the rear fascia;...

  • Trailer Wiring and Hitch Recommendation for 2006 Honda Pilot
For your 2006 Honda Pilot our most popular and best hitch is the Draw Tite hitch part # 75599 which is a confirmed fit and would work well. I attached an install video for this as well. For trailer wiring you then would want the Tekonsha part # 118336 which I attached an install video for as well. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch...

  • What Vehicles Does the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75599 Fit
I was able to find that you purchased the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75599 for your 2004 Acura MDX. That hitch receiver will fit the following; 2001 - 2006 Acura MDX and 2003 - 2008 Honda Pilot. Keep in mind that trailer hitch receiver hardware is meant to only be torqued down to specs once. If you need replacement hardware you will just use part # RHK, select the manufacturer, and then insert your part number in the blank.

The Draw-Tite Hitch Class III 2 Inch Hitch # 75599 will fit a 2003 Acura MDX touring model. It fits all 2001 to 2006 Acura MDX models. This hitch has a towing weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. I am sending a link to the installation instructions on the Hidden Hitch. If you will be towing with this hitch you will also need the Draw-Tite Ball Mount, # 2923, and the Pin And Clip, # PC3. The recommended hitch ball would be the Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball,...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Acura MDX for Carrying Bike Rack
For your 2004 Acura MDX we have trailer hitch options but the Curt you mentioned is not a fit so I cannot recommend it for you. Instead you would want the Draw Tite hitch part # 75599 which is a 2 inch hitch. There are no 1-1/4 inch hitches available for your vehicle at this time. For a sleeve adapter that will adapt a 2 inch hitch to be a 1-1/4 inch hitch we have the # HT02.

  • What is Difference Between Curt and Draw Tite Trailer Hitch for 2005 Honda Pilot
Curt and Draw Tite are two different companies who make aftermarket hitches for vehicles like your 2005 Honda Pilot. Typically their hitches are somewhat similar but will have a few differences. For your vehicle the Curt part # 13328 installs a bit differently and costs a little bit less than the Draw Tite # 75599. It's also made in the USA too. The Curt states that some fascia trimming may be required to install the hitch wherease the Draw Tite does not have have that listed. For most...
