Video Transcript for etrailer Round Sidewind A-Frame Trailer Jack Review

Today we're going to take a look at, and also show you how to install the etrailer round A-frame trailer jack with the side wind handle with the 5,000 pound support capacity and 15 5/8 inch worth of travel. The part number is TJA-5000S-B. Here's what our jack's going to look like installed. This jack is a front winder, what they call a side wind style. It's going to offer us a 3,000 lifting capacity and a 5,000 pound static or a weight-bearing capacity, which is going to make it ideal for your small, medium, even some of the lighter, larger utility trailers. It'll work out really, really well. We've got a fully black epoxy coated finish, inner tube, and outer tube so not going to have to worry about the rust, not going to have to worry about the corrosion. The metal cap on top here allows us very, very easy access to get into our bearings, bushings, anything like that that we might need to change down the road.

This is one of the easiest maintenance jacks out there on the market right now. From the center point of our handle here to the end we're looking at eight inches. You want to be sure that you're going to have clearance all the way around. You're not going to be an overhang on a popup or something like that that's going to interfere there. From the front of the jack it's going to stick out a total of five inches. It's nice and contoured so we won't have to really worry about our hands slipping over it. With this design it works really, really smoothly.

There's very little effort involved to actually raise and lower it, which is nice. You'll notice here on the back we've got a grease zerk. That's going to make it very easy for us to lubricate the bearing that's going to sit right in underneath here. That's going to help to reduce any of the friction so we don't have metal on metal contact so it keeps it really working so smoothly and so nice. Again, very easy to grease that. If we ever want to grease any of the gears on top, which we really shouldn't need to, but if it ever starts to tighten up these two bolts are just going to pull out like we talked about that cap's going to come right off the top. From the top of our mounting location to the top of the jack here we're looking right at 15 inches.

Let's go ahead and fully extend our jack and see what kind of height it gives us. Here's our jack in it's fully extended position. It's going to give us a total of about 24 1/4 right up to the top of that mounting location, which is really going to help get this tongue up in the air. It gives you a lot of room to get it up there quite high even for those taller vehicles. I'm going to move the jack down to it's lowest position and get that measurement again. It looks like there we're going to be right at about eight and a half inches.

Another nice additional feature is the hole that's drilled all the through our inner tube, but this allows us to do is add on a caster wheel or a foot plate very similar to part number JF-1005H-Z, which is going to be a five inch foot plate that helps to spread that energy out over the ground. For installing our jack it's going to be a pretty straightforward process. We just need to ensure that our trailer is equipped just like this one with a hole that's at least two and a quarter inches in diameter. That's going to be the width of this outer tuber of the jack. The inner tube here is two inches just for reference. Our holes need to be spaced out about three inches. These can be down to about two and 7/8 and up to about three and a quarter just because of the mounting holes here. They're a little bit elongated, but most standard trailer couplers are going to have that pattern. We'll just drop the jack right down on top of it there. It doesn't come with hardware so you'll either use the existing hardware you have or minimum is going to be a 3/8 bolt with grade five rating. We're using a flat washer and a star washer on ours. We just want to get those started. We just snug those up and get them tightened down. We use our torque wrench and torque it. You just want to stay within the torque range of the hardware you're using. If you're using grade eight or grade five just stay within that range. At this point we'll be ready to crank the jack down and take the weight off those jack stands and get them removed. That's going to complete our look at the etrailer round A-frame trailer jack with the side wind handle. The part number is TJA-5000S-B.

Great product, all good, no troubles with the trailer jack. I have a Toyota Tundra crewmax and the way our horse trailer is set up it can only be put in one way, my tail gate comes down and the crank touches the tail gate, I opened up the crank to see if I could reverse the sides but you cant cause everything is to the one side, it should be reversible or made shorter. I also wish I would have spent the extra money on an electric one cause it takes a lot of cranks to put up and down. But the product is good, you don’t know til you get it and see what work. Thanks for me to put my input in. 473359

Worked well on our camper. The higher capacity was nice to have to lift the back of my truck when hooking or unhooking the weight distribution system. 645271

I've had this installed on my utility trailer for about a year now. It works great. I've had some pretty big loads in it and have had no issues raising and lowering it with this jack. 485999

Product is great. Exactly what I needed to replace the old original jack on my trailer. The only thing I would say is that if each roatation would lift or lower the jack a little quicker because it takes quite a few roatations to lift it all the way up or lower it all the way down. But that’s just my opinion for what I use it for.....there are definitely pros about having it the way it is! 554105

Easy fix! Replaced a worn out electric jack so I could sell my trailer. The weight and the side handle were requirements for me. I needed the handle out of the way for my propane bottles. Perfect. Used the foot from my old jack and I'm ready to go! About a 15 minute fix. 431599

No complaints. Does the job with no prob. Nice long travel. I appreciate the grease zerk. I didn't order a foot plate as I already had one. Bad move! The tube only accepts it's companion foot assy. ( male/female design) Had to pay another shipping charge. 528662

I received my coupler lock and new trailer jack, really fast. Its always a pleasure working with etrailer. Knowledgeable staff (Adam was great) and really fast service. Trailer jack fit as promised and works much better than what it had replaced. Thanks guys... 469759

This is a heavy duty front crank jack. I recently purchased a large trailer tongue box for a Big Tex 6x10 drop ramp trailer. The trailer has a top wind jack that now hits the box. I purchased this new front wind jack and it will bolt directly into the trailer mounts. The foot pad and pin will move from my old trailer jack to this one. The jack seems to be made of high quality and I am very pleased with it. 482608

Better than the similar Bully that I just previously ordered. This retracts up closer to the trailer than other Brands I have purchased. The gearing also remains without bind throughout the range of travel. Very low reduction takes awhile to get there but has great power. Now....if someone would invent a side wind jack that could rotate somewhere other than straight forward.....say 45 degrees....that would be awesome. 637077

The jack, which attaches to my trailer, fit perfectly, just as indicated in the video. It took me about 30 minutes to remove the old jack and replace it with the new one. One word of caution: to get at the nut under the yolk bar, a jointed socket attachment is needed because the nut is not aligned straight down for easy removal and installation. 703614

Well designed and built. Easy installatioin. Works great. The one criticism I have is not of the unit itself but of the lack of knowledge of the product by the employee I spoke with concerning the different weight ratings of the jacks they sell. I surmised that the only difference in weight ratings is due to the gear ratio of the hand cranking mechanism. She said "no" but when I installed and used the item it was obvious that it took much for cranking to get the same amount of lift than the item it replaced. Still happy with the jack tho. 556881

Do you have a question about this Trailer Jack?

  • Trailer Jack Recommendations for a 10,000 Pound A-Frame Trailer
  • A trailer jack only lifts part of the weight of the trailer and not the whole 10,000 pounds of your trailer. A 10K trailer would have a tongue weight of around 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. But the higher the capacity of the jack the easier it is for the jack to lift the weight and the longer it will last. A jack rated for 5,000 pounds such as # TJA-5000S-B is an option. You could add foot # JF-99 as well. I have linked a video review of the jack for you. If you'd prefer an electric jack...

I recommend the Round A-Frame Trailer Jack # TJA-5000S-B which is very similar to the square jack you referenced but its outer tube is round and has a 2-1/4" outer diameter; it also has a standard 3-hole mounting plate attached as you can see in the accompanying photo. This is a sidewind jack with 5,000 lb support capacity, 3,000 lb lift capacity,...

  • Will the etrailer.com Round A-Frame Trailer Jack Fit on a 2012 Keystone Outback 250RS
  • As long as the mounting points on the A-frame of your 2012 Keystone Outback 250RS are right at about 3 inches apart from each other, and the center hole does not have a diameter bigger than 2-1/4 inches, the etrailer.com Round A-Frame Trailer Jack, part # TJA-5000S-B, will fit perfectly, as it uses an industry standard mount. This jack has a lift capacity of 3,000 lbs and a support, or static, capacity of 5,000 lbs so you will want to keep that in mind when loading up your Outback....

  • Trailer Jack Recommendation for A-Frame Trailer with at Least 3,500 lb Capacity
  • The good news is that basically all A-frame trailer jacks install with the same bolt pattern so the etrailer.com jack part # TJA-5000S-B would fit and work well as a replacement. It has a 5,000 lb capacity as well so in that regard it would work really well too.

  • Recommendation for a A-frame Jack with a 2 inch Post Opening
  • We're glad your hitch worked out well! I took a look through our selection of trailer jacks, a 2-1/4 inch outside diameter of the jack's outer tube is pretty common. I did find a 1000 lb capacity sidewind jack that might be a good choice for you if the fully loaded tongue weight of your trailer is less than 1000 lbs. If this is the case, go with the Dutton-Lainson # DL22530.

  • Trailer Jack Replacement Recommendation for 2002 Bantam B19
  • I looked up your trailer and found that it's a standard A-frame trailer so for a jack the # TJA-5000S-B which is a very popular option would fit and work well. It's a sidewind trailer jack with a 5,000 lb capacity.

  • Can the 30-800 Trailer Jack Be Rotated 120 Degrees So Grease Zerk is Accessible
  • Assuming the spacing between the three mounting bolts is equal, you can rotate the jack. 120 degrees, but keep in mind that the toolbox could interfere with the crank. If you used a grease gun with a flexible nozzle like # 30-800, you'd be able to access the zerk fitting without rotating the jack.
