Recommended Disc Brakes, Actuator, and Lights for a 2005 Karavan Classic Boat Trailer

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/17/2025

Question:

I am working on a 2005 Karavan Classic. This is a disc surge brake system. Trailer has sat for 9 years. I am looking for new hubs, bearings, calipers, brake line to run from the actuator to the rear. Also the actuator reservoir was empty and rusty inside. I should plan on its replacement also. Current rotor diameter seems to be 9.75”, I have not pulled it off the hub yet. Trailer is for an 2005 Lund Fisherman 1800, trailer measures 18’ from the bow eye to the rear lights. I am also looking for an LED waterproof light kit. Greatly appreciate any help with correct parts.

Hey Anthony, thanks for all the information. To replace the hubs, I'll need to know the part numbers off of the bearings inside and your lug nut pattern. I do not have a database that shows me what part numbers are on trailers.

To replace your disc brake actuator, I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout item # DX29FR, which bolts to the top of a 3" wide coupler or the Replacement Inner Member for Dexter DX7.5L Actuator item # DX99FR if you already have a Legacy UFP brake actuator.

To replace your brake lines you'll want the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit item # 18SI-BLKIT. This kit is specifically designed for 18' single axle trailers and has everything you need to swap out your existing lines.

For a replacement lighting kit, I recommend the LED Combination Tail Light Kit for Trailers under 80" Wide item # TLL56RK. These submersible LED lights are 6-1/16" wide x 3-5/8" tall x 2-1/4" deep and come with a 25' wiring harness with a 4-way connection. The built in license plate bracket is corrosion resistant and all mounting hardware needed for installation is included.

What's the part number on your current disc brake actuator? You can add this and the bearing information along with any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.
