Can etrailer Bolt On Swivel Plate For Jacks Work On Round Tube Trailer Frame?

Updated 03/13/2026 | Published 03/09/2026

Question:

Can this product be used on a round tube trailer by drilling holes in the trailer tubing to mount the bracket? Thanks.

Hey Ed.

I'm struggling to see how you could modify the etrailer Bolt-On Swivel Mounting Plate for jacks # e52JR to work with your round tube frame. I guess it could be done but might not be the best fit. I think you'd have better luck using something like Pipe Mount Swivel Style Trailer Jack with Foot - Sidewind - 10" Travel - 2,000 lbs # DL22685 which comes with a mount that would be easier to shape to your round frame and weld it on.

Do you not have a hole in the middle of the tongue to mount a standard 3 bolt jack like # TJA-5000S-B ?

The trailer is from 1957 foot about hill aluminum boat of the same vintage. So no modern amenities. I can’t weld which odd why I’m looking for a bolt on solution

@EdG I also didn't think about it being aluminum. Well that's unfortunate, I'm not too sure what the best option is for that application. Maybe you can send in a pic to my email and I can see if there's another solution. [email protected]

@EdG, when I get home I’ll take a photo of my set up, and if I understand you correctly I do not think it would work. There are bolt on ones that use square U bolts. Swapping the square U bolts for a U bolt matching the diameter of your trailer frame is one option that might work, but that’s just a guess!

@Matt Yes, that could potentially work. You could find a round U-Bolt for something like etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ Footplate - Sidewind - Fixed Mount - 29-1/8" Lift - Zinc - 2.5K # MJSQ-2500B for instance.

I don't know the diameter of your round frame section, and without seeing the trailer, I might try something like this- weld some large angle to the bottom of the jack plate so it holds you round tube in a "cradle". Since the main stress on the plate is lifting the trailer, and the steel holding the round tube in a "cradle", how you mount the plate becomes less critical. You will need to be aware however, of galvanic corrosion if you have dissimilar materials, i.e. aluminum in direct contact with steel, steel bolts into aluminum etc.
