Question:
Hi there, I have a 1995 Honda Odyssey that has a 20inch 3rd brake light assembly, and it is out of commission. Assuming that I still get power which I will test, and the assembly is bad 30 years old and impossible to obtain, can I just connect power to the brake signal and ground and leave the turn signal wire disconnected? The plan would be to mount this light over the existing assembly with double sided tape. Glad I found this site, thank you for your help!

Hi Chris,
Yes, you can definitely use the Optronics # STL64RB as a third brake light on your 1995 Honda Odyssey, it’s a great choice The light has three wires: white for ground, black for tail/running lights (which you won’t need for this setup), and red for the brake/turn signal.
Since the Odyssey uses combined turn and brake signals, you’ll need the Pacer Performance Logic Module # 20-702 to isolate just the brake function. This little module is smart, it watches the left and right turn signal wires and only sends power to your third brake light when you press the brake pedal (not when you're using a turn signal).
To install everything, mount the # STL64RB high up, maybe above the rear window, using strong double-sided tape like 3M VHB. If you want to keep moisture out, a thin bead of clear silicone around the edges is a nice touch.
For wiring, connect the white wire from the light to a good ground point. Then connect the red wire to the green wire coming from the logic module (that’s the brake-only output). The yellow wires from the module go to the left and right turn/brake wires on your taillights. Once it’s all hooked up, your new third brake light will work just like it should, only lighting up when you brake.
Let me know how the install goes =)

Hello Kate, Thank you for the response. The STL64RB light assembly is listed as having three wires, not just two: White: ground Black: tail light Red: turn signal In my original question, I asked if the turn signal wire on the STL64RB (red) could merely be left disconnected. My original 3rd lamp has two wires, power and ground. Am I able to splice the white and black wires on the STL64RB to their equivalents leading to my original assembly without having to use the logic module?
