What Brake Actuator will Replace My Dexter Model LP75 Disc Brake Surge Actuator?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/18/2025

Question:

I have a boat trailer with the Dexter model LP75 disc brake surge actuator that the master cylinder has failed. I can not find a replacement master cylinder kit for this model. Do you have any suggestions or a suggested replacement actuator for the LP75?

Hello Chris,

Yes, it would be quite difficult to find a replacement master cylinder for your Dexter model LP75. The brake actuator was actually a Tie Down Engineering part that Dexter took over as Tie Down Engineering is no longer in business but from what I can tell is no longer made, sometimes you can find somewhere with some old stock.

For a replacement I would go with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX29FR. It is rated at 7,500 pounds, electric reverse lockout lets you back up which is pretty important at the boat ramp, and is for disc brakes. I attached am image of the mounting holes so you can compare them to your current set up.

What kind of boat do you have? I've got a Ranger in my garage that is ready for some warm weather! I do tournaments in the winter too, but the fishing has been really tough here in Missouri, I'm ready for spawning season =)

Hey Chris, how did the swap to the Dexter DX7.5L actuator go on your boat trailer? Did the mounting holes line up well with your old LP75 setup? Your update could make it easier for others replacing that same actuator.
