Recommended 7-Way Adapter for a Trailer that Has a 7-Way But Doesn't Have Brakes

Updated 06/05/2025 | Published 06/02/2025

Question:

I have a 4 way flat plug coming from my vehicle. I have a 7 blade-round connected to my Sunbird Mini-Camper. The trailer has no brakes and the only reason for the power source is to charge the battery on the camper while driving. Do you sell some kind connector/adpapter that can I can connect between the two soley to run the signal/stop/lights as I need nothing more? Thank you for your time.

Hey Creston. You're going to need the Buyers Products Trailer Connector Adapter item # 337TC1474P. This will plug directly into your 4-way connector. You'll just need to wire in the 12v and ground circuits for a power source to charge your battery. You'll need 12 Gauge Wire item # 12-1-1, which is sold by the foot. You will want to add a 40 Amp In-Line Circuit Breaker item # 9510 in the wire before connecting to the battery.

What's your tow vehicle?

@Creston You're welcome! That's awesome man. I used to have a TDI Jetta. I miss playing with that engine. What year is your Sportwagon?

@JerredH, It's a 2014. I had a 2013 I bought way back then and wrapped it around a tree. After a few leases in between, I decided I wanted that car again. After looking for a few months I found one in 2020 with around 40K! I love it.

@Creston Oh man that's a great find! That car will run forever so long as the rocker panels and floors don't rust off.
